This is what I heard when I turned on the news just a minute ago...by demonstrators in London today...I'm actually really shocked. Do people really think this?? There were A LOT of people at the demonstration...

I mean, I'm not saying I agree with the stats. In fact I think they're all bollocks. Confirmed by a situation from a few days back. A friend of mine went and checked in for his test, scanned his bar code etc, then waited 3 hours - had to leave to get his kids from school, and wasn't allowed back in the queue later.

He got a text within 48hrs informing him that he had tested positive. He didn't even take the test!!!!

CoffeeandCroissant · 26/09/2020 20:26

@treebarking

I'm sort of intrigued to know what would they say if they got really poorly, went to hospital and was told they tested positive...would they think the doctor was lying and they weren't sick at all?! Or that they were sick with "something else"....

@Sarahpaula, the government were,until recently,trying to everyone back to their offices to support town centre businesses. They have only brought in more restrictions since the rate of infections have increased. It is no in their own interests to bring in restrictions unless necessary. They benefit from a booming economy, so they have nothing to gain personally from putting restrictions in place.

Not so long ago you had to believe the earth was flat and the royal family were secretly reptiles to earn the title conspiracy theorist but these days it seems that if you question anything at all to do with covid and the handling of it then you are dismissed as a conspiracy theorist. Clever way of discrediting and silencing anyone who doesn’t agree with the people in power.

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 20:30
@jasjas1973 the world's economy isn't destroyed.

I was in ireland for most of the lockdown. Most businesses were closed for a long time . The economy is still fine in Ireland.

However, I saw many people suffering from terrible mental health problems in Ireland during lockdown. A woman in my local village killed herself. My elderly mother's mental health is currently very, very bad from lockdown
Yes there's definitely an urgent need for better mental health treatment in many countries. I read a terribly sad case a few weeks back. A man killed himself because he had Covid and didn't want to spread it to his family. A few months earlier I read about another poor man who killed himself because he felt unable to protect himself from Covid.

Of course, more funding for MH has been needed for a long time. So many people have been struggling with their MH for years.

Let's hope the current attention finally brings about improved access and treatments - including for traumatised doctors, nurses, and other health and care staff. It's been reported there's been an increase in suicidal thoughts and PTSD amongst many because of the immense pressure and distress of dealing with so many Covid patients (and the impact on other treatment).

category12 · 26/09/2020 20:31

I'll be happy to entertain the possibility of it all being a conspiracy, if someone can explain what worldwide governments are gaining from it.

CoffeeandCroissant · 26/09/2020 20:32

@JKRowlingIsMyQueen

I was there. No, I don't believe corona doesn't exist, what I believe is that the measurements combating corona will end up doing more damage such as pushing people into poverty, mental health damage, cancer deaths etc. There was thousands of people there so I can't say what all of them think obviously, but of course journalists will choose the most out there interviews to air on TV.
Fine, but why would you want to attend and associate yourself with an event where the lead speaker was an anti semitic conspiracy theorist (David Icke) and attended by anti vaxxers, conspiracy theorists and (if the previous Trafalgar Square protest was anything to go by) the extreme far right?
jasjas1973 · 26/09/2020 20:32

@Sarahpaula Not disputing the MH aspects, terrible and our govt is screwing over the young more than any other group (other than those in care homes) seeing students locked in halls is more akin to a what a state like China would do, i hope these young people remember this come the next GE

but back to your post ... to what end?

vera99 · 26/09/2020 20:33

I think I get an inkling why Johnson mentioned the army in his address to the nation this week. It's going to be a long cold winter sadly. Time to bake cakes .....

SallySeven · 26/09/2020 20:34

My family and I never have been tested for any virus or bacteria by our GPs over the years.

Diagnosis by symptoms is the norm in my experience. Friends in the US and on the continent may have verified diagnoses but not us.
So for the UK to have sparse evidence from testing doesn't surprise me in the slightest and doesn't make me think "conspiracy."

However the excess death figures here in the UK were terrible in the spring. Those statistics I do believe.

NHS admin has been shit for years. Things like this, sending the wrong results to the wrong person, mixing up patient contact details, etc. I remember having to redo a blood test once because of an admin error. It felt needs sorting out.

Sorry but CV is the death knell for MH services or indeed a functioning free at the point of use - health service.

The Conservatives believe in a smaller state, the NHS is something they have wanted to destroy for many years, so in this regard, continuing with CV, helps the Conservatives.

Read Britannia Unchained, written by several now leading tory ministers.

I thought testing had been outsourced and wasnt NHS?

PuzzledObserver · 26/09/2020 20:39

So..... the people I know who have had it (some tested, some not but with identical symptoms at the same time) are lying. Plus my colleague whose father died of it. Plus my sister who spent 6 weeks working in ITU on the basis of one day’s training, looking after Covid patients. They’ve all invented what they experienced and saw?

Yeah, right.

Now if you want to argue the efficacy or proportionality of specific measures to control it, crack on. But stop repeating this shit that it’s made up.

Lottle · 26/09/2020 20:39

I've heard similar stuff - doctors being forced to put corona virus on the death certificate when it wasn't etc. Surely the other way round would make more sense? People really do worry me!

ChasingRainbows19 · 26/09/2020 20:41

@SallySeven that’s because they I’ve treatments for your already familiar illnesses. For example they use broad spectrum antibiotics to treat many infections which cover lots of commonly known infections. If these don’t work you can have bloods taken, sputum samples or wait for it.....a swab!

In hospital this is a regular occurrence. We even swab for flu. It’s not so unusual at all.

randomer · 26/09/2020 20:41

It might be helpful to have some doctors, nurses, hospital staff giving interviews. They are on the ground. That way we could get some authentic information.

@LindaEllen, I know somebody who tested positive, they suspected the test was sloppily done and asked for another. The next test was negative. What a farce.

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 20:42

Actually it's interesting the far right organised today's mass mask-less gathering. In London - where a high proportion of the population is BAME (also where many Jewish people live).
Add in that Covid is killing the elderly and disabled. Spreading this virus to BAME and vulnerable people would be a far righter's wet dream. (Of course they're too thick to realise Long Covid affects young, healthy white people too).

GabsAlot · 26/09/2020 20:42

lottle the theorists will say they want numbers higher so people comply with the rules

altho9ugh i dont know how that would work in say new zealand

FrankieStein402 · 26/09/2020 20:43

In 7 months the UK has seen almost as many 'excess' deaths as civilians killed on the whole of WW2 - so the conspiracy must all be about covering up a war.

The laughable thing about the conspiracy theorists is that they believe the UK government is actually capable of managing something.

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 20:44

@Stinkyguineapig
You're right. That's perhaps the problem?

Staffy1 · 26/09/2020 20:44

I'm not so sure David Icke is "far right" as opposed to just "completely nuts".
