Shocked at people blatantly ignoring rule of 6!

I knew it would happen, but it has still shocked me, especially the types of people who are doing it! (Eg not always younger ones). Someone at work, who has only just returned from shielding has flouted it 3 times already. She has bad chest and heart problems, so I’d have thought she’d be more careful. It’s hard not to feel cross about it, especially when you’re keeping to the rules yourself, mainly to protect people like them!

but this twat Johnson gets a free pass???

You'll get a chance to vote him out next time if you want (if he's still there which I doubt). Rules of law and democracy are what keeps us from anarchy. They're not there to be broken.

secretllama · 17/09/2020 20:43

The absolute anarchy of visiting friends and family.

LetsPlayAGame20 · 17/09/2020 20:44

I'm selfish too.
I am not, not seeing my family. However there wouldn't be more than 8 max.

Luckily my dad and sister are our support bubble as he has shared care and a single man/ parent of my sister who is a
dependent.

In laws would make it 7 on a weekday except 8 a weekend as we have dhs dc.

We've been seeing them twice weekly for months and I'm not planning to stop it. (plus they cook an amazing dinner 😉)

Chestergirl39 · 17/09/2020 20:52
@chestergirl39 So our fault for not obeying contrary rules but the very thing we need to control CV - testing and tracing etc is a (totally avoidable) fucking mess but this twat Johnson gets a free pass???
FFS.
I agree that test and trace, and many other things have been a complete and utter disaster. We can have our say about that at the next election, as annabel says.

But seeing as it’s not working properly, and schools are back in fully and positive cases and hospital admissions are rising, and the economy is f**ked, what would you suggest?

It’s about personal responsibility, being sensible, not throwing your toys out of your prom and stamping your feet.

jasjas1973 · 17/09/2020 20:56

@annabel85 Yes how reassuring! just 4 years to go :(

You ve missed the point, BJ has successfully turned his and the tory party's failure to get adequate TnT and testing in place, despite 6 months prior warning, onto us.

They messed around with their own app for many months, convinced that the UK could override Apple and Googles privacy policies, lied to us all saying it was all going swimmingly in the IoW before a huge U turn and they decided to work with Apple etc.... but many months lost.

Spiderbaby8 · 17/09/2020 20:59

I'm following the rules but it seems weird to me that 6 different people from 6 different households can meet and yet 2 households that make up 7 is illegal. The first seems much more likely to spread the virus to many more people?

jasjas1973 · 17/09/2020 21:00

By blaming ourselves, we allow the govt to keep messing us all about, they don't care, they'll stay rich and will get the best med care should they get ill.

This lot will only change tack when they see the polls swinging against them but so far they are untouchable and treat us with the contempt we deserve.

Obeying some rule won't change the path we are on, only testing and tracing will do that.
Prioritising testing just means the virus spreads and no one knows.

Chloemol · 17/09/2020 21:07

It’s not shocking, it is a sad reflection of the times, as evidenced day in day out on this forum, people more than happy to break the rules because they can’t possibly apply to them , the 6 can’t mean people in the house hidden away upstairs, in other rooms, etc. When we were in lockdown loads of posts about breaking rules and using common sense

Unless people start to abide by the rules we are heading for another lockdown.

Never mind though, plenty more moaning fodder for this forum when lockdown starts

Pixxie7 · 17/09/2020 21:12

The new rules make no sense and are confusing is it really any wonder people aren’t following them to the letter. The government are making things up as they go because of the economy.

Well, we, the nation, voted for him and his party by an overwhelming majority less than a year ago. That's democracy. Vote him out next time or in the meantime put pressure on local MP, but you still have obey the law of the land.

middleager · 17/09/2020 21:20

I'm just pleased my 14 year olds can vote next time. I hope all these kids vote with their feet.

I don’t blame anyone for wanting to see friends and family. We’d all trade that for going to pubs etc. And I can’t get too annoyed about family groups of 7 instead of 6, but we probably all need to limit our social interactions with different groups of people. Isn’t that common sense?

And yes the government come across as incompetent buffoons. BUT the more people who ignore the rules, and repeatedly flout them, the longer we have to put up with them or more restrictions. Plus hospital cases are rising, which is bad news for everyone, especially those who are vulnerable.

LolaSmiles · 17/09/2020 21:25

What I'm currently struggling with is that in Scotland and Wales under 11s don't count, but in England everyone counts, including babies in pushchairs who remain over 2m away from everyone else at all times.

In England the government claims schools are safe because children don't spread it, schools have been banned from doing anything other than full opening, but at the same time if you're a larger family then it's illegal to see anyone with your family because your children count.

Which is it? Either children can catch it and are a serious risk, in which case fund schools to operate more flexibly, or they aren't a serious risk, in which case make under 11s exempt from the rule of 6 people.

MoreW1ne · 17/09/2020 21:27

Part of the problem is for some people they're used to being around more people now that lockdown ended and things have moved on.

I'm a teacher so at work I'm always around 30 odd 15 year olds (many bigger than me so feel like adult size) and then as staff were often together in groups far larger than 6.

