Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

So, what about kids afterschool clubs? So many questions, such little info.

It kind of does make me want to rush out and see my mum before the weekend. She is on her own, I have only seen her once since March.

SoManyActivities · 08/09/2020 22:41

This announcement has made me realise I had no idea what the rules were before! 😂

Pixxie7 · 08/09/2020 22:41

To be announced tomorrow only change now no gatherings of greater than 6.

Othering · 08/09/2020 22:41

@SallySeven

Wow to the Doncaster races.
Many wealthy individuals who privately bankroll government ministers own racehorses.

Uni students will not stop house parties, I have a 19 year old at uni. Nothing will change how they view things until a relative or friend is seriously affected

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 08/09/2020 22:41

So are 6 people from different households allowed to meet indoors now?

And do people from different households have to be 1m apart, in your home, and round the table at the pub?

It makes a kind of sense that they’ve done this - most people thought this was the rule anyway. Certainly it’s what pubs were working to.

Is the slogan really “Safe Six” or is that just the papers? Sounds like a condom advert

Benjispruce2 · 08/09/2020 22:41

But I can be squeezed into a classroom with 30 children and no mask! Hmm

SallySeven · 08/09/2020 22:41

I vote for the mango seed.

primabloodydonna · 08/09/2020 22:42

I won't be paying attention to it.

LoveNote · 08/09/2020 22:42

i predict half term coming a few weeks early

Violetparis · 08/09/2020 22:42

You can still play in sports teams if they are arranged by formal organisations.

colouringindoors · 08/09/2020 22:42

So me and my kids can't meet up with a friend and her kids because total is 7? I don't honestly know my family are going to get through winter like this.

ConiferGate · 08/09/2020 22:43

@RandomNameForRandomThreads Why on earth is racing always the one that's allowed?

Matt Hancock is MP for Newmarket and Dido Harding is (Was?) on the board of the hockey club. “She has also served on the board of Cheltenham Racecourse and is a jockey and racehorse owner.”

irregularegular · 08/09/2020 22:43

Bonkers. I’m teaching 30 per class, plus an occasional TA, plus random poppers in (head, head of department etc). Utter bonkers.

It's not bonkers. The purpose of greater restrictions elsewhere is to allow schools to stay open (among other things). Or at least it should be. Personally I think we should have kept pubs etc. closed to keep schools open for all kids.

ShellsAndSunrises · 08/09/2020 22:43

Or 6 people in each group in the pub etc?

6 in each group; with the usual required 2m and some kind of barrier where possible between groups.

I’m guessing the delay until Monday is to make the required law changes but it seems stupid, people will meet any bigger group before then now.

LesLavandes · 08/09/2020 22:43

Oh just shut up and listen and follow the rules.

Mass hysteria is not helpful

FraterculaArctica · 08/09/2020 22:44

The most important difference is that this is now law and breaches can be policed and fined. So will make people think twice before saying "I'm going to ignore it" (quite rightly).

Littlefiendsusan · 08/09/2020 22:44

How does this work when my dd's birthday party consists of the children in her school-year bubble 🤔

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 22:44

It is also illegal not to have more than 6, whereas before it was just guidance but illegal for over 30. So for those saying they are going to ignore it they are liable to a fine (also making this last longer)

monsterad · 08/09/2020 22:44

Agreed!

Of course having stricter rules elsewhere means there's more leeway for actual necessities like children's education!

IDSNeighbour · 08/09/2020 22:45

Looking at the BBC link, I think I'm better off than I was before?

I live on my own. I have no support bubble.

Before tonight, I could meet up to 5 other people outside from up to 5 other households but could only meet 1 person inside (or more than one if they were the same household).

Now it looks like I can meet up to 5 other people inside? Handy if it's true because it's getting chilly seeing friends now!

irregularegular · 08/09/2020 22:45

But I can be squeezed into a classroom with 30 children and no mask! hmm

The more restrictions are imposed (and the more people follow them) outside the classroom, the safer it will be for you inside the classroom.

wheres this hysteria you speak of then??
Adelais · 08/09/2020 22:45

My dd has just started back at dance class this week, are these types of activities going to have to stop again?

monsterad · 08/09/2020 22:45

If they're not in school, then you can have NO MORE THAN 6. Very clear
