Would anyone support another national lockdown?

Same as the last one. Schools, non essential shops, hospitality etc. stretching on for a few months. If yes, can I ask what are your personal circumstances?

According to the media this morning it’s on the cards anyway.

tmh88 · 14/10/2020 06:29

No definitely not! I’ve only just gone back to work 1 day a week! As in about 2 weeks ago! If lockdown happened again the business I work for would fully close down this time. Also I know nursery isn’t as much of a priority as school, but ds is an only child and he loves his day at nursery with other children.

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2020 06:38

Apparently only a small proportion of those who should isolate are doing so. If that is the case, surely that needs addressing as priority.

Remmy123 · 14/10/2020 06:42

Absolutely NOT!!!! It wouid break many many people

And it's too hard to get a test. So some people don't bother. And it takes too long to get the result. And there's not enough support for self-isolating. And the contact tracers aren't tracing enough contacts. And hardly anybody has been notified by the app. It's a complete farce.

Top six richest country' in the world.

Bottom six for coronavirus response.

VikingVolva · 14/10/2020 06:43

Well, now they've given it the catchy new name of circuit breaker, and the Opposition is in support, plus Mayor of London, plus one part of UK starting their version.

Of course we're being softened up for it.

Onceuponatimethen · 14/10/2020 06:44

Yes

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2020 06:57

IronLawOfGeometricProgression yes all excellent points

Coronavirus: Schools to close and tight new hospitality rules https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-54533643

Without a national lockdown we are going to see numbers rising as we did in March, April etc. The measures in place now will do nothing to stop that from happening imo.

JacobReesMogadishu · 14/10/2020 07:06

It didn’t work last time when we did it for longer so why would it work this time? I also think we’d get less compliance if it happened again.....a lot of people aren’t as scared as last time.

If it’s done it should be done properly like it was in China. Literally lock people in their homes with armed guards. Nobody allowed out for anything apart from police and health care staff. No exercise, no food shopping.

I’m not saying that I think that should or will happen but it’s the only way it might be effective. Obviously it wouldn’t happen here, so we’ll limp on for months instead with half arsed restrictions which do fuck all.

Rockybooboo · 14/10/2020 07:20

It's interesting to see the people who are supporting lockdown are avoiding the question about what situation they are personally.

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2020 07:23

That's my worry. I don't really know how I feel about a lockdown. If there is one I will comply, but I do wonder whatll happen next, never really opening up, just more measures and more uncertainty

IheartNiles · 14/10/2020 07:23

It was meant to be for 3 weeks last time and yet it went on for months with schools not restarting for almost 6 months.

IheartNiles · 14/10/2020 07:26

They’re those able to work from home or stay at home mothers or those fearful for their health. The same people all over this website are agitating for constant lockdown.

The virologist in the hospital where I work told me he felt this was going to drag on until 2023. Well all be dead of poverty related causes by then.

I will tell you.

Lost my job in January / February time

Wrote my car off next morning.

Been living off UC since savings ran out.

Went from 9 stone to 7 stone as it was next to impossible to buy enough food after paying rent.

Aside from pharmacy (monthly) I have only left the house four times since July.

Not shielding or anything like that, just no money and no way of getting anywhere or had any replies to my many job applications.

Being jobless is awful but it doesn't stop me thinking that a

Cocothefirst · 14/10/2020 07:29

I don't support another lockdown and I'm working from home until the new year.

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 07:31

I saw that just now on TV.

Thing is some people will blame everyone in Liverpool for the behaviour of these few idiots.

CrunchyNutNC · 14/10/2020 07:34

If your local hospital was full and wasn't accepting more patients in A&E, and your next nearest hospital was also unable to help someone having a heart attack or stroke - what then?

People still don't grasp that it's not covid or the economy, the two are inextricably linked. Ok so you work in a shop or restaurant - after the last lockdown virus levels were very low, people felt confident about being out and about, and things felt fairly normal. However if the news headlines are about hospitals being full, high death figures, temporary morgues etc - enough people won't fancy going out for a meal or shopping trip to make it worth opening up.

CrunchyNutNC · 14/10/2020 07:36

or those fearful for their health

How dare people be fearful for their health eh Hmm

user1487194234 · 14/10/2020 07:37

Definitely not
It would devastate the economy
I want my DC in school

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 07:40

Also it DID work last time. The purpose was to reduce the r rate, reduce deaths etc. That’s how we came out of the other side of the bell curve. Now we are climbing back up again.

It did work last time though, virus levels were got down sufficiently that we had a bit of respite before the winter.

People aren't scared enough now, but if they keep going as they are for another month goodness knows what state we'll be in. Maybe that's what the government are waiting for - they need things to be bad enough to scare people before they can have a major lockdown.

Hyperfish101 · 14/10/2020 07:42

I have to add, whilst I feel a shirt sharp lockdown would help. It must be time constrained and that timescale stuck to.

Badbanana · 14/10/2020 07:43

Yes I would support it.

We would be financially worse off and I really want my dc to stay in school.

But I can see that it is needed.

I can always earn more money later on, there will always be some way to cope (though it may be unpalatable).

I have emigrated from countries where there is real hardship, so I’ve made sure my dc are resilient and understand to be grateful for what they have.

Not roll around in a pit of depression because they are under a safe roof, with at least some form of food and water available, having to stay in for a bit.

Mental health is important, but all those acting as if this ‘lockdown’ where we could leave our houses, didn’t have guns pointed at us or were being bombed is the worst kind of hardship are being silly.
