Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

There isn’t any detailed guidance yet.

I also want to know what will happen in pubs and restaurants.

Peaseblossom22 · 09/09/2020 07:57

@FlamingoAndJohn no it was 6 people from any number of households or more than 6 so long as they didn’t constitute more than 2 households . So two families of 4 would be ok even though that’s >6 , but 3 families of 3 would not be

ginberry4 · 09/09/2020 07:58

Question - how does this work in kids playgrounds? If I take my 2 kids there and there are already 4+ people in there does this mean we now can’t go in? Or is it ok because we aren’t in a group with those other people? After school our small village playground is full of kids who have spent all day together. Now wondering how this 6 person rule fits this situation?

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 09/09/2020 08:00

Can't remember the one I read thibk it was the local paper it said except for education and work.. So playgrounds OK. I guess.
The primary school near here is huge. People were crowded in and out of the gates even on the road. It was crazy when I went past.

Thunderpunt · 09/09/2020 08:02

@MarshaBradyo

Thanks Pease So if 4 friends want to meet up, from different households, can they?
I believe they can outside
DidSheReallySayThat20 · 09/09/2020 08:12

It said exemptions. Those with 6 in a household? at weekends we're 6 as dsd is here.. So in laws could still pop in? Bearing in mind they do the collect and drop offs for dsd school and bring her here..

If household 1 has 6 people and household 2 has 6 people... Does that mean their both exempt and could meet.. As that's crazy I'd those 12 could meet but a family of 4 can't meet a family of 3?

annabel85 · 09/09/2020 08:13

@ritzbiscuits

I bloody hate the Tories but welcome this change. I'm in a restricted North West area and there are big groups of teenagers in the park every day. If this allows the police more power to do something about it, then great.
The police have been unwilling to tackle big groups throughout. Easier to pick off people in 1's and 2's who might not be aware they're breaking guidelines, than tackling a a huge group of people who don't give a shit.

Let's see if the police actually enforce it.

On the news this morning Matt Hancock said that sort of situation (he talked about his family of five with two grandparents) wouldn’t count as an exception.

No the exemption is only if they're a single person household forming a bubble with yours.

PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2020 08:14

The households thing has been ditched-it is now only about the number of people-six maximum.

frumpety · 09/09/2020 08:15

The thing with the risk budget is , how is a family of four where one works in a school, two go to different schools and the other is working and commuting by public transport, less risky say than @primabloodydonna meeting with two households all of whom they are related to, where all the occupants wfh so are in contact with much much fewer people than the family scenario above ?

doadeer · 09/09/2020 08:15

Does this mean exercises classes will be limited to 6?
(Im asking as have a yoga business)

frumpety · 09/09/2020 08:17

Unless of course primadonna's mum is a secret raver ?

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/09/2020 08:18

I think so. It isn't an organised team sport

Neverendingcourgettes · 09/09/2020 08:19

What about school friends who are in the same bubble at school -can they meet-up now?

PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2020 08:20

It looks like the limit is six people so they could meet if that is maintained.

There’s no link between the situation at school and what they are allowed to do out of school.

Akire · 09/09/2020 08:22

Why don’t they just ban home visits? Family of 3 can met a different family of 3 every day of the week. Yet grandparents can’t visit a family of 6? The rules bear no relation to risk factors and amount of contact in groups.

PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2020 08:23

Why don’t they just ban home visits?

Because that’s quite an imposition with winter coming and meeting in the park not really going to be an option?

monsterad · 09/09/2020 08:29

What do we think will happen to ballet classes for toddlers?

avenueq · 09/09/2020 08:32

@monsterad and drama groups and other extracurricular...
I feel very depressed tbh

Akire · 09/09/2020 08:32

But that is what they have done to family over 6 isn’t it? The only person you can met is a single adult living alone who promises not to be part of anyone else’s bubble?

If you only know couples of families you can’t see anyone

monsterad · 09/09/2020 08:34

[quote avenueq]@monsterad and drama groups and other extracurricular...

The uncertainty is kind of why I haven't bothered rejoining anywhere. I know someone who's just paid for the whole ballet uniform. Mind you, could be part of the exemptions

Macramacious · 09/09/2020 08:39

When is the next announcement due?

ErinBrockovich · 09/09/2020 08:40

I’ll be reading the exemptions carefully when they are announced later today. As a small business owner this could signal the end for me.

I think this is the first step towards more restrictions and a much stricter lockdown coming back until the number of new cases fall again.

Let’s be honest, the number of positive cases being reported is the tip of the iceberg given that no one with symptoms can get a test. Tried yesterday for someone with symptoms I couldn’t get a test using:

  • 119 Call volumes so high they disconnect the call
  • Postal tests ran out before 9am
  • No walk in centres open
  • 3 nearest drive through centres between 30 and 169 miles away
  • No appointments for the next 5 days at the 3 nearest drive through centres

So there must be hundreds of people, if not more, with symptoms unable to get tested.

Lougle · 09/09/2020 08:41

When they say 'households over 6 are exempt', they just mean that you're allowed to be in your own house, or go out as a family. You're not allowed to meet with anyone else, unless you are in a bubble with a single person/lone parent family.
