Have they mentioned picking up more info on transmission being indoors and not outdoors in UK cases?

Flaxmeadow · 12/10/2020 16:18

Sounds like Liverpool agreed to govt proposals but other areas are still negotiating, maybe not in agreement with e.g. being in tier 3 and closing bars etc and / or wanting more financial support

Thanks bigchoc. Yes that's what I thought too

Local papers/media on social media for Grt Man and West Yorkshire are already reporting they are in tier 2 Hmm

SistemaAddict · 12/10/2020 16:18

Well those restrictions are going to work wonderfully in Greater Manchester where rates have been rapidly rising since September and have jumped significantly this last week under stricter conditions Hmm
It's going to be reviewed in 4 weeks is that right? Will they review it earlier if things change significantly before then?

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2020 16:19

So restrictions are being loosened in high rate areas?

Feels the opposite of simplified

SistemaAddict · 12/10/2020 16:20

Ah, cross post. The media are evidently ahead of themselves although a GM
MP tweeted that Matt Hancock had said GM was tier 2. I'd say I'd wait for Boris later but I'm likely to be even mire confused by his bumbling mumbling one man muppet show

QueenOllie · 12/10/2020 16:21

@MarshaBradyo yep. Preston is already under local restrictions and so are some of Manchester I think. Seems they're now saying not confirmed tier 2 Confused and still discussing? But media reporting tier 2, and I know lancs and GM were fighting not to be tier 3

NoGoodPunsLeft · 12/10/2020 16:21

Is anyone else surprised by Nottingham apparently being tied 2?

PrayingandHoping · 12/10/2020 16:21

I suspect when they drew up the restrictions they expected the likes of GM to be tier 3.... and they have caved to local politicians pleas.

It's ridiculous those areas are having things relaxed

PrayingandHoping · 12/10/2020 16:22

Andy burnham said before Boris announcement GM were tier 2

PrayingandHoping · 12/10/2020 16:23

@NoGoodPunsLeft

Is anyone else surprised by Nottingham apparently being tied 2?
Local politicians are insisting that it's purely student issue
SistemaAddict · 12/10/2020 16:23

Coronavirus LIVE UK updates as Greater Manchester put in 'Tier 2' lockdown - avoiding toughest new rules www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/coronavirus-live-uk-updates-tough-19087229

"Greater Manchester will reportedly be placed in the second category - Tier 2 - a Greater Manchester MP has tweeted after a Zoom call with Matt Hancock. "

RedToothBrush · 12/10/2020 16:24

What do you think the chances of this lasting as it is by the end of the week?

Complete shitshow.

RedToothBrush · 12/10/2020 16:25

@NoGoodPunsLeft

Is anyone else surprised by Nottingham apparently being tied 2?
Not with the numbers its got.
PrayingandHoping · 12/10/2020 16:26

@BigChocFrenzy

UK today (yesterday, then previous days are in brackets)

Cases 13,972 (12,872, 15,166, 13,864)
Deaths 65 ... (65, 81, 87)

Today's deaths are 50
NotN0wBernard · 12/10/2020 16:26

Hi, I've lurked here since the beginning. When Barracker's amazing volcano charts helped us make sense of the daily case reporting. Since then I've found this a haven of objectivity and measured discussion.

I'm also in favour of splitting the thread so that those who want to discuss the data regarding schools (or lack thereof) have their own space to explore their views. And i say that as a mother of two school children. Right now I struggle to keep up with the volume of posts as the arguments made are circular.

CallmeFP · 12/10/2020 16:26

Will London he put into Tier 2 as asserted by newspapers this morning?

ScaramoucheFandango · 12/10/2020 16:27

Knowsley isn't students.
Maybe that was the thinking: where the high numbers are considered to include a significant student "bulge" you escape tier 3.

Frazzled2207 · 12/10/2020 16:27

not yet apparently

SheepandCow · 12/10/2020 16:31

@RedToothBrush

MP askes why Halton is in Tier 3 with a number of lower cases than other places which are not. Johnson doesn't answer the question.

I'm baffled.

Totally baffled.

The whole thing is a nonsense.

We need a coherent joined up national approach. Local input, yes, but the approach should be a national one.

SheepandCow · 12/10/2020 16:33

Wondering if anyone's got any data on the flu jab take-up so far?

Frazzled2207 · 12/10/2020 16:33

ooh there is a new chart on the dashboard

Daily change in reported cases by specimen date

I've seen these on twitter but useful to have here as well. Only on the nation numbers though.

cathyandclare · 12/10/2020 16:37

Looking at the numbers in and around the student areas in Leeds, the numbers have gone down a bit. Not enough to change colour, but they are a little lower.

Too early to draw conclusions. It could be testing changes, Uni mandated lockdown restrictions, or hopefully it may be starting to naturally tail off in that population.

Baaaahhhhh · 12/10/2020 16:37

Disagree. Local decisions should be made locally, within a government framework. Local accountability. Same with schools (gulp).

Hmmph · 12/10/2020 16:38

So ridiculously confusing!

It should be clear and objective, not MPs and councils bargaining.

It should be x cases per 100,000 per council for a 7 day period, tier 2 and x for level 3. In level 1, restrictions mean xyz etc. 7 days in the tier up or down you change. Weekly list of tiers by council will be announced on Friday at 6pm. NHS app will also give you the tier of restrictions and details.

Why are they making it so hard, so subjective and so political!

Be like this thread and use data and analysis!

EducatingArti · 12/10/2020 16:39

Does anyone know the specifics of tier 3? Have they been published anywhere yet?
Do they still permit support bubbles?
