Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

Just not sure if its worth coming up if nothing is open?

Was hoping to spend some cash to support the local economy.

We are due to drive up 4 weeks tomorrow:(

Bearfrills · 20/09/2020 21:06

Attractions are all still open but with covid restrictions in place.

Bearfrills · 20/09/2020 21:06

Shops and things are all open too Smile

Dementedswan · 20/09/2020 21:07

Everything is open at the moment. We are just not allowed to meet with anyone outside our household.

yoikes · 20/09/2020 21:08

Thank you.
I guess I'm just concerned about sudden changes/local lockdown at a later stage.
Not much I can do though!

Plussizejumpsuit · 20/09/2020 21:09

@Bearfrills mine doesn't get lunch breaks! Or should I say he doesn't take them. Anyway I was just feeling really arghh! About things. It is hard. I know he's stressed too. We do have a week off at the end of the month. I can't wait! It's our anniversary and his birthday so we normally have a bit of time off and go away. But not right now. Still some time at home will be nice. I know things could be so much worse do feel I shouldn't complain.

Plussizejumpsuit · 20/09/2020 21:10

@yoikes some museums are open too. As well as various visitor attractions.

yoikes · 20/09/2020 21:20

Hope they stay open!
🤞

Plussizejumpsuit · 20/09/2020 21:33

I feel that the spread seems to be seeing family and friends at close proximity. So I wonder if the government will try to keep shops and leisure venues open to reduce the impact on the economy. But I do think it makes it a hard sell for people. You can go to the pub but not see family. Where are you visiting? @yoikes

yoikes · 20/09/2020 21:37

Staying in alnwick

MissEWeatherwax · 20/09/2020 21:49

Where I live was dead yesterday, no families even sitting in gardens, but Dragonville the B&Q side was still busy late afternoon. I was fed up only went in 3 shops and my hands were so sticky.

RedCatBlueCat · 20/09/2020 21:59

@Someaddedsugar might be worth putting that petition in its own thread. I think the next swath of NW lock down also prohibits grandparental childcare.

Someaddedsugar · 20/09/2020 22:03

Will do @RedCatBlueCat - thanks for flagging!

PickAChew · 20/09/2020 22:16

I've left the house all of once, since Thursday, and that was a trip to the coop for some wine and bread! I need to head onto town, tomorrow, though, so will have to see what that's like.

It was already dead a week before lockdown, back in March.

Tequilamockinbird · 20/09/2020 22:57

Does anyone have a link to daily cases by town/area please?

clareykb · 20/09/2020 23:48

Yoikes we have been to Alnwick Gardens several times since it reopened and it's very safe if you pre book also lots of the national trust places that way are open atm and the beaches are lovely (probably colder but very nice!). Sure you would still find stuff to do..

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/09/2020 05:51

Tequila, this is tbe government page. You can click on where it says Newcastle and change to other areas or regions.

Scroll down to the green button at the bottom to see a postcode map, there's a 4 day lag.

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/09/2020 06:00

@Ellapaella I've remembered it's name now! Whittle Dene. Iirc you park in Ovingham and walk up to a field entrance.

Great area for scrambling up and down banks and trees. Not really cycle friendly!

Fruitbowlflowers · 21/09/2020 07:30

Our Morrison’s delivery arrived and the only things that they didn’t have was vanilla slices Shock

Someaddedsugar · 21/09/2020 07:42

If anyone has little ones who might need a bit of extra magic this Christmas, Polar Post are launching on Wednesday this week. Not an ad but just a comment from someone who's bought from them before!

PennyDreadfuI · 21/09/2020 08:16

Morning all! Hope everyone is ok. Or as ok as can be expected.

@clareykb is that Dobbies in Ponteland? Hopefully DD will be an elf there this year? She was at the Metrocentre last year and it made our Christmas!

@Someaddedsugar signed and shared on my Twitter and Facebook.

@Plussizejumpsuit feeling sorry for oneself is absolutely allowed! DH works in housing and while his hours aren't as long as your poor DH, he was pretty stressed and snowed under during the last lockdown. He's wfh so at least he's here, but the downside of that it is that so is all the stress he's under. He's lucky to have a job still and to be able to do it from home though, we keep that in mind, and he does love his job. But still. Knowing it's likely to all blow up again soon and possibly for longer is a worry.

It's my first Christmas up here this year - we only moved here in June from wales. Hoping not everything's cancelled as Christmas is my absolute fave time of year. You've all gotten me excited talking about it. What are all you 'must dos' around here for a lovely family Christmas? We have a one year old and another due mid November Smile

PennyDreadfuI · 21/09/2020 09:14

Blimey, look at South Tyneside

Fuzzy going to see Fenwicks window is a north east tradition. Fenwicks is in Northumberland street and early November they unveil their Christmas themed window displays. They really are amazing.

Tanfield railway is a lovely visit to Santa or the Stanhope railway (Formerly known as the polar express before they got into trouble for using the name).

The pantomime at the theatre royal with Danny & Clive Adams is a must but unfortunately cancelled this year due to Covid. Their shows are always amazing.

I'm from Wales too! I've lived here for almost 20 years. I'm from South Wales and the north east feels quite similar in many ways, to me anyway.

Don't know how many of our must-dos will still be doable this year, sadly. But Fenwick's Christmas department/window is a definite. We love a walk along the coast to see all the lights in people's houses - Whitley Bay to Tynemouth just as it's getting dark is lovely (or from Cullercoats if that's a bit long). Usually the carol services at the cathedral are a must-do too, but they're all off Sad
