How can you do this to your children (and yourselves)?

It has been six months and it's now very clear that covid won't be doing away in our lifetimes. A vaccine won't eradicate it (just as a vaccine didn't eradicate flu).

Most of you seem to be willing to accept social distancing and masks for the foreseeable. And I don't get it. We are a tribal species. We literally die without contact and get sick without communication. Kids are learning arrange, stilted ways of being that will just worsen their digital reliance. OCD is being normalised. Dating will be neurotic and masked. Freshers won't make new loves or lifelong friends like we did. As for their working lives...

I wouldn't mind catching covid (indeed I'm sure we all will sooner or later) so can someone explain to me what on earth is happening in their heads to tip the balance? If it only affected us, I could understand (well, I couldn't but this feels like child abuse on a giant scale).

All my family and friends are wearing masks where needed (indoor public places and public transport) and keeping to the social distancing rules.
They are not ‘cowering in bunkers’ how ridiculous.
We’re all working, having get togethers, going out and about, having bbqs, going for walks with friends. We’ve been to beaches, forests and parks. My dcs have met friends for picnics, bike rides and football and raised money for charities.
Now they’re going to school and wearing masks when they need to.
It’s possible to adhere to rules and advice and to be socially responsible as well as living your life.

Och, the my-family-are-not-selfish brigade will change their tune when their kids are on their 3rd period of isolation from school by Christmas.

sunglassesonthetable · 13/09/2020 18:17

the my-family-are-not-selfish brigade

who are they exactly?

coffeeforone · 13/09/2020 18:17

I'm with the OP.

sunglassesonthetable · 13/09/2020 18:21

well thats another one chirping up.
" i agree with OP". Where did the rest go?

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 13/09/2020 18:24

I agree with you OP

Mollyboom · 13/09/2020 18:24

Agree with you OP- I won't bee following the rule of 6. I have had covid as has my husband- children were not tested but were all asymptomatic.I will be having friends round as and when I like as will all of my children. Quite a lot of new cases in my area but not a single hospital admission- I am simply not prepared to accept restrictions on this evidence. It's all about the life you want to live. I have tried to live as normal a life as possible throughout this.

SallySeven · 13/09/2020 18:25

@canigooutyet
Sorry I meant that I was able to smile, wave and generally interact with this random toddler despite the OP's dire view of the world. Because we were just out on the street where we live and we only have to wear masks in shops or on the bus.

I get that it's odd round the shops but the sky is not falling in where I am.

Fosler · 13/09/2020 18:33

I have not read the whole thread because it's just too depressing. There is a LOT of info on line which goes against these draconian measures which have been imposed without any scientific justification.

Sweden didn't go into lockdown and they survived. The heartbreak caused and the deaths, over these past six months is genocide. Suicides are up and once the real financial impact hits they will massively rise.

These measures are changing our lives for ever. I'm sickened by the adverts showing people wearing masks, even kids. It's so wrong.

NotAKaren · 13/09/2020 18:34

We literally die without contact and get sick without communication

I don't get this hysteria OP, is this a reflection of your personal situation? We can still have contact and communication. My DC have returned to school, they have had a pretty lovely long summer break, they have spent lots of time with friends. Many I know have returned to workplaces or others have found that they are just as happy WFH and find life less stressful without a commute. I can see friends and family, go to the gym, pubs and restaurants. The only issue for me is restricted travel and having to remember to wear a mask is a PITA but I don't expect this to last forever.

Fosler · 13/09/2020 18:36

Also, if the flu vaccine worked, bearing in mind it's been around for about 60 years, then it would have eradicated the flu.

sunglassesonthetable · 13/09/2020 18:38

Flu is not as dangerous as Covid @Fosler
There is no drive to eradicate it.

HelloMissus · 13/09/2020 18:41

sunglasses the self important types who proudly and publicly announce how they are their DC are absolutely fine with all restrictions because they’re not ‘selfish’.

In my opinion their selflessness works because it isn’t proving a problem for them. Easy enough.
But when it doesn’t work for them - they not as sanguine.

Fosler · 13/09/2020 18:42

It is claimed that 'cases of coronavirus' are rising. That does not say COVID-19, so that includes normal colds and flu. So what are we meant to believe?

My trip around Asda is like an episode of Supermarket Sweep tear days.

Flyonawalk · 13/09/2020 18:42

Another vote for the OP. Bravo for questioning and thinking.

wheresmymojo · 13/09/2020 18:44

@Flyonawalk

UK reports 5 (five) Covid deaths today. The ‘drama lama’ behaviour is presumably provoked by the lack of proportionate response.

This isn't a logical response.

You just lived through a period which showed you what exponential growth of this virus does and the 40k+ deaths that it brought even with a full lockdown which we can't afford to do again.

You are fully aware unless you are stupid that the measures in place today are nothing to do with the five people that died today and everything to do with avoiding another 40,000+ deaths.

I'm wondering if you're being deliberately obtuse or just plain stupid? Hmm

Again, another idiotic response.

They are COVID-19 cases, which you could confirm yourself with the smallest of google searches.

wheresmymojo · 13/09/2020 18:47

...and flu isn't a Coronavirus.

So basically you know less than the square root of fuck all but still comment like you know what you're talking about.

FFS.

This thread is really bringing out the numpties in the past 30 minutes.

Have QAnon got wind of it or something?

It's like a load of libertarian, not particularly intelligent flying monkeys have descended all of a sudden.

More IQ at a Tommy Robinson rally than the last 30 mins of this thread.

Actually both me and my husband lost our jobs so perhaps you shouldn't make assumptions.

This

Fosler · 13/09/2020 18:49

Currently more people are dying from flu and many other illnesses due to this government's actions, by not getting the treatment they should have had months ago.

If they fear a second wave why are the shutting down the Nightingale hospitals?

If this virus is more dangerous to certain sections of society then protect those sections and let the rest of us get back to normal.

Bearing in mind it is most dangerous to the frail, elderly and those with underlying health conditions, the very people most likely to have the flu vaccine...

wheresmymojo · 13/09/2020 18:49

@Fosler

Also, if the flu vaccine worked, bearing in mind it's been around for about 60 years, then it would have eradicated the flu.

It's not trying to eradicate the flu.

It protects vulnerable people for ONE flu season.

You literally have no clue what you're talking about.

wheresmymojo · 13/09/2020 18:50

@Fosler

Your lack of understanding of the topic at hand is embarrassing.

You may not have COVID but I diagnose you with a serious case of Dunning-Kruger syndrome.

Are they?

Pray tell, how many people died from the flu this year?

With sources please since you state it in a way that makes you sound as though you absolutely know this to be a fact...

Is this what we're calling thought? That's what dystopian about all this to me.
