Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

@PennyDreadfuI

I'm off to the shops too - just the weekly food shop but I've a feeling it's going to be a bit manic. Last time I was in Asda Gosforth loads of stuff had sold out (pasta, canned goods, toilet roll) - I'm hoping it's because the students are coming back and stocking up and not because of panic buying but honestly, I think I'm kidding myself.

I wonder if we'll have to start queueing for supermarkets again? It was ok in the spring/early summer but it won't be much fun when the weather turns.

PennyDreadful I wss just in Sainsburys Heaton and it was great. Very quiet and had everything in, pasta, tins, toilet roll.

Well......actually they had sold out of Magnums Salted Caramel, which has now ruined my dayGrin

According to the BBC, Matt Hancock will be addressing Parliament at 11.30 am today on the lockdown measures for the North East.

Ranunculi · 17/09/2020 11:18

So you could go to work in Darlington, your colleagues could go out for lunch but you couldn't join them?
Yes I think that’s technically correct.

Gobacktothe90s · 17/09/2020 11:20

Can someone tell me if this is still legal
Single parent Manchester area created support bubble with partner Northumbria area.
Will this still be allowed for partner to visit Manchester under support bubble?
Manchester people are still allowed support bubbles but I'm unsure with this curb on travel they keep talking about

Hi everyone. I know many of you have probably already signed up but for those who haven't , please feel free.

A few weeks ago I started a local coronavirus email service.

Each day I compile the latest number of lab-confirmed, positive coronavirus cases across the country into a bitesize email – one for each district council in the UK – and deliver it to your inbox.

I'm an ex data analyst and programmers and I was just completely fed up with not being able to easily access up to date information about what was happening locally.

Over the last few weeks I've watched the situation in so many councils in the north east deteriorate - I hope you are all ok. It's really worrying times.

If it would help you in any way to receive coronavirus case numbers in your local council area every day, you are most welcome to sign up. www.covidmessenger.com.

Wishing everyone a safe few weeks ahead.

Joining in- North West Durham too. I was so happy to find this thread at such a worrying time.
I’m so worried about Dd1 (teenager) because she already had depression and anxiety and has struggled so much this year.
Announcement any time now.....

@Yamashita40

Nice to have a NE support thread. Does anyone know if kids activities like swimming and footie will be allowed to continue?

Only got my little one's first swimming lesson booked tonight and he's so excited.

I think it's classed as education but I'd check with the pool.

Hello fellow north-easterners! (Especially the curry-and-cocktail bunch - we should get together again sometime. Oh wait...)

I’m gutted about DD’s birthday, she was going to have one friend (who she sees every day at school!) over to do a downloaded escape room and now that’s all off. And my parents were going to visit - we haven’t seen them since Christmas. So rubbish 🙁 Actually I think I’m more angry than sad right now.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 17/09/2020 11:36

Signed up to @littleowl1 email service awhile back and it really is so helpful. Thank you for the kind wishes.

Sending everyone love and hoping you all stay safe and healthy (mentally and physically) What a absolute pain in the arse this year has been eh?

@littleowl1 thank you - just signed up. Will be useful to cut through all the figures and see what's relevant to me locally.

It's my sons 5th birthday next week too. We had planned a little tea party in the garden for family but that got scrapped when the rule of 6 came in. We are a family of 5 so could only have 1 visitor at a time... Now he can't see anyone at all. Its so depressing
PennyDreadfuI · 17/09/2020 11:46

Also... Where's our announcement? 11.30, I thought, but Rees-Mogg is blethering poshly on BBC Parliament. I've put off going to the shop because I want to know what's going on!
