Another National Lockdown

What are the chances ? Sky News are reporting the possibility and a second lockdown has become a reality in Israel.

How likely do you think it is ?

“ Welsh health minister warns that national lockdown could be just weeks away

Steven Morris Steven Morris
The Welsh health minister has warned that a national lockdown could be a few weeks away unless people follow the new Covid-19 regulations.

On the day most people in Wales are obliged to wear masks when they go into shops and other public places, Vaughan Gething said the county was in a “parallel position to early February,” adding: “We were in national lockdown in the third week of March.”

Speaking on BBC Radio Wales, Gething said:

We have a number of weeks to be able to get to a position where we can recover some of the ground with a return to effective social distancing, with a return to respecting the rules we have in place to save people’s lives or we will be forced into greater local lockdowns and the potential for another national lockdown.

He said that if a widespread lockdown was necessary he hoped all four governments would work together - but said he would also take Wales-only action if needed.”

Apologies if someone’s already posted that, but I just saw it on the Guardian website.

How will Wales pay for a lockdown that closes businesses?

Hope we don’t follow

How could I stop my daughter inviting her best friend over after school
😂**

tbh I thought that. 🙄

Bathroom12345 · 14/09/2020 11:49

I dont think there will be another lockdown but we are pussyfooting around. Take the most at risk people, forget about being ageist, racist etc these people need supporting.

Having said that - could you imagine if they tried to lockdown people over say 75 back in March. The outrage would have been immense and yet they are by FAR the most at risk.

halcyondays · 14/09/2020 11:49

When does furlough end? Is it the end of October? I can see Wales, NI and Scotland going back into full lockdown before then but once it ends they don’t have the money to furlough people themselves unless the UK government agrees to extend it.

LindaEllen · 14/09/2020 11:50

I think it is a distinct possibility, because I don't think people will take the new rules of 6 seriously enough. Already this morning I have walked past a group of young adults sitting in the park together. They're probably from the same college and will be spending the rest of the day together anyway - but the point in, they shouldn't be socialising together, plus there was no social distancing. People don't seem to get that no matter how much of a threat they think this virus is, if we don't get cases down, harsher action will be taken, and THAT'S what scares me more than the virus itself, therefore I hope people do take the new rules seriously.

I struggled a lot with the first lockdown, and actually had covid in April, was unwell for about 6 weeks and still have after effects now, so slowly getting back to normal was helping me a great deal. The backwards steps we're now taking worry me a lot.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 14/09/2020 11:50

Not least because the mask police want disabled people who are exempt to stay at home to protect them, they couldn’t care less about the well-being of their disabled exempt person
This isn't about disabled people. Not all people exempt from wearing masks are disabled.

Do those who are exempt from wearing masks care that they may transmit the virus to the non-exempt?

You tell her the law of six and that people shouldn’t break the law. Unless in Scotland children should be distancing anyway so 2m apart. Can’t really play from that distance and chatting eg can be done via numerous technology means.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 14/09/2020 11:52

@MarshaBradyo Didn’t you know Dominic Cummings excretes money? Hence the reluctance to get rid of him and the never ending pot of money the UK seem to have Confused

Does being age 75 and over automatically put people at risk though or is it the health conditions people have that put them at risk, regardless of age?

halcyondays · 14/09/2020 11:57

I think people over 70 are at increased risk even if they have no underlying conditions.

MarshaBradyo · 14/09/2020 11:59

Age alone increases risk

Underhisi · 14/09/2020 11:59

How do some people stay alive with no brain cells.

MarshaBradyo · 14/09/2020 12:01

Underhisi who?

Underhisi · 14/09/2020 12:02

Still waiting for the names of those countries.

Underhisi · 14/09/2020 12:04

Not you.

Yesyoudoknowme · 14/09/2020 12:07

I'm off on a (UK) holiday shortly so sod that - I have worked all through lockdown - had my foreign holiday cancelled, missed significant birthdays if they think I am staying stuck at home when I have a cottage booked they can fuck off. Start by enforcing the rules they have so every one complies, then think about it.

MarshaBradyo · 14/09/2020 12:07

I didn’t think so but wondered if it was general or to one poster. I guess they know if it’s them

Underhisi · 14/09/2020 12:08

The poster who is advocating locking away disabled people and children indefinitely and thinks it is a proportionate response

jasjas1973 · 14/09/2020 12:16

Really? You said....

It's not in the public domain and I shouldn't even be talking about it on here. Tangible things are happening - money being spent on infrastructure, that infrastructure being installed, logistics being sorted, workforce plans confirmed

Kinda implies you know quite a bit.

I’m not sure how you would just tell them to “fuck off” If they force holiday cottages to close like they did last time though??
Aridane · 14/09/2020 12:29

I mean that I won't comply because I will never again agree to not going to the help of my elderly parents as their health was failing and they were hospitalised

How did you manage to get to see them when they were hospitalised?

Yes, that is all stuff that is happening right now in the NHS in order to facilitate the mass vaccination programme from mid October! I'm not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse or if it's that hard to understand? As I said earlier, I know nothing about the status of the clinical trials or how or when any of this might be communicated, only what we are being asked to do. Quickly.

The only reason I said I shouldn't be talking about it here is that it's not entirely professional to talk about specific work projects on the internet and it's not something I would usually do. But I felt like some people might appreciate the info, as we all have a personal stake in this after all. There is no conspiracy here, or at least certainly not one that I'm aware of!

Aridane · 14/09/2020 12:39

Mask-wearing (not face coverings) to be worn by law over the mouth and nose outside the home. If you can't comply then, unfortunately, you will need to not go out until you have received a safe, effective Covid vaccine."

Clearly torturing profoundly disabled people is something you are in favour of

Whereas requiring the c.7m Vulnerable to shield (as opposed to the c.1.5m CEV to shirks) is?

SheepandCow · 14/09/2020 12:39

Do those who are exempt from wearing masks care that they may transmit the virus to the non-exempt?

It's pretty low to use disabled people as an excuse for widespread lack of mask wearing. The majority of disabled people not only can and do wear masks but need them more than most. Many disabled people are at significantly higher risk from Covid. The majority of disabled people should stay at home to protect the small minority who are genuinely exempt? In this situation, where both groups are disabled, the needs of the majority has to take precedence.
