Another teessider here, from Monkey town
Married to a mackem

Weather has been all kinds of shite here today and sad to think it’s a long 6 month stretch till next spring.

When lockdown happened before , at least it was at the right side of the year with the good weather to look forward to , but now
Omg..my mental health will not cope with this at all.
But it will have to.[/quote]
@Dowser yes it's been such a gloomy day, hasn't it

I can't say I'm surprised about @IggyAce 's report from town, I have only been walking DD to and from school and other parents seem unable to abide by simple rules (mask on school premises, one parent per child max, follow the arrows. That's it!)
I really wouldn't be shocked if a local lockdown happened, lots of people just aren't taking it seriously

Yamashita40 · 23/09/2020 19:49

NW Durham here. Nice to see everyone.

Sam from NE family fun has just posted a few nice Christmas activities if anyone is looking for alternatives to the usuals. I'm frightened to book anything at the minute. Hoping we aren't in local lock down for much longer.

Happyinheels · 23/09/2020 19:53

It all feels so much more real and closer to home now. Over the past 6 months I haven't personally known anyone to be ill with Covid. Now it seems like it's rife. My DD has to self isolate as her Dad has tested positive. He's been quite poorly but she hasn't got any symptoms. I'm really trying to stay positive but I'm self employed and the knock on effect has been massive for me. I really feel like my mental health is starting to suffer...

Joining new thread from Northumberland 😊

BessieSurtees · 23/09/2020 20:03

Thanks @Dowser that’s a hefty price for insurance Shock

I agree that the weather helped us over the first 6 months of Covid restrictions, we’ve had some lovely weather. The clocks go back in a month and I think the dark nights and miserable weather are going to be more difficult.

Fruitbowlflowers · 23/09/2020 20:10

@PickAChew I may have to as he put a desk in there to do his work from!!!

MissEWeatherwax · 23/09/2020 20:34

I hope the tip road to Arnison centre opens sometime this year. I miss the road dip, little bit of free roller coaster. And two year groups at Hermitage school.
Fed up with the rain today but it suits my mood.

DurhamDurham · 23/09/2020 20:34

@Dowser we go every year, it's a family tradition now. The first time we went was to celebrate husband getting a new job after being made redundant a few months earlier, every time we go back I have the same feelings of relief and wellbeing that I had the first time. I'd swap for Tenerife though Grin fingers crossed you get there too

MissEWeatherwax · 23/09/2020 20:36

For Christmas Beamish should be good, especially the evening events, because they can easily control numbers.

Shitfuckoh · 23/09/2020 20:49

@PennyDreadfuI

Yes I was wondering whether I'd get away with using it for Fenwick's as it's ''essential'' to our family traditions - especially since becoming a single parent but really don't think it is!
We've kept to all the rules/guidance throughout and wouldn't really break any for something like that but after following it all, it stings to know we've ended up locked down anyway - totally understand why though!

Yes, getting the bus for you IS essential & don't try to walk it, it's really not worth causing yourself pain over - in your situation getting the bus is essential, whether that's 5 miles or a mile & a half!

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/09/2020 21:08

@FrolickingLemon

Anyone in North Tyneside.. my DD has has prospectus' sent home for middle schools. I thought she would be happy to go to the next school up from her primary IYSWIM. However, Marden Bridge is looking good overall. Anyone have any DC there?

I've worked with staff there, a long time ago. It's generally always had a good reputation.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/09/2020 21:13

Thanks @HeIenaDove. We've been fucked over up here.

There's bubbles popping in schools everywhere, it's just not making the eve chronicle.

A colleague said their daughter had texted to say a lot of police were around the NT coast breaking up groups of people. Though I imagine the rain did that later on.

I've seen a lot of helicopters again too, that was going on during lockdown I remember.