We occasionally send an email or mention in a briefing the notion of social distancing but it's never really there. It's just impossible.

As a result, its rarely on my mind. So its quite easy to suddenly find myself with more than 6 people without even considering it. I dont purposefully think about breaking the rules, but it's hard to switch on to thinking about it when leaving the workplace.

There will no doubt be lots of others in similar jobs that have the same.

BogRollBOGOF · 17/09/2020 21:30

DS broke the law yesterday by crossing the road to talk to the cluster of classmates that he had just spent 6 hours with in school. Seeing them out in a front garden is consideranly lower risk than the exposure he'd had all day.
I draw the line at telling him that this week the law changed to effectively ban him from seeing friends/ family under most circumstances.

He is 7. Three years younger than the age of criminal responsibility.

It's not even an offence in Wales or Scotland.

I respect laws that are sensible and logical.

I'll be running a race at the weekend with socially distanced micro-waves of 9 runners at a time (total field 500). Official activity. All good ✅
Yet going for a walk with another family of four ❌ What actually is the practical difference of two households that naturally split as the children run off into pairs? How is that more lethal than sitting in a pub witb 5 friends from different househòlds. ✅

I'm not asking for big parties or crowding into houses. Just basic human interaction between families. I haven't seen most of my family in 6 months. DH may well get to the end of the year seeing one sibling once. It's not been practical to travel and stay with his main core of family. We've already done 6 months of behaving nicely and interracting well within the guidelines. 90% of the population was compliant. I'd rather be keeping the socialising outdoors in low risk environments. The only two people to have entered our house in 6 months have been 7yo and a 9 yo to come and play within guidelines.

We didn't solve the virus in the first lockdown, and neither did France nor Spain with tighter restrictions. So what's the point in destroying the economy and mental health by removing people's rights to a family life anyway.

cassgate · 17/09/2020 21:37

@secretllama

When we are finally "allowed" to hug our families and gather in groups , the virus will spread again. Then another lockdown. Infections are lower so restrictions are eased...virus spreads again. Repeat and repeat .... I'm not waiting till the virus is gone to be "allowed" to hug my family. I'm selfish, sorry about that! 🤷‍♀️
Agreed. I find it odd the government haven’t realised that the virus is here to stay and we are on a never ending merry go round. Why not make funding available to protect the most vulnerable. Permanently furlough those who can’t work because medical conditions make them vulnerable. Fund online delivery of groceries for those of retirement age. Have delivery prescription services available for those who need them. Let the rest of us take our chances.
jasjas1973 · 17/09/2020 22:01

@Chestergirl39

As i said, what we do will make little difference, without track and trace and a full testing regime, we are heading for another lockdown and or more deaths.
Sure we can hand wash and limit social interaction but if outbreaks are not identified, they will spread widely, making limiting Cv impossible.
We dropped testing in March and look what that led too.

Look at countries who have managed to work alongside/control CV, Testing & TnT is the only answer.

KitKatastrophe · 17/09/2020 22:04

Criminals. It's up to the police and the authorities to enforce the law.
Yep they're one step down from mugging old ladies and kicking puppies.

Isn’t that a bit mean on the vulnerable though, just to lock them away? These could be our parents or grandparents, they have a right to a life too. And if we’re all sensible we can keep interacting, but at a safer distance. If we’re not, we will have more restrictions.

I bumped into 2 mum friends I the park. 4 kids in total. But the kids were on the slides the whole time so no idea of they were in our group or not!

I'll be celebrating DD's 1 bday outdoors in a group of 9. Kids don't touch the GPs. If anyone asks the extra people are helping me test my eyesight as it's a bit far for me to drive to barnyard castle Wink

At no point did I say it should be mandatory for people to accept the help. But at the moment we have a population of what 65 million people who are all being expected to comply with rules that mostly protect a small percentage of the population. The vast majority of people will have a mild illness if they catch it that’s if they have any symptoms at all. All I meant was that we should give people the choice by ensuring there is a safety net for people if they do wish to lock themselves down until we get a vaccine (if we get one).
jasjas1973 · 17/09/2020 22:22

Large numbers of the population would be vulnerable, elderly (anyone over 60) obese, asthma, heart conditions, diabetics....

Millions expected to lock themselves away?

Apparently we haven't the tests because SAGE modellers said we didn''t need them... so says Dido Harding..... blame someone else:(

I agree with everything you say but blame doesn’t get you anywhere unfortunately and doesn’t help with solutions now. We have to make changes before we get swamped again. Everyone will have their own opinions on what being sensible means to them and some people don’t care at all and will do what they want anyway. Some people think they are special and exempt from the guidelines and some don’t like being told what to do.

The rules don't make sense and Government are actively encouraging us to do our neighbours in.... in history that has never gone well....

Chestergirl39 · 17/09/2020 23:18

Yes that’s not the best thing to encourage, especially when everyone is a bit on edge and stressed! What rules would you impose? And how would you enforce them?
