People STILL not wearing masks on London buses

I had to take a journey by bus earlier. There were about 10 people on the bus, three of whom were not wearing masks. Drivers need to stop letting people on without masks - these selfish passengers are putting everyone else’s lives at risk! Sad

I suppose that's because most of us would rather that schoolgirls from Covid infested schools didn't go on public transport without masks. I feel sorry for the teachers personally. Kids are out of control and Covid is hitting schools hard. They are trying to keep it quiet but the parents on here talk about it if you care to see it.

It's possible she was exempt. But more possible she couldn't be bothered because she is a teenager and it won't kill her. It will kill the old lady on the bus with her. But never mind it's only an old person!

Kids are out of control?

Jesus calm down!

How on earth are kids “out of control”? And as for the comment about the woman on the bus - you do know even most old people who get it don’t die?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/10/2020 12:01

Well tfl according to the media needs more money and if its not given it in 2 weeks I think it said then no buses will run so you won't have to worry about people with no masks on, you'll have to worry about having no public transport..according to the reports in media

TFL is in the shit because the fares have been frozen for years and because Crossrail is a bottomless money pit.

It might be time for it to be managed properly.

cologne4711 · 05/10/2020 12:08

Kids are not out of control and most elderly people will not die of covid even if they catch it.

cyclingmad · 05/10/2020 15:00

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Your not wrong there with the fares being frozen but plenty of people moan they are too high.

Also I read the government grant qas stopped that didn't help and almost all their money comes from fares which isn't a sustainable model.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/10/2020 15:03

They are high. But it seems that’s not enough to keep TFL going.

SheepandCow · 05/10/2020 16:04

What I don't understand about tfl is how come government funds the rest of the UK transport network?

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 05/10/2020 16:57

TfL must be a shitshow. Heavily unionised, corrupt and with most management made up of people that would last 5 minutes elsewhere. It's cheaper to drive if you have parking too.

Boriswentcamping · 05/10/2020 17:24

Took a train last week and at least 5 people in my carriage were not wearing masks. Maybe some were exempt? I do get that! But at least 3 had them round their chins the entire journey. 🤨 Surely those people were not exempt?

NRatched · 05/10/2020 17:37

Some people can't wear visors either and think that is simple to understand too.
Last I read, visors were quite useless in protecting others (do protect the wearer though) unless they are an addition to a facemask? If this is still how it is, then I don't see what benefits forcing people to wear visors gives? Except for people feeling safer while infact being just as at risk?

But yes, of course some people cannot wear those either.

cyclingmad · 05/10/2020 18:58

I dont know about the rest of the UK but certainly around the world other cities pay grants towards public transport. London is the only city in the road that does give a grant for public transport. Crazy! And any ved tax collected in London goes to pay for road maintenance outside of London. Even more crazy! So Londonders with cars who pay ved it doesn't even go to fix your local roads it goes to fixing roads around the UK.

In Kent a single bus journey costs over £2 yet in London a single one way trip destination is approx £1.50...much cheaper and people say London is expensive!

RingPiece · 05/10/2020 19:50

I was thinking about this thread on my bus journey today. On the downstairs of a packed double decker, only four people, including me, were wearing masks. It seems to be the case now that people take them off after they've got on. Also people were closing the windows straight after someone opened them.

Theworldisfullofgs · 05/10/2020 20:59

HeIenaDove

Thanks and I agree.

I've seen people wear them to get on the bus, they sit upstairs and immediately pull them below their nose.
ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 08:41

you do know even most old people who get it don’t die?

Well, as long as most of them don't die, I suppose that's alright then?

(Just listen to yourselves, jesus fucking christ.)

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 08:52

It doesn't bother me personally - I'm not particularly vulnerable or in contact with anyone who is. I just wear mine when it's legally required, but remove it immediately afterwards.

notworthafly the point of a mask is not to protect you - it's to protect others you may be near. I am very glad to hear that you are wearing one when it's legally required (which frankly is already a step above many people) but when I am conducting risk assessments - and I'm conducting a LOT of risk assessments at the moment - I ask not just "is this legally permissable" but also "what will make this situation safest for everyone there".

MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 09:20

You will know that that was in response to a hysterical point about someone on a bus without a mask and said that an old lady will die as a result presented as fact, when it clearly is not. But never mind, as long as you can twist and quote things out of context to suit whatever your agenda is, eh?
MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 06/10/2020 09:46

It is a well known fact that teenagers and children at schools aren't socially distancing and aren't wearing their masks a lot of the time or washing their hands enough. They are teenagers for Christ's sake that's normal. There's hundreds of kids crammed in and like the uni with OVER 600 cases schools are getting hit.

Anyone who catches public transport or has children at school is familiar with the endless colds and flus doing the rounds every year.

It is also a well known fact that the elderly are more susceptible to dying from this. Far far more susceptible than teenagers. No doubt someone will tell me that neither of these things are true and the Earth is flat.

So a teenager on a bus not in a mask even if they are exempt Is a high risk for others on the bus. They aren't taking precautions to protect others, they have come from a crowded and less safe environment, where presumably they were also not taking precautions.

Will an elderly lady definitely catch it from her? No. Someone like Kate garraways husband might, or someone else's dad. Or maybe no one will. Of course it's not 100% certain no one will. It's fatuous to suggest that that's what I said. You know perfectly well it's not what I meant.

No one suggesting a thug is then titled to attack another man in a fight over it. But that girl was stupid and careless and took chances with other people's lives. And no doubt has parents how do the same.

I despair. Masks are for other peoples protection as well as yours. They offer some protection for you but not as much as they offer others yet some of you are fighting tooth and nail to not wear them. When it could cost someone else's life. It's just so incredibly sad to think that you just don't give a fuck.

Have any if you even read posts here from those that have had it? Of course you have. But you're so busy being furious about your 'rights' and others so called 'right' you just could not give a flying fuck.

I see people every day not wearing them and 90% are male. Like fuck are they disabled or rape victims. Or victims of an incredibly rare condition. They are just selfish cunts.

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 09:58

MadameBlobby i don't think you really understand how this disease is transmitted, or how many people have caught it, and how many people have died or been made long-term ill.

It isn't "hysterical" to link cause (people not taking reasonable precautions to limit transmission) and effect (other people dying, as many people already have).

MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 10:33

It is hysterical to say a school girl sitting on a bus with no mask WILL transmit Covid to an old lady who WILL MOST DEFINITELY die. Not sure if you’re deliberately missing the point or just not getting it.

MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 10:34

And I do understand thanks I’ve read and listened to the news as much as anyone. It still doesn’t mean that everyone who gets it does so due to someone not wearing a mask and that even if they do they will die.

MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 10:38

But you did say that. You said that if a schoolgirl had it and didn’t wear a mask an old lady would die. If it’s not what you meant, maybe you should have explained better what you did mean. This latest post is much more rational. Teenagers think they are invincible and many of them don’t give a fuck about Covid. The current old people will have been the same when they were teenagers. They are often a selfish generation. At the end of the day people will do what they’ll do and the government need to take account of human behaviour in deciding what measures to put in place.
MadameBlobby · 06/10/2020 10:41

And I am not fighting tooth and nail not to wear them. I wear them in every circumstance I am asked to. But no, that’s not enough for some on here, you’ve got to not only wear them but love doing so as well or else you’re selfish or complicit in the murder of grannies.

Honestly I think most people will get through this much easier if they worry less about something you can’t control, ie what other people do. I have followed all measures but I have no way of controlling whether anyone else does, so there’s no point in working myself into a frenzy over it.
