People STILL not wearing masks on London buses

579 replies

I had to take a journey by bus earlier. There were about 10 people on the bus, three of whom were not wearing masks. Drivers need to stop letting people on without masks - these selfish passengers are putting everyone else’s lives at risk! Sad

@ArcheryAnnie thanks for that. I'm not a hysterical person in fact I'm usually very gung ho about health things. Good germs and all that. And I've never had the flu before.

But this is a very serious disease, and surprisingly contagious. I have seen that first hand and while some people I know that have had it appear to be fine now for others it's life changing. Every family I know is not having a normal Christmas this year and I know people that haven't seen their parents for months.

This is a time to do everything you possibly can. Not to scream at others to assert your right to break the rules. If I was exempt and couldn't wear a mask you wouldn't get me on public transport or in a shop for love nor money. I would do anything and I do mean anything to avoid that. Not wearing a mask isn't a lovely freedom. A perk. It's risking your life and that of others. If you can't you look at ways you can, for example trauma therapy for rape victims especially emdr which will stop the fear of having your face covered. I don't understand the idea that some people so desperately want the right to go out into crowded environments in a global pandemic with a highly contagious possibly fatal disease without protecting themselves or others.

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 10:55

Honestly I think most people will get through this much easier if they worry less about something you can’t control, ie what other people do.

I had two months of being bedbound, and two more months of being mostly bedbound, due to this bastard disease. I still have days when i cannot do much, and nights when the long-term effects make me so uncomfortable I can't sleep. Being blithe and unconcerned about what other people do or don't do will not help anyone get through this "easier". People following the rules, and encouraging others to follow the rules, and not minimising the risks of this disease, and therefore helping to limit who gets it, will help people get through it "easier".

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 11:03

@MadameBlobby And I am not fighting tooth and nail not to wear them. I wear them in every circumstance I am asked to. But no, that’s not enough for some on here, you’ve got to not only wear them but love doing so as well or else you’re selfish or complicit in the murder of grannies.

Now this is hysterical. No one has to love anything don't be so ridiculous. At no point has anyone ever said that and frankly you're just being nasty now. If you don't understand 'fatal global pandemic' then good for you.

I don't actually give a fuck because I don't catch public transport, I avoid the kinds of shit holes (they all wear them in m and a and Waitrose) that are full of people not wearing masks and the only places I want to go (pubs and restaurants) are ultra careful.

So I could be totally 'let them eat cake' about this but there's a part of me that feels so desperately sorry for the poor people who have no choice. And they are the ones who are most likely to be repeatedly exposed to those not wearing masks.

My business was not at all affected by it. In fact we did well. I can work at home and I have a garden. I have a Covid friend for lockdown (we had lovely weekends). I have Ocado, amazon fresh, and all the supermarkets plus deliveroo for groceries (the only way I'm going near a fucking Aldi).

So no, not working myself into a frenzy. But I'm conscious of my good fortune and equally conscious that others aren't so fortunate. The consequences of a few weeks off work or a few months feeling dreadful aren't as easy as they are for me.

MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 11:12

There have most certainly been plenty of posts on here where posters have said they wear masks but don’t like them and have been told they are selfish. Not my fault if you haven’t seen them.

Honestly I have enough to worry about without whether people are wearing masks or not. There’s nothing I can do about it if they aren’t. I wear one and follow all the rules. That’s all I can do.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 18:19

Equally I can't read every post. Perhaps you can show me one where someone says they wear a mask and are called selfish. Cause that sounds a little suspect to me.

FreshFreesias · 06/10/2020 18:23

How do you know they don’t have exemptions?
Stop policing strangers.

Pluckedpencil · 06/10/2020 19:07

I have zero sympathy with the special snowflakes who don't wear masks. Here in Italy, the rule is "wear a fucking mask or stay at home". And guess what? Everyone wears a fucking mask, even the six year olds. Get over yourselves and wear one. Asthma is a shit excuse, past trauma is a shit excuse. In real life, most people think you are being a selfish piece of shit, and they're right.

SheepandCow · 06/10/2020 19:15

@Pluckedpencil
I love Italy. Beautiful country, nice people, good food.

I'm mask shopping again. I love the shark one so I'll post another pic.

"Here in Italy, the rule is "wear a fucking mask or stay at home".

Italy has exemptions for those people who have a disability that makes it impossible for them to wear a mask.

@HeresMe
Please don't drag rape victims or disabled people into this. The vast majority of disabled people are more in support of masks than against. Millions are extra vulnerable to Covid. And plenty of rape victims are extremely traumatised by the lack of mask wearing - because of being unwillingly exposed to danger.
Rape victims and those disabled unable to wear a mask are a tiny minority.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 19:52

I deal with Italy and deal with the regions it originally started in (brought back by Chinese residents in the rag trade visiting home). They have gone from absolutely on their knees with it to being a country you dont have to quarantine from.

