@housemdwaswrong I don't think lickdowns are being encouraged at present Grin

Ecosse · 17/09/2020 23:34

Lockdown is not a sustainable solution- you’re simply back to square one as soon as things open (which they have to at some point as we cannot lock down indefinitely).

What we need to have is an effective test, track and trace system that has the capacity required and is able to turn around results quickly in order to isolate contacts.

At the moment, we have contacts in the community potentially unknowingly transmitting the virus.

If levels of community transmission get to dangerous levels, we also need to focus on protecting the vulnerable and effectively find their wages until it is safer. However, we absolutely cannot afford to shut the economy down again or we will have no money left for the NHS!

housemdwaswrong · 17/09/2020 23:36

@everythingisginandroses I don't know...a different take could lighten things up Grin

I use the swype think on my phone keyboard where you just drag your finger through the letters instead of typing each one. It's mostly very effective, but I'm awful for not checking before I press send/ post. I managed to wish loads of people a 'lonely ' Christmas last year...

Kashtan · 17/09/2020 23:37

This is certainly being touted as an option. DH is senior in an NHS trust and this idea is running

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 17/09/2020 23:38

Kashtan. In what way? In a severe dont go out lockdow way? Or just dont go to the pub way?

MrsAmaretto · 17/09/2020 23:40

Wtf? I live in Shetland they can get tae fuck with a national lockdown. We've had 2 cases in 3-4 months.

Local lockdowns are what are needed. It's no wonder England is in a mess - people are going to nightclubs, shopping, beaches, allowed to meet up with people from 6 different households. That's why you've got a rise in covid cases - live has gone back to normal.

Remmy123 · 17/09/2020 23:41

No - I'm not doing that

housemdwaswrong · 17/09/2020 23:41

@MrsAmaretto I'm assuming by national they mean England.

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 17/09/2020 23:42

I don’t think an idea running in the NHS will have much impact on our government.

HeIenaDove · 17/09/2020 23:42

Better not make any plans for Christmas then including spending any money on it

MotherOfDragonite · 17/09/2020 23:44

"I don't think lickdowns are being encouraged at present"

Eat Out to Help Out?!!!

Treesofwood · 17/09/2020 23:44

Mrs amaretto Scotland as a whole is not doing too great.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 17/09/2020 23:44

Kids will want presents though. And food. And some fun craft to do. Im planning early even if its on a much tighter budget

... Only blithering idiots would lock down Shetland with its current status .... but oh look, the blithering idiots are running / ruining the UK
Ecosse · 17/09/2020 23:46

The vast majority of areas in Scotland (really everywhere except Glasgow and the surrounding area) have low numbers of cases.

Sturgeon certainly hasn’t helped though.

Londonmummy66 · 17/09/2020 23:49

Perhaps it would be better to just cancel half term altogether - not as if the children haven't missed enough school already...

TheClitterati · 17/09/2020 23:50

How do they even know when it's virtually impossible to get tested at the moment?

JKRowlingIsMyQueen · 17/09/2020 23:51

They've lost it.

ReefTeeth · 17/09/2020 23:51

I'm surprised that so many are surprised about another lockdown.

When the numbers rise, they need to be bought down. Lockdown over half term stops people from travelling therefore containing the virus to that area.

It's happening everywhere around the world, why would the UK think it would be different there Confused

I'm on week 10 or 52 of second lockdown with a curfew having previously done 8 or so weeks earlier this year.

It absolutely fucking sux and I'm close to the edge now with it all, homeschooling and working. But there's no other option until there is a vaccine.

There's no 'living with' a virus that does such long term damage to the body even for those who've had a mild case.

The knock on health affect of Covid 19 I believe is going to be felt by lots for many years.

Ecosse · 17/09/2020 23:52

@ReefTeeth

There’s no evidence that COVID causes any more ‘long term’ damage to the body than any other virus.

Bettyboop89 · 17/09/2020 23:53

That’s my son’s 2nd birthday ruined Sad

housemdwaswrong · 17/09/2020 23:56

@Ecosse you were given links from various places last time which proves this to be untrue.

Ecosse · 17/09/2020 23:57

@housemdwaswrong

Less than 1% of those testing positive for COVID (so even less when you account for asymptomatic cases) will have symptoms after a few months.

That is no higher than other viruses.

SansaSnark · 18/09/2020 00:01

In W Cornwall, people are distancing, they're doing their socialising outside and mask wearing in shops is pretty much 100%. Cases are startlingly low.

208 deaths in Cornwall suggests there are lots of cases that have been undetected, unless the death rate is about 19%- which is pretty scary in its own way.

The knock on the economy, people's lives, mental health, jobs and businesses is gonna be felt by lots for many decades if they keep locking us up every time cases rise. Vaccine take years to get developed and tested etc.
