Sorry for various typos it is 4am!

BessieSurtees · 24/09/2020 04:31

Arghh that’s so frustrating @Plussizejumpsuit did he recommend you take some piriton or similar. I had an allergic reaction to medication once many years ago and was like a lizard by the morning. But the itching I can remember I just wanted to scratch my skin off. I find Eurax cream good for stopping an itch.

Im up cos I have insomnia and sometimes wander the house at odd hours.

MissEWeatherwax · 24/09/2020 07:05

@legodisasterzone, my DD’s too. Mine use to shout faster, faster.

PennyDreadfuI · 24/09/2020 08:23

Hi all. At least it isn't pissing down today (so far) - perhaps that's why I've woken up in a better mood than the last couple of days. Fingers crossed it lasts!

@Plussizejumpsuit you poor thing, it's one thing after another for you at the moment isn't it. Hope you feel better this morning (and got more sleep!).

@olderwhynotwiser you must be quite close to me because Gosforth Asda and M&S are my 'locals'! Hello 👋 The way it's tearing through schools is such a worry. DD is 23 now but I'd be terrified if she were still at school. She went to Gosforth Central then the Academy and I've read it's in both.

@Bearfrills It was like Lord of the Flies in onesies this made me laugh 😂 You're right though, the last few days with the shit weather and the shit news have felt like a taste of things to come. Probably why I've been in such a foul mood!

@HelenaDove nice to see you here - a shame the news you bring is so crap. My god. It's like a nightmare that doesn't end isn't it. My cat could have handled All This better I think.

The postcode checker widget in the Chronicle has the most up to date stats for cases by the way. Newcastle's has shot up. Two weeks ago it was was around 80 cases in the past seven days, look at the the figure for yesterday. On Tuesday it was 380. That's a massive jump in just one day.

Glad to hear it’s not raining, I’m not out of bed yet
I’m debating another sleep
It still looks dark outside

Plussizejumpsuit · 24/09/2020 09:14

@BessieSurtees I got a bit more sleep thanks. How was your nights sleep? Have you always had insomnia? I feel very lucky to normally sleep well.

I feel like my life is the medication equivalent of the woman who are the fly nursery rhyme! It certainly is one thing after another. I do have long term issues with my thyroid and anxiety. But I'm honestly normally fine! Just coming across as quite sickly at the moment!

Thanks for sharing the chronicle postcode checker @PennyDreadfuI I wasn't aware of it. Really helpful.

I agree the lack of rain helps. Yesterday just felt like it was echoing how everyone is feeling. @Dowser I will almost definitely have a sleep later. It's just afer 9 and I'm knackered!

FrolickingLemon · 24/09/2020 09:17

@NeurotrashWarrior and @EmptyFrogBarrel thanks for the info on Marden Bridge. My DD watched their video this morning and really wants to go there!

FrogBarrel - any luck with a test?

Thelongdarkteatime · 24/09/2020 09:20

Please can I join? County Durham here and on mat leave with a four month old which has been interesting. He is dc3 and the other two are at school and nursery. Dh is a teacher so we are effectively in three schools! We’ve spent an awful lot of time outside over the summer and have invested in a lot of waterproof clothes Smile.

Hope everyone is doing ok- it’s nice to see some local posts Flowers

PickAChew · 24/09/2020 09:33

I've been using this that someone helpfully linked in the last thread. The map gives cases at a local level. My locality is one of the few urban areas that's still grey :/

The sun is trying to make an appearance in North Tyneside this morn. A lovely Autumnal morning for the school run.

I've heard of 8 schools in our locality that have had to send a bubble home since schools reopened. I'm sure there are plenty more that I've not heard about too.

I'm not sure the local parents understand what being sent home from school to isolate means, judging by the number of kids out on their bikes and scooters during school hours 🤦🏼‍♀️

PennyDreadfuI · 24/09/2020 09:46

Thanks for the link @PickAChew, I didn't see it on the last thread. We're a lovely shade of blue Sad

South Tyneside now has the second highest rate of infection after Bolton according to The Chronicle this morning. Hard to believe that a few weeks ago it had one of the lowest rates in the UK (as did most of the NE).

The grassed bit outside my house is full of kids playing football/on their bikes/doing general rough and tumble kid stuff all day. Reading your comment I've only just put two and two together and realised they must be from one of the local schools which have closed/have year groups off. What's worrying is it's all flats here with communal areas - when the children go in after playing together they're in the same buildings as lots of other people.

DH is a teacher in Sunderland and their school had 2 cases last week. They managed not to have to send the whole year group home as they were y7 and y8 who were being taught all lessons in form groups and have assigned seating and zones at lunch and break times. He said they’ve still only got about 75% attendance at the moment though due to the number isolating with symptoms or just being kept at home by parents.

Thanks for that link it’s really interesting. Mine is the palest blue so I suppose it could be worse :/

Hello everyone, been lurking for a while but joining from Ponteland (recently moved from Gosforth - which I miss horribly especially having never got back to the office 😭)

I really need to sort DD (almost 2) some new clothes and shoes for the winter - realised that when all this started she was still in winter clothes from last year. Anyway I’ve always got her shoes from Jump in Gosforth but they recently announced they are closing (more 😭) Can anyone recommend any good independent children’s shoe shops I could try? I don’t really want to go to Clark’s as it restricts you to the one brand. There’s always John Lewis I guess but are they any good at shoe fitting? And I’m not even sure now if it’s still allowed!

DH asked me the other day how long I thought schools would stay open for... I couldn’t bear it if DDs nursery closed; I don’t have enough annual leave left to deal with that having used it all for childcare earlier in the year, and I am so busy at work anyway. DH is a GP so isn’t working from home to help, although thankfully he’s not full time. It’s all such a mess still isn’t it! Can’t get my head around another 6 months away from my colleagues and regular adult company.

CaptainWentworth · 24/09/2020 10:02

PS I got DD tested on Monday because she was coughing and DH needs to be able to go to work - had to drive to Hartlepool with her as that was the nearest drive thru available but we got a result back Tuesday night which I though wasn’t bad. Negative thankfully! It wasn’t very fun to do (took me three swabs- the testing people were very understanding) so hoping she doesn’t have to have too many tests over winter...

BikeTyson · 24/09/2020 10:20

CaptainWentworth I’m gutted about Jump too, I’ve always taken DD there to get her feet measured (and get sucked into buying Froddo boots). I heard there was some talk of them trying to sell the business to someone else but no idea if that will happen or not.

Fenwick's Christmas window not happening would be the north east equivalent to the ravens leaving the Tower of London!

Their Christmas department is open though, so that bodes well. I was so happy to find this in my inbox this morning!

@CaptainWentworth if you don't mind the travel Soled4Kids in Consett is fantastic. People give good reviews to Wiggle Room in Newton Hall too though I've not been there. Soled4Kids has done all my kids since they were tiny. You can book appointments via her Facebook page.

OutComeTheWolves · 24/09/2020 11:17

@Yamashita40 has already mentioned it but here's the link to the list of NE Christmas things that are still going ahead.

Soled4Kids is great, well worth the trip from south of Durham City for my large footed two year old. Great selection of shoes, online booking and full adherence to covid measures, Jane (the shop owner) is really lovely as well

Needanewnamenow · 24/09/2020 11:45

If anyone is looking for a flu jab, particularly under 65, they had loads of slots available from last week at Bishop Auckland big Tesco when I looked this morning. only place my DH has been able to book in
