Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

@Ellapaella have you any idea how Covid admissions are looking at the QE?

@PennyDreadfuI I'm off this week on leave but last week we had a few admissions, single figures. Not many but more than we've had in a while. It's hard to know exactly as I don't work in A&E so rely largely on hospital rumours. We have been told to get prepared for winter pressures though, I think the next few weeks we will know more about how this is going to pan out.

Willyoujustbequiet · 15/09/2020 22:02

Morpeth and Ashington schools now have confirmed cases

Word on the street is lockdown Friday

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 15/09/2020 22:05

Marking place.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 15/09/2020 22:13

Also waving at @StealthPolarBear and @juneybean

I'm a relatively long-time member of the mumsnet meet-up group in Durham. Other half is a GP in Gateshead; I work for Newcastle Uni. We are both braced for what's heading our way.

StealthPolarBear · 15/09/2020 22:34

Have I met you, multiple times now?

Quiero · 15/09/2020 23:06

Hello fellow Northerners. I am in North Tyneside and work in schools across the borough so keeping a close eye on things.

I wondered whether because we were few weeks behind in March we benefitted from lockdown in a way that he likes of London didn’t meaning our rate of immunity is lower going into a second wave?

juneybean · 16/09/2020 09:29

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum nice to see you! @StealthPolarBear you have met her many times!

I heard rumblings on a local lockdown from tomorrow in Sunderland.

PennyDreadfuI · 16/09/2020 17:46

Local lockdown from Friday. You were right, @Willyoujustbequiet!

The public transport thing will be absolutely awful for me, I don't drive and I have mobility issues (RA) so being without it again will be a nightmare. I've only used the bus/metro to bring shopping home, that surely still counts as essential?

The other stuff doesn't really affect me, but Flowers to all of you who it does affect.

What a pile of bollocky crap Sad

Also how will pubs, restaurants etc know whether you're from the same household or not?!

Yep!! Bonkers
clareykb · 16/09/2020 17:56

I was just going to say has anyone seen the chronicle article! It is very "may be this/may be that" but as someone who spent ages re organising DTS birthday party for this Sunday to be in 2 groups of 6 it is stressing me out.

KinYeSeeMeNoooo · 16/09/2020 17:57

@Plussizejumpsuit

Someone on the comments on the Chronical FB post mentioned it was from a councillors FB page.
KinYeSeeMeNoooo · 16/09/2020 17:58

Chronicle can't bloody spell today!

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/09/2020 17:59

@KinYeSeeMeNoooo I'm not finding it hard to believe I just don't like newspapers saying stuff without back up. I'm sure dhsc will confirm if it is the case soon enough

Jrobhatch29 · 16/09/2020 17:59

Ugh, just been reading that chronicle article. I feel like crying. I can cope with anything else but I can't cope not seeing my mam again

Shitfuckoh · 16/09/2020 18:07

Nothing else to say but a resigned 'Oh great' Sad

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/09/2020 18:10

I totally agree with you. It would be much better for all the facts to be published instead of the vague info that they have.

As much as I'm not surprised, it's a total shitshow.

Flowers

It's shit isn't it.

As I said apart from the public transport thing it won't really affect me personally, but it sort of does anyway, if that makes sense. Just knowing that this is happening and there's a need for it is bad enough. I've been feeling ok about everything for a few weeks but now I feel like I did in March/April again.

I wonder how long it'll be in force?

Yeah agree it's nice to talk to local people
Shitfuckoh · 16/09/2020 18:18

The public transport will affect us - I don't drive.
Also, my DC was looking forward to meeting his friend in the park this weekend to give him his birthday gift. How can I explain to him that actually you can't meet up with him now but you can go to school and be in a bubble of 90ish children but can't see any of them outside of it.

I understand WHY but now sure a 6 year old will understand - as much as I can tell him it's to help keep his school open Sad
