Lots of things out of stock in the supermarket again?

Wondering if it's just us locally but pasta, toilet roll, tinned tomatoes and long life stuff all seem to be completely out of stock again :(

Is it the same when you are? I was hoping this wouldn't happen again but I suppose with the new rule brought in, people realising Christmas isn't going to be the same as usual and Brexit looming, perhaps people have started stocking up.

It's all so bloody depressing

Ps baking stuff could be down to bake off - I picked up my mixer, tins etc from my old house in anticipation today

Literallynoidea · 16/09/2020 14:55

Reading this I have just added some things to my Ocado order that I don't really need and bulk bought vitamins from Amazon.

I have my excuses for this (shielding family member) but then again most of us can summon up decent reasons to stockpile.

These threads just panic people into buying more than they need!

RhubarbTea · 16/09/2020 15:03

Here in Cornwall stock levels seem a bit 'gappy', with low stock of random things or supermarkets stopping selling certain lines to focus on others. So, a bog reduction in choice and variety. Bread flour seems popular but generally there is still stuff to be had, some of the cheapest version of popular lines are out of stock for some things.

Peaseblossom22 · 16/09/2020 15:06

Also shopping delivery slots are starting to get scarce again .

NotAKaren · 16/09/2020 15:40

Noticed some big gaps on the cleaning products shelves in a supermarket yesterday

GreyishDays · 16/09/2020 16:14

@Caspianberg

I assume many people have been home with children since March, running down stocks and trying to get in and out of the supermarkets quickly. It’s the first week many children have been back at school in months, so many taking the probably short lived opportunity to restock up now.
I don’t think people had managed to stockpile six months’ of food.
PennyDreadfuI · 16/09/2020 16:22

FFs it's exactly things like this thread which cause people to panic buy. And leaves those with mobility issues/no car/not much money up shit creek.

SantaClaritaDiet · 16/09/2020 16:46

funnily enough, I have just checked my local supermarkets and they have MORE slots available!

OneForMeToo · 16/09/2020 17:16

Everything in stock in all the shops I’ve been too today apart from tomato turkey twizzlers Grin

SimpleComforts · 16/09/2020 17:35

I love all the peope insisting it's irresponsible to stock up a bit. Surely, currently, it's irresponsible not to know you can manage for 14 days without leaving the house?

StCharlotte · 16/09/2020 18:08

In case you're wondering where the all tinned sweetcorn is, blame the anglers!

Ha, yes MN- what part of isolating at home dont you understand

Also MN - what do you mean you bought a 2kg bag of pasta this is why no one can get any Confused

whirlwindwallaby · 16/09/2020 18:56

Three 500g bags of wholewheat fusilli in my cupboard. Not going back to those dark days in April of trying to get spaghetti to stay on the fork!

VerbenaGirl · 16/09/2020 19:00

Yes! Our Tesco was out of wipes, fish fingers and baked beans today - which seemed odd.

TurquoiseDress · 16/09/2020 19:10

Oh no please no more stocking up & panic buying, with it months before we could get an online delivery!Shock

BooseysMom · 16/09/2020 19:12

@StCharlotte.. I've just sent your sweetcorn and anglers pic to my bro. He's an aangler and should find that funny Grin

SpeedofaSloth · 16/09/2020 19:14

No, not here.

Echobelly · 16/09/2020 21:02

Tesco was just fine this evening. Only I couldn't find fresh basil #firstworldproblems

We got a small, gradual stock cupboard for Covid, but are having to eat some of it now. Keeping rest for Brexit, and will probably add to gradually before then - I'm not actually convinced things will run out because of Brexit, but I'm 100% sure that everything will get way more expensive so I might stock up on stuff form Costco in advance to save some money in the short term!

Imissmoominmama · 16/09/2020 21:05

All the pasta is in DS’s student house. There are 6 of them living there and they took an average of 2 tonnes each when they moved in on Saturday Grin.

Ditto loo rolls and beer.

Bingobongo1 · 16/09/2020 21:20

Just done my online tesco order can't get several gluten free products, fish fingers, frozen peas, tinned pineapple and zip lock sandwich bags (needed for dc masks at school). This is the most out of stock items I've had since April/May.

Vivana · 17/09/2020 00:05

I work in a supermarket and have not seen any panic buying at all and the shelves are well stocked by us staff who are tired and stressed and putting our health at risk just like we did during lock down. If another lock down happened I know many retail staff won't work through another and up signed off due to stress.

Vivana · 17/09/2020 00:05

End

BigChocFrenzy · 17/09/2020 00:35

"Agree that these sorts of posts are purely intended to scaremonger and should be banned. Completely irresponsible"

The OP just said quite calmly what was happening in her area and asked if others had noticed it
Some have;some haven't
No big deal.
People on MN are always asking if someone else has similar problems to them

It's certainly not a banning issue

  • if we ever get to the stage where there has to be censorship of moderate OPs like this, to keep public order
... that's when it's time to panic
BigChocFrenzy · 17/09/2020 00:39

It's sensible to gradually get in 2 weeks supplies, plus maybe a bit for No Deal Brexit
Prepping slowly before winter, not panic-buying

Torvean32 · 17/09/2020 01:55

No problems in my local Sainsburys. No idea about alcohol as im there at 9am and it's still closed off.
