Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

Thanks.
My main concern is that the use of them in students is now to avoid isolating known contacts, which seems much less likely to keep anyone safe. But what do I know?! 🤷‍♀️

AVictoryProduct · 03/01/2021 20:09

@ramblingsonthego

Yes mine were all negative, relived but also part of me was hoping maybe that was it and I would have some immunity for some months.
I can understand that, I was conflicted too, although my OH apparently only had natural immunity for a short time after a positive antibody test in October and a positive PCR test for live virus last week.

Strange times. I don't understand any of it anymore and no amount of reading on the internet helps!

@ramblingsonthego and @AVictoryProduct
Pleased you're feeling better

@pennee
did you find out yet? Agree it's a bit harsh that you can only know 48 hours in advance, that makes it hard for someone to grab your spot doesn't it - though that's not your fault. Must be exciting to find out anyway.

Hi. Not found out yet. Maybe Tuesday they will contact me? Will post the outcome!

NotMrsTumble · 05/01/2021 09:01

Also interested to know how the unblinding goes for you @pennee. I'm booked for a vaccine on the 11th, I could have booked earlier, but wanted to give the trial team time to unblind and then time for me to cancel and someone else to book... If I'd realised it was a straight "48 hours before", I'd have booked an appointment for this week (there were loads available at the time - big city, large healthcare workers vaccine clinic). I emailed them as per instructions as soon as I had a confirmed appointment, but nothing yet. I'm assuming they're also snowed under, as the slots were released as we went into New Year holidays, and I suspect lots of the participants will also be healthcare and have been invited for the pfizer/Oxford vaccine too.

pennee · 05/01/2021 16:47

I spoke to the trials team today and the doctor is phoning me tomorrow with the unblinding. Apparently they have quite a list to contact!

respectthebanana · 05/01/2021 19:33

Has anyone else on the trial (specifically Belfast) received a cheque from the Health Care trust for travel expenses? I've received one today completely unexpectedly and the only thing I can think it could possibly be is for the trial (although does say 2 visits when I've been there 3 times total so maybe nothing to do with it).

BG2015 · 05/01/2021 20:40

I've had travel expenses from all my visits now. I wasn't going to claim but the staff encouraged me to!

Daftapath · 05/01/2021 21:03

That reminded me to check and I haven't had any of my expenses yet. Mine were to he paid straight into my account, rather than by check (not Belfast)

respectthebanana · 05/01/2021 22:11

No one ever mentioned expenses to me! Nice surprise tho.

ramblingsonthego · 06/01/2021 05:27

We can claim petrol, taxi, bus fare etc...... I haven't bothered with petrol as its a mile to the hospital down a dual carriageway. They do give us a free parking ticket though which I do take otherwise each visit would cost me £3.

BG2015 · 06/01/2021 06:42

Mine went straight into my bank £10 for each visit Smile

pennee · 06/01/2021 12:31

My results are in....I had the real vaccine 😁
I still continue to go to trial appointments for bloods etc and to be monitored that way. So chuffed I did this now.

MrsHamlet · 06/01/2021 12:45

That's really exciting! Congratulations.

BG2015 · 06/01/2021 12:49

Wow that's amazing! When did you have the second dose? Did you have any reaction?

Daftapath · 06/01/2021 13:03

@pennee that is brilliant! So remind us of any side effects you had from the injections.

Im assuming that means you do t need any other vaccine?

Angeliana · 06/01/2021 13:14

Such an interesting thread, thank you all so much Flowers

Oh I was ill after the second one 🤣
Hot and cold chills, stomach pains and then I was sick for a few hours. Also painful arms and the biggest annoying thing was swollen and painful armpit glands after both injections.

The advice is not to have another vaccine now until a booster is needed so I have cancelled my appointment tomorrow.

Daftapath · 06/01/2021 13:31

After the second jab, did you get the pain in the site of the first jab too - so two painful arms?

pennee · 06/01/2021 13:35

Only slightly, it was more a pain in the glands under both arms.
pennee · 06/01/2021 13:39

I had my second dose November 30th.
BG2015 · 06/01/2021 16:11

So pleased for you and glad you can continue in the trial. You must feel so relieved.

Frazzled2207 · 06/01/2021 16:52

Brilliant news. Hopefully we'll get info in the next few weeks as to whether or not the stuff actually works though I believe everyone is optimistic. I had no side effects of any description so suspect I got the placebo.

Woo hoo! Thanks for letting us know and you are right to be chuffed!
pennee · 07/01/2021 16:59

Ooo OUR vaccine just been mentioned on BBC news as coming online soon. 🤞
And yes I’m calling it OURS as us guinea pigs made this happen 😁