In fact the U.K. IS a country you have to self isolate from in Denmark. Because we are full of fuckwits.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 19:52

@SheepandCow that was an actual laugh out loud moment. 😁 Be fun wearing it on the tube though.

SheepandCow · 06/10/2020 19:55
Grin I'm soooo tempted to buy it.
HeresMe · 06/10/2020 19:56

@SheepandCow

What you mean don't drag them into it, anyone who says there shouldn't be exemptions are dragging people in to it, noticed you question my post rather than the one calling such people prices of shit.

SheepandCow · 06/10/2020 20:06

Fair enough. You're right @HeresMe
No-one should be calling anyone a piece of shit.

That said, I don't think she was aiming it at the tiny number of genuine exemptions. Could just be my interpretation but I read her post as exasperation with people who can but won't wear masks - and that is the majority of non mask wearers. Either that, or the UK has a bizarre and very worryingly high number of people with issues that everywhere else in the world is a very very small minority.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 20:11

Oh my god I am so sick of you people. For FUCKS sake NO ONE ever called people who have actual, real, factual reasons for not wear masks 'pieces of shit'. You and those like you are fucking crazy. Insane. Do you even live in London, any of you?

Would you have sex with dozens of strangers and not get them to wear condoms? Because they are the only reason we averted an aids epidemic.

Do you actually think that every single person in London who isn't wearing a mask has a medical reason? Have you ever fucking been here? You think that the millions of petty criminals and teenage gangs here give a fuck about wearing a mask? Like they are all 'Ooo just before we knife that guy from across the road let's not forget our masks!' You have a lot of faith in humanity when it is convenient for you to say you do. You are fucking nuts if you think that the millions of random men hanging around during the day not wearing masks are exempt. Seriously. Just grow up.

FTMF30 · 06/10/2020 20:17

@MarriedtoDaveGrohl Calm down, dear.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 20:25

Madame blobby you live as far away from London, and its buses as it's possible to. A crowded commuter bus with teenagers not wearing masks is just a living nightmare. This place is full of people, mostly from abroad, not wearing masks. I thought I'd pop into my local Tesco again but no, again, full of people not wearing masks. One middle aged lady look like she wasn't really the type to just not care. But my god that's some risk taking on her part. I won't go near it with a mask let alone without.

The government measures will have to be either lockdown or having mask wearing everywhere enforced. But there will be a lot of screaming and wailing over that too. All could have been averted if some people weren't pricks.

But that's human nature for you. Everyone's special. Or wants to do their own thing. God do I even care? For me, I get to work at home, lose no money, spend weekends with my mate (we alternate houses) and walk my (pre covid) dog. Instead of driving 2 hours a day and paying a fortune to park.

Wear a mask don't wear a mask. This country is being dragged down by the stupid and the selfish and really you can't afford to think about it. I'm going to book my Ocado slots and not give a fuck, I think. I'll leave Tesco's and public transport to it and reflect on Darwin's theory which is playing out quite nicely. But I do feel so terribly sorry for the elderly. They don't deserve this.

HeresMe · 06/10/2020 20:28

I wear a mask when indoors out of the home and have to do for my job but I will defend anyone with exemptions right not too.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 20:28
@MarriedtoDaveGrohl Calm down, dear.
😂😂

Defenbaker · 06/10/2020 20:32

@MarriedtoDaveGrohl I agree that it's doubtful that all the people not wearing masks are exempt, especially when they are in groups - like the group of 5 teenage girls I saw shopping together yesterday, or the young, fit looking men in their 20s who stride around shops like they own the space, with no effort at SD. Those people flouting the guidelines make things harder for everyone, especially the people with genuine exemptions, who are looked at with suspicion, and vulnerable people who are understandably anxious about going anywhere, but may have no choice but to do their own shopping.

This is why I'm persisting with mask wearing, even though my face gets hot and my glasses steam up, which is not nice, but it's a small thing to tolerate in the scheme of things. I think most people are trying their best, and I try to ignore the rest and just give the unmasked people a wide berth. Getting angry is understandable, but pointless. I'm always glad to take the mask off when I'm outside, away from the shop door, and gulp in the fresh air. Then I have a nice cup of tea and biscuit when I return home, and thank my lucky stars that I'm not one of the critical patients on a ventilator.

SheepandCow · 06/10/2020 20:35

I notice some usernames more than others. No particular reason.

So then @heresme, every single one of the shits in the Leeds barber, all 20 of them, has an honest reason, every m+s shop worker has a reason, every waitress in the restaurant....? Or maybe, just maybe, the vast majority are being special snowflakes. It makes me so mad when I think of the shopworkers here overheating in masks in August, nhs nurses double masked in hot hospitals for hours,...while people in the UK can't put it in for five minutes sat still on a bus. It's bollocks, let's be honest. Of course there's always an exception but it seems half the UK think they're the exception. Mind you, it's another govt fuck up by making it optional for so long.
