If you do end up coming it's not too bad I don't think. Have you been since they changed the car park layout?

IggyAce · 05/10/2020 22:12

Teesside park on weekdays is normally ok, I usually go after dropping ds at school. I have been after 6pm mid week once and it was quiet.

BikeTyson · 05/10/2020 22:14

Apparently the infection rate for Newcastle last week, once the 'lost' positive tests were added on, was 376 per 100,000. I don't think anywhere else has been anywhere near that? It has to be down to the outbreak at the universities but even so. I think I'll definitely be avoiding town for a bit!

Manchester is 529 today, I think the “lost” results bumped us down a couple of places. I have to walk through Northumbria uni city centre campus a few times a week and tbh it’s very empty.
Apparently in Manchester they seem to be finding that the student cases aren’t translating into wider community transmission so if replicated in other areas that’s a tiny bit of good news at least.

InTheLongGrass · 05/10/2020 22:39

Getting into Teesside park on Saturday afternoon (yes, I know) was hellish. Loads of spaces, but queuing right back from the first lights off the A66. Once you got in it was fairly quiet.
The new layout is crazy, and there is a little chicane about 2/3 of the way down which is going to cause some prangs imo. It's fine when the kids are school. I dont fancy it when its busy - better get started on the christmas shopping if this job I've been offered is actually going to happen!

StealthPolarBear · 05/10/2020 22:40

I think the new layout makes a lot of sense, but when you're used to the nightmare old one...

PickAChew · 05/10/2020 22:51

My mind is boggled that they've managed to make the road layout at teesside Park even more of a nightmare than it already was.

Arnison centre was surprisingly busy, this morning. It was really quiet on Thursday. Normally the other way around. I'm hoping dh gets to see some of his time off, soon because I want a mooch around hobby craft. A month ago I'd have just hopped on the X12 to teesside Park or even the 21 to Gateshead and walked from the aletaster (I know it's now something else, but I refuse to accept that!)

PennyDreadfuI · 05/10/2020 23:31

@Rosehip10

Manchester is 495!
Jeeeesus. And I thought it was crackers when we went over 100!

You're quite right @swg1. What a grim race to be winning, whoever's in the lead.

I missed the last page of this, in my defence I'm knackered and on my way to bed! Looks like I've done a massive cross post.

Night all!

@PickAChew you walked from the Aletaster 😳 I’m obvs a lazy git. Anyhow thats not what I came on to say, your post made me smile because when I first saw that pub I read Ally tAster (A like apple) and thought what a daft name for a pub. How could I not see that it said aletaster 🙄

On the subject of numbers I do wonder how many people would have tested positive had this level of testing been available in March and April. At that point you couldn’t get a test unless hospitalised and you had to be gravely ill to get onto a ward. I know people who were diagnosed and treat at home for covid but not tested.

I don’t think the rise in positive results is comparable with the previous lockdown particularly with so many people asymptomatic. I feel as though we are having these numbers thrust at us every day without any perspective.

PickAChew · 06/10/2020 07:46

I've always walked a lot, @bessiesurtees. It's about the only exercise I can do!

Someaddedsugar · 06/10/2020 08:17

@StealthPolarBear it was me! They apparently have a pair of dinosaur wellies in stock that appear to be out of stock every where else in the north east!

Someaddedsugar · 06/10/2020 08:18

@StealthPolarBear sorry I've just spotted you replied to me too - got very over excited!! I'll PM you when I'm on my laptop! It may be too far but will see - and thank you so much for the very kind offer!

GrishainDisguise · 06/10/2020 10:14

@BikeTyson I wonder if Northumberland campus is still quiet because of the cyber attack. Have they come back online?

GrishainDisguise · 06/10/2020 10:15

I mean Northumbria

KinYeSeeMeNoooo · 06/10/2020 11:09

Can't remember who was asking about it but it's going ahead.

SouterSally · 06/10/2020 11:49

Great news re Fenwick still doing the window etc. still a Christmas tradition for many

PennyDreadfuI · 06/10/2020 14:45

I am SO HAPPY about Fenwick's. Even if going into town on the bus to see it all doesn't count as an essential journey. I shall wait until there's something essential I have to go in for and make a day of it!

OP posts:
BikeTyson · 06/10/2020 16:33

I’ve seen fenwicks window every Christmas since the 80s so it would have been end of days stuff if they cancelled it!

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 06/10/2020 16:37

Well that's cheered me up about Fenwicks at least because Boris speech this morning made me hate him even more.

StealthPolarBear · 06/10/2020 16:41

Some added sugar please do. I need to go shopping tomorrow or Thursday and going to teesside park is easy.

BikeTyson · 06/10/2020 16:52

@GrishainDisguise good question, I’m not sure! Hope so, otherwise the poor sods could be stuck with online teaching that doesn’t work...

I like this twitter account for data. Is suggesting the recent high cases are uni driven

ColouringPencils · 06/10/2020 18:39

Do we think it is because universities are testing more and it is actually much more prevalent in society?
I feel a lot for university staff. At least with schools you have some way of controlling people, but I think the chances of asking young adults not to socialise in their halls, especially when you told them it was safe to come and they have paid their fees...well, they won't be having any of it.

Someaddedsugar · 06/10/2020 19:35

@StealthPolarBear messaging you now Smile

PickAChew · 06/10/2020 20:22

Yeah, the areas of Durham City with the higher numbers are student central.
