Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

So we are thinking exercise classes are exempt? As it is work not socialising.

Waspnest · 09/09/2020 12:47

Probably a stupid question, I understand the ‘bank’ and that schools etc are a deficit, but how does seeing the same children outside school add to the deficit? If any have covid they would catch it when at school with same people surely?

In my (well my DD's) experience the school is pretty hot on trying to keep SD, wearing masks, no physical contact etc. Whereas groups of kids and their parents are less likely to be so strict.

ErinBrockovich · 09/09/2020 12:51

@daisypond Dance classes and studios are exempt- they are workplaces
Have you got the link? I’ve been looking for something like this.

lyralalala · 09/09/2020 13:35

Doncaster race course has been told in the last half hour that the rest of the weekend has to be behind closed doors

MayFayre · 09/09/2020 13:37

@Delatron

So we are thinking exercise classes are exempt? As it is work not socialising.
The lady who runs my exercise class said this morning ‘We can carry on because I’m covered by Sports England’. Throwaway comment on social media and I’d love to know what she means and if she’s right.
Keepdistance · 09/09/2020 13:51

That is not my experience of school.
Dc now on third desk. Not wiped between users
No masks
30 in year group bubble
Sharing pens and pencils
Sharing 1 toilet
No hand gel first thing. But some during the day. She also said not before lunch...

Dc2 60 bubble (yr r).
Playing with everything
Book bags in a box
Books home
No masks

So 100% different to at home or on walks etc with us. (Not that we wear masks but we havent been anywhere inside)
However i assume 90% are not hand gelling after kids being on playground with parents.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 09/09/2020 13:56

sports and community activities that are 'organised' in line with Covid-secure guidelines are exempt

but the govt (as ever) is not being very clear

Delatron · 09/09/2020 14:16

I run a Pilates class so I’m holding off the big class bookings yet. Need to clarify whether this is covered by the sport exemption.

Ellmau · 09/09/2020 14:32

It's all set out nicely on the BBC website: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51506729

lyralalala · 09/09/2020 14:42

There are some exceptions to the new rules. Households and support bubbles bigger than six can socialise together - but not with anyone else at the same time - and gatherings can be more than six if it is for work or education purposes.

Single adults can "bubble" with a household of any size

We can still bubble with SIL then (which is nice as her kids lived with us from March to July while she worked in ICU) when she's off. No other socialising at all.

We're meant to be going for a meal on Monday that's been cancelled by the restaurant. They've decided not to take any bookings for a table over 6 even if it's from the same household. I'm not too fussed as I didn't particularly want to eat out. Teens will be gutted though as it was a dinner out before they go away for uni.

Delatron · 09/09/2020 16:12

I think it’s the specification of ‘team sports’ that worries me. I guess a Pilates/ yoga class comes under work/ sport?

threatmatrix · 09/09/2020 18:04

It’s probably on all the channels. Jeez.

Jenny1951 · 09/09/2020 18:31

LBC - fantastic, talk radio station. Really erudite, questioning presenters. James O’Brian on from 10am, you can get it on any radio app.

Ginseng1 · 09/09/2020 19:06

@Lougle

I'm gutted, tbh. My family is 5 and my parents make 7. They are both in need of support. We're going to have to choose who stays behind when we visit.
Seriously???

This is my issue... A lot of us work from home so isn't home a workplace for some of us? Hmm clear as mud as per Boris!

Hereinthesticks · 09/09/2020 21:01

I think if it's an activity you pay for then it will be allowed otherwise the government will come under pressure to pay the wages of those who can't operate. That is why the pubs etc in Bolton can stay open but only serve takeaway. The government are trying hard not to create a situation where it has to say a business has to close because then there are people asking for more furlough or more grants.
Shame they spent all summer getting people to eat out (inside not takeaway) and enabling holidays and now the virus transmission rates and numbers are going up.

Floralbean · 09/09/2020 21:22

I honestly very much doubt they're going to order ram raids on properties for families visiting their parents if there's 1 extra person.

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 21:32

Support bubbles are exempt

amispeakingenglish · 09/09/2020 22:02

What I don't understand is who are the people thinking they are doing a good job? Who will vote for them again, everywhere all I see are all these great scathing comments, Polly Toynbee lead the way! On here, in the papers, when I talk to any customer service person, at the car boot, everywhere people say what a fucking shambles, cock up etc...... and it's going to get worse. So who voted for them, anyone own up? Who couldn't see what a total fucking selfish stuck up lazy bastard and the rest of the over entitled greedy shower, who couldn't see they would extend the gap between have and have nots, feather their own nests and look after their own....... I wish he had died of covid, if he ever really had it. No it's not a terrible thing to say, he has murdered 10000s of uk citizens. Does the rule of 6 apply to the cabinet? Or to people with over £1 million?

SallyB392 · 09/09/2020 22:20

Earlier this afternoon, whilst spitting and blustering Boris announced that Daffy, and Donald Duck are allowed to visit a household of 4, but Micky and Minnie Mouse can't, however if Peter Pan and Tinkerbell get married, up to 30 mates can meet up. And any o me can go to the public .

6 remains the key number, it I s to be put into British legislation to p prevent the spread of the virus, which won't visit schools or work places

Xenia · 09/09/2020 22:37

Also remember the regulations are not published and not law yet so we need to wait to see exactly how they are written to know the rules as that will be the law. I checked again tonight and they are not yet published.

sunseekin · 09/09/2020 22:43

“Or otherwise” - Boris leaving space for some other bit of nonsense that he’d not dreamt up / paid someone to dream up yet? 🤷‍♀️

LangClegsInSpace · 09/09/2020 23:12

Previous coronavirus regs have gone up the day before they come into force so, assuming they don't work weekends, I think we can expect these ones on Friday afternoon.

Onceuponatimethen · 10/09/2020 06:45

@LangClegsInSpace I am in contact with someone in one of the teams drafting this stuff and unfortunately for them they are working weekends and nights when they get any new rules ready!