IggyAce · 23/09/2020 21:34

@MissEWeatherwax we love Beamish at Christmas and will hopefully be visiting this year. I don’t think they are doing evening events due to COVID. The Halloween ones aren’t happening.

legodisasterzone · 23/09/2020 21:43

@MissEWeatherwax

I hope the tip road to Arnison centre opens sometime this year. I miss the road dip, little bit of free roller coaster. And two year groups at Hermitage school. Fed up with the rain today but it suits my mood.
I know exactly the bit you mean! When they were younger, the DDs would always squeal as we went over it!
MissEWeatherwax · 23/09/2020 21:45

@IggyAce that’s such shame, about Beamish. I’m a cheap skate and only go on normal opening hours. Hope they do the Christmas nights as they can charge extra. As they need to do, something as they are making people redundant.

EmptyFrogBarrel · 23/09/2020 22:52

Has anyone managed to get a home test in the north east? I’m having no luck trying to get one for my DD.

Bearfrills · 23/09/2020 23:20

I don't think there are any to be had @EmptyFrogBarrel. I managed to get one for DD last week and was really lucky to have done so as everyone I've spoken to since hasn't been able to get one. Could you try school? I know some schools have a limited supply of home tests to give out for people who can't get to a testing centre.

I don't think we'll get Feneicks window this year, hasn't the Christmas market been cancelled too? I've booked the panto at Seaton Delaval arts centre and paid £3 insurance which covers the tickets if it gets cancelled or of we can't go because of having to self-isolate.

I've been making plans today for the weekend to make up for our cancelled trip away. Friday night will be a film with popcorn and sweets, Scoob is on Sky Store and they all love Scooby Doo. Bedtime will be cancelled and they can stay downstairs until they drop. Then on Saturday I'm going to put the tent up in the living room, order a take away for tea, and they can sleep in the tent.

EmptyFrogBarrel · 23/09/2020 23:28

I’ll ask the school when I call in the morning. There have been a load of cases there though, I doubt they’ve got any left.

Dowser · 23/09/2020 23:42

I’ve just had to explain to the normally perceptive but childless Mr D that looking after one, two, three, four or more young children in shite winter weather when there’s precious little open is not conducive to anyone’s well being or mental health.
If he hasn’t got it by morning, a frying pan over the head may be employed.

PickAChew · 23/09/2020 23:48

I'm hoping we don't get into a situation where Ds2 needs a test. We'd not get near him with one.

Bearfrills · 23/09/2020 23:54

All the rain today has given me a taster of what the winter will be like with us all cooped up indoors, DC have been under each others feet since coming home from school/nursery and it was too wet to escape outdoors to play so they decided to entertain themselves by irritating each other. It was like Lord of the Flies in onesies.

olderwhynotwiser · 24/09/2020 00:56

Great to have a NE thread PennyDreadful.
Checking in from Newcastle. Doesn't seem much panic buying around us at the moment thankfully. Gosforth Asda and M and S both very quiet today.
In other news though covid seems to be rapidly moving through schools. My grandson is year 11. Head of Year rang dd on Sunday to say he has to isolate for 2 weeks as sits near a boy who has Covid. Hasn't been back in school 2 weeks yet.
DD teaches in South Tyneside and a whole year group has already been sent home there. Other teacher friends are reporting cases in their schools already. I'm a retired teacher and amongst teachers I know in different schools 3 out of 4 already have cases. Just hope the new measures can contain things.

MaryShelley1818 · 24/09/2020 01:39

Joining the thread from Durham.

Nice to have a local thread.
I've been up since 1am....20wks pregnant and terrible insomnia every night. Lying next to my snoring toddler while his dad is in his room! Lol.

LatteLover12 · 24/09/2020 02:09

I feel your pain @MaryShelley1818 I'm up feeding my 1 week old DS but had pregnancy insomnia the whole 9 months!

Hope you manage to get back to sleep.

Plussizejumpsuit · 24/09/2020 04:02

Hi hope you're nicely back asleep now @MaryShelley1818 and @LatteLover12
