Dance classes illegal from Monday?

DD goes to ballet classes and there are more than 6 pupils all from different schools. Term only started this week. Assuming they will have to close down again now? Or is Ballet a "team sport" as exempted from the new rules?

I think that it is education. Those ballet exams are accredited for ucas points. You can take dance GCCE. I think it qualifies.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/09/2020 13:49

Have to confess i waa wondering about that.

Dds Swimming and gym have not long re started...id hate fir it to close down again

SoCrimeaRiver · 09/09/2020 13:49

We were wondering about a martial arts club. I'd presume organised sports groups of whatever flavour are exempted.

Timeforabiscuit · 09/09/2020 13:50

DD was supposed to start back at a drama group, we are assuming it's a class it'll go ahead - but who knows!

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/09/2020 13:52

I was wondering about trampolining. No exams and not a team sport...

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 09/09/2020 13:52

I hate the way they make these announcements without specifying what they actually mean.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 09/09/2020 13:54

'organised' activities are already exempt and I'm pretty sure that will remain the case

boredorboard · 09/09/2020 13:55

So sad that all these activities are just starting up again and and may now have to stop.

I dont know what will happen but i do sort of think swimming should continue if it seems safe. At least for those who cant swim.
They could allow sport but not the drama/scouts etc.
Problem is the classes realy do mix schools. It would maybe be different if it was class bubbles.

Keepdistance · 09/09/2020 13:56

I suspect anything paid for may continue for a bit

ShoeJunkie · 09/09/2020 13:59

Just had confirmation from my dance teacher that classes are going ahead as planned starting next week. It is classed as a sport.

boredorboard · 09/09/2020 14:02

Certainly a sport but is it as "team sport"???

Eloundahigh · 09/09/2020 14:02

my sewing classes re started today. Seven plus teacher
We were told they can continue.

ginnybag · 09/09/2020 14:04

I've got this issue. I run a drama club.

We've been in for the last few weeks, (using masks, visors, distancing) etc, and have just (yesterday afternoon!) publicly committed to a performance later in the year to raise money for a couple of local charities. As it stands at the moment, I can hold Sunday's session, but I may not be able to hold anymore, and I may not know till Sunday night (looking at previous time scales) which it is.

WHY do they insist on making these announcements in such a disorganised way? Why aren't the rules available now? Or at least at the point of the briefing this afternoon?

Purplequalitystreet · 09/09/2020 14:07

I was wondering this about baby classes (as in a pre booked class, not a playgroup)

ginnybag · 09/09/2020 14:11

And this is another issue. Why is 'sport' okay, but other hobbies not? Dance might or might not be a sport (or an educational class, if they're taking the 'right' exams - not all exams are Accredited as educational)

ListeningQuietly · 09/09/2020 14:13

Apparently Justin Welby has said that Churches are not a social gathering

and anyway, we are all allowed to break specific bits of the law.
Northern Ireland Secretary said so yesterday Grin

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/09/2020 14:15

I dont know ginny

I mean a group/class is a group/class whether they are discussing books or running around a basketball court.

Any kind of group has a social aspect akd probably a mental well being aspect to it and being mentally and physically active /healthy can surely only help if you catch it.

And a book club will not being the ambulance requirements, drug taking akd general drunk akd disorderly issues that a pub would

Destinysdaughter · 09/09/2020 14:15

I was wondering whether adult Zumba classes run by adult education will be going ahead. It's a massive hall but the classes are about 25 pp. I was really looking forward to dancing again!

Carycy · 09/09/2020 14:17

I don’t see why they would cancel non team sports and not cancel team sports. I think the have specified team sports as they are acknowledging they can’t socially distance in them.

Witchend · 09/09/2020 14:20

I manage a place that has several of the above events. We're waiting for the 4pm announcement, but I'm expecting to be told they will be cancelled.

We've also been tipped the wink informally that we may well have a spot check as a place that's known to have groups like the above in.

HereForTheTinsel · 09/09/2020 14:21

I've just been speaking to my sister about this, we started hiring a private pool for the kids. When we next go there will be seven of us, me my husband and son and her, her husband and two daughters. Does this mean we can't go? It's as clear as mud? We're two households, I'm so confused.

shesgonebatshitagain · 09/09/2020 14:22

I am waiting to see too. Before I but more ballet shoes and two shoes that never get worn and then are too small 😬

shesgonebatshitagain · 09/09/2020 14:22

Tap shoes

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 09/09/2020 14:22

I work (sessionally) in adult ed. Ive assumed all thats going ahead as under the banner of education...they seem to follow dfe guidance.
