@rogueantimatter

I went for my first session today and found the swab test for covid much less onerous than I thought it would be. The nurse supervised self-administration of it. Even so I'm now worrying I didn't do it properly- I had only a very slight gag and tickle doing the throat one. But I do like to worry. Grin

2 nurses and a doctor had a go at getting blood before the doctor who did the examination and forms came in and managed it. She's an anaesthetist apparently.

The priority post box for posting the test was at a sub post office near me, but the guy refused to take it so I went to one in a WH Smith shop and deposited as discreetly as possible.

I'm glad i did not have to self swab. I've not had tonsills since I was 5, I would have nothing to aim for. I hated the throat swab though.

Anaethetiets are the best. They put in the hardest to place cannulas sobtaking blood is really easy for them. It took my nurse 3 attempts but my veins are small, so it's not really her fault.

@Torvean32

I never got an email about that. I did get the October vaccine registry letter. Did anybody else get that?
I think it was just from our test site. @Frazzled2207 and I are at the same one.
Torvean32 · 26/10/2020 22:16

Thanks @Frazzled2207, it's good to know though. Hopefully it's the same every where.

Torvean32 · 26/10/2020 22:16

Sorry wrong person Thank you @andadietcoke

Cooroo · 26/10/2020 23:04

I've killed my free thermometer. I washed it and water got in and killed the battery. Oops.

Torvean32 · 26/10/2020 23:29

Im sure they'd replace the thermometer. They offered me a spare phone when I had problems with the app.

I just saw this video. It's on the Oxford vaccine, but it's really interesting.

If you didn't get the email, or if you did what do you think of the statistics? I thought there would have been mire volunteers in the 18-39 group. They desperately need more volunteers from BAME backgrounds.

Postal covid test came back 46 hours after I posted it. Greater Glasgow area.

I don't think you can volunteer if you are or are planning to get pregnant within a year so I wonder if that's part of the reason why there aren't as many as you'd expect in that age group
Torvean32 · 28/10/2020 15:14

Good point @hthhthhth I hadn't thought of that.

pennee · 28/10/2020 17:57

I’m booked in to have mine next week if I pass the health screening. Fingers crossed I do!

ArianaVenti · 28/10/2020 19:00

I haven't rtft so i may have missed it but how did everyone get onto the trial? I'd love to but have signed up both on the zoe app and also the nhs website but never been contacted Sad

CoffeeandCroissant · 28/10/2020 19:13

@ArianaVenti

I am not on it either but apparently they recruited for the trial via the NHS Covid-19 vaccine research registry.

They are recruiting more people according to the info in the link below so they are likely to contact more people on it.

"Novavax expands late-stage UK trial for COVID-19 vaccine candidate to 15,000 volunteers."

"So far the firm has enrolled 5,500 participants to date and expects to complete the recruitment by the end of November."

ArianaVenti · 28/10/2020 19:38

Thanks @CoffeeandCroissant i guess maybe I could still be contacted then.

pennee · 28/10/2020 19:41

It was a big media campaign here in North Wales yesterday. They are moving very quick to get everyone in and started around here

mollypuss1 · 28/10/2020 20:02

@coffeeandcroissant @arianaventi I’m not on the Covid-19 vaccine research registry and never have been.

There was an article in my local paper saying they were looking for volunteers and I sent an email to the doctor in charge of the trials in my area. Received an email back after a couple of days asking me to go in for the screening and vaccine.

Frazzled2207 · 28/10/2020 21:01

@ArianaVenti
I did the same as you think it depends where you are as novavax trial is run specifically from 20 or so hospitals and for obvious reasons they at least initially try and recruit locally.
I was contacted but MiL who is not near any of them was not.
You are more likely to be contacted if you’re BAME I reckon but I am 42 and white!

Hi, yes definitely that one. The BBC quoted it too. (I just got worried and double checked 😆)

BG2015 · 28/10/2020 22:05

I filled something in via the Zoe app and then I was emailed some info about 2 weeks ago.

My parents ( in their 70's) also want to do it but haven't been contacted. I think I read somewhere the elderly will be recruited at a later date.

There was no one there at my appointment over 60.

mollypuss1 · 28/10/2020 22:51

@BG2015 I was the only one at my appointment under 60 Grin

Frazzled2207 · 28/10/2020 23:50

@BG2015
I also read that older people were definitely involved - max age is 84 I think - but not in this first “batch” .

I was registered with the NHS vaccines research. I then got contacted by a firm that were supposed to recruit volunteers.
I saw it had been advertised on the radio and social media. So i contacted them by email.
I'm lucky I did that as the recruiting firm had not passed on any details.

I got an email from the study today saying they had finally recruited 450. Almost 1800 had applied.

At my first appt there was a man there who looked late 70s. There was an equal amount of men/women and all were white. Our area does not have a large percentage of BAME, so I hope other areas get a better percentage.

Good luck to those just starting or waiting to hear.

Daftapath · 29/10/2020 00:41

Great to find this thread. I have my first appointment early next week for the first injection, assuming I pass the health check. I'm in London. Interesting that so many of you have been given different instructions.
