Lots of things out of stock in the supermarket again?

Wondering if it's just us locally but pasta, toilet roll, tinned tomatoes and long life stuff all seem to be completely out of stock again :(

Is it the same when you are? I was hoping this wouldn't happen again but I suppose with the new rule brought in, people realising Christmas isn't going to be the same as usual and Brexit looming, perhaps people have started stocking up.

It's all so bloody depressing

A few things were missing from Tesco order, but mostly ok.

eufycurious · 18/09/2020 17:43

I went to Aldi yesterday, it was well stocked, I didn't notice any gaps.

exiledfromcornwall · 18/09/2020 23:14

No gaps here either (Gloucestershire). I have been doing some low-level stocking up, e.g. on tinned tomatoes, rice pasta, but nothing likely to break the supply bank. Let's hope we don't return to the dark days of early lockdown.

Just putting a little request here for anyone reading this thread.
Please leave the gluten free food for those with Coeliac Disease. Last lockdown we had terrible problems trying to get anything for our Coeliac child as muggles were buying it up. It was distressing to hear they were then throwing it away as they didn't like the taste.

The Baked Bean section at my local massive Tesco was decimated today. Pasta looking sparse as well.

No gaps at Tesco Warrington

RedToothBrush · 19/09/2020 09:08

No gaps at Tesco Warrington
How about Asda Westbrook?!

(semi joking as its got an outbreak amongst the self stackers)

Nofty · 19/09/2020 09:10

Fine in London and Ocado has loads of slots and is well stocked too.

Vivana · 19/09/2020 10:02

Just because shelfs are empty it does not mean people are panic buying. There could be so many reasons eg cleaning shelfs, stock takes, rebranding, supplier issues.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 20/09/2020 17:14

pinklegobrick - I completely agree. I got mightily fed up when my mum and I were stuck unable to get hold of gluten and dairy free stuff. I mean yes we can still eat meat, fish and vegetables but it was really annoying to not be able to get other things and like you say free from stuff is a different taste and people were wasting it.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 20/09/2020 17:26

In Aldi this morning with DH getting a few things and there was a family putting whole trays of tinned goods in their trolley. Maybe they only do a big shop once a month, but it was leaving big gaps on the shelves.

sleepyhead · 20/09/2020 17:34

Ground cumin is out of stock everywhere round here, and herbs/spices section has lots of gaps in all the big supermarkets and small shops. Might just be the students being back and stocking up though.

Everything else in big Tesco was fine today (except sodding bubble bath)

My daughter is a Manager at Sainsburys and she said they have been very busy today with people stocking up.

ShanghaiDiva · 20/09/2020 19:30

Some shelves empty at Waitrose, but it’s next to a hall of residence and students back this week: hardly any baked beans.
All seemed normal at Lidl today.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 21/09/2020 09:39

I think a lot of it is students going back this weekend. especially when it comes to tinned tomatoes, baked beans, soup and pasta. I have put 2 extra loaves of bread in the freezer but as that was due to go off the next day anyway I can't see that would cause a shortage for anyone.
