Why have the posts at the end of the last thread been hidden so mnhq can look at them?

GetAMoveOnTroodon · 09/10/2020 08:20

They’ve been deleted as they contained links to a pro-Russian far right conspiracy site

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/10/2020 08:26

Wow

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:26

The bbc has this as a slide showing transmission. I was initially suprised supermarkets were so high relatively (we dont go in them.)

There is a notable absence of schools and unis on the list...

@alreadytaken having had CFS 20 years.... medical attitude towards has significantly improved in the last 7 years or so. In fact I was almost shocked with how well I was treated with it throughout my pregnancy and labour last year!!! They took it v seriously and it was always at the top of the list to be mentioned at hand overs!!

Things are changing I think.... and what is going on now is only going to help the cause.

Whether they can do anything more in terms of research and possibly treatment we shall see. There has been a research team at UCL for years (I was in contact about joining it at one point). I'm sure extra resources would be excellent. I have always understood it not to be at the top of research funding, and rightly so compared to cancer research etc. But what is going on now may change opinion.

Thanks @GetAMoveOnTroodon, it looks like this relates to adults with new onset diabetes too: www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMc2018688.

whenwillthemadnessend · 09/10/2020 08:31

Place mark. Thanks .

MRex · 09/10/2020 08:36

@PrayingandHoping - it's always seemed a little odd to me that there is so much persistence to the idea that there is a large psychological component in chronic fatigue when it's been known for decades that inflammation markers can be seen in blood tests for chronic fatigue and polymyalgia, with hormone changes also for polymyalgia and reduced anti-oxidants for chronic fatigue.

whenwillthemadnessend · 09/10/2020 08:39

Pineapple. Please could you link that slide if possible. It's hard to read. As very blurry.

Frazzled2207 · 09/10/2020 08:41

@PineappleUpsideDownCake
That list is not where people got the virus. I think it’s something like the places that two or more people went where they were exposed to it, not necessarily where they caught it.
There are other charts on this week’s surveillance report that show clearly that education and workplaces are by far the most likely places to catch it. Hospitality only actually accounts for single figure percentages Overall.

PrayingandHoping · 09/10/2020 08:45

@MRex my theory behind why people think that is because the only way to help yourself with CFS is to learnt to "manage it". (Nhs current "treatment" is anti depressants, exercise and cbt 🙄) Therefore people believe is psychological.... whereas actually is we just learn how we feel and what we can do. Very good at putting on a front in public and royally crashing at home!!

I happened to know a GP in my new surgery through my work and when I saw her in surgery and she saw my notes she was shocked I had CFS! She is great and totally took it on but said I managed it so well on the outside people would never know. Which they wouldn't.... when you've had it this long you won't see me out and about if I'm not in a coping moment.

I feel for all these people how will suffer after this. It can't be taken lightly. It will complete alter their life's path and direction.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:45

Apologies, it read okay on my phone!

I dont know how to link directly to the slide. Its about 2/3 down this article.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:46

Frazzled it states it shows the settings where people were exposed to the virus.

I very much suspected unis and school were intentionally left off for those reasons.

ceeveebee · 09/10/2020 08:47

Here’s the slide but as pp say, it’s not a list of transmission, merely a list of where people have been in the days leading up to diagnosis. And specifically excluded educational settings and workplaces as they have no intention of closing them.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:48

They've stated as much at the top of the slide, that the government was committed to keeping schools open. It would have been useful for them to include it though..

I presume its what is being used to justify potentially closing down hospitality venues etc with potential new rules Monday.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:49

Ceevee. Sorry crosspost. Thankyou.

IloveJKRowling · 09/10/2020 08:51

There are other charts on this week’s surveillance report that show clearly that education and workplaces are by far the most likely places to catch it. Hospitality only actually accounts for single figure percentages Overall.

Of course the difference between hospitality and education is that the former have strict SD / mask wearing rules and the latter have virtually none.

I'm afraid it increasingly looks like a national policy of head in the sand over educational settings. So irresponsible toward ECV teachers, children and parents.

Baaaahhhhh · 09/10/2020 08:52

DH had Lyme two years ago. His symptoms lasted a year and he had exactly the same list as for long Covid, minus chest issues obvs. It still remains contentious that long Lyme exists, and there is no support for it.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/10/2020 08:52

Ilove my thoughts exactly. It's baffling.

IloveJKRowling · 09/10/2020 08:52

I presume its what is being used to justify potentially closing down hospitality venues etc with potential new rules Monday.

I don't understand what good they think this will do if hospitality only account for single figure percentages relative to educational settings and workplaces? It will destroy businesses without actually doing much about breaking transmission chains.

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/10/2020 08:56

Early in sept when cases in the NE were rising, Newcastle city council said that the majority of transmission was in hospitality.

Which is why the restrictions they brought in stopped anyone from different households mixing anywhere, including pubs and restaurants.

whenwillthemadnessend · 09/10/2020 08:56

Thanks for the repost

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/10/2020 08:57

So that rule could be brought in country wise, it's just that actually some local pubs have had to close already as that's still been very damaging for business.

whenwillthemadnessend · 09/10/2020 08:57

What's the difference between home and household?

whatsnext2 · 09/10/2020 08:58

There is a letter in Times today, which for some reason I can’t link to, sorry, about a research study investigating Vitamin D at Barts Hospital, with email address for further information and volunteers.
