5p says over 20k (if I commit myself, sod's law will mean it stays lower, which will be great!)

BigChocFrenzy · 10/10/2020 18:25

I wouldn't be surprised by 10k or 20k

  • and remember it's Saturday
So the person that fixes the Excel rubber band when it breaks probably has to be called in from home

I have to cook supper now, so I hope we have good / any news later when I return

@MRex Do you mean lost behind the sofa?

Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2020 18:28

I am going for 18732.

No point in being vague!

wintertravel1980 · 10/10/2020 18:29

There will be a lot of people who are tested regularly (especially in Pillar 1 - care home workers, health care professionals).

There are also "worried well" who regularly get tested in Pillar 2 (I know someone who got tested four times).

Based on the info MRex has found, up until now only the first test counted and all the new negative cases were "zeroed out", i.e. individuals tested more than once did not count as "new people tested".

16666 with 66 deaths and 666 hospital admissions which has freaked out phe so much they've pissed off down the pub while they still can?

Witchend · 10/10/2020 18:30

Let's be fair. They did some updating of the website last night, so maybe just taking a bit longer than normal

And someone is listening to Iron Maiden, got sucked in and forgot to push the Update button

It's a bit like watching Eurovision, but less weird outfits. (Presumably. Less that I can see anyway!)

MarcelineMissouri · 10/10/2020 18:35

My guess is in the region of 17,000

littleowl1 · 10/10/2020 18:42

I wish there was an emoji for laughing with tears rolling down my face.

Priceless. Can't stop laughing. You guys crack me up.

Maybe Boris could ask Graham Norton to do a daily announcement.

Or....maybe not.

Another for the fun part until we wait:

"More than 250 prisoners are self-isolating"

ancientgran · 10/10/2020 18:45

I'd love to see the reasoning why "Learning Disability and or Autism" made it into the list.

Anecdata, but just occurred to me that there was an death of a younger adult with LD fairly early in March; that might have meant this flagged it because I seem to recall deaths had only been older adults until then.

I thought it was because a proportion of people with learning disabilities or autism will be in care homes, I don't know what the proportion is and obviously lots of people with Ld or ASD will living independently but the ones in care homes will be seen as a vulnerable group. The care home where I work has people with both conditions.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/10/2020 18:46

This is a really interesting article about cases in the NE and students.

Near the end it also describes the ways in which the positive tests have been collected re if home address or uni address, which was interesting.

It looks as if Newcastle do know the difference between uni and general community cases, and that measures brought in on the 18th sept are working, apparently.

ohthegoats · 10/10/2020 18:46

Interesting that now it's considered a vascular disease, that things like factor V leiden or other blood issues aren't on the list.

DH and I were laughing hard at this BlushGrin
Augustbreeze · 10/10/2020 18:52

So do we know that the "underlying conditions" aren't simply every single one upon which data is collected centrally by the NHS? Or would that be ridiculous numbers?

Beebityboo · 10/10/2020 18:55

I have a blood clotting disorder but when I spoke to my Doctor he has said that it doesn't make me any more at risk of Coronavirus than anyone else. Now it is being considered a vascular disease I just don't see how this can be true. It's really frightening not being able to figure out my true risk especially when it comes to future shielding etc. At the moment I'm being as cautious as I can be with having DC's in school.
SpookyNoise · 10/10/2020 18:56

I wonder when we’ll get today’s figures.

Flaxmeadow · 10/10/2020 19:03

Nervous about the numbers being late today. I do wonder if they are so high that they needed to be checked. Hope not but can't help thinking they are going to be steep

wintertravel1980 · 10/10/2020 19:03

Daily hospital admissions for England are out.

513 new admissions reported today vs 491 yesterday vs 524 the day before. The primary driver of the increase is the North West.

Surprisingly, South West has gone up to 35 (from 21 yesterday). Hopefully, it is a one off blip.

We live in Gateshead and on the Argis map the darkest blue bit is the centre of town where there aren't many residential properties but there is a huge Northumbria uni hall.... I'm guessing lots are their. On a similar point my kids swim at Northumbria Uni Pool and the campus is totally dead so contrary to popular belief the students seem to be isolating properly. Also on that note I am getting a bit sick of all the 'Geordies Still Partying' headlines. Town is sooo quiet, I suspect they just find a few people who fit the stereotype and photograph them!

Reastie · 10/10/2020 19:06

It’s usually bad news when it’s late isn’t it. It makes me itchy. Yesterday it went down so I’m guessing it’s going to make up for it today.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 10/10/2020 19:06
