Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

@Loonyloo87

This virus clearly wasn’t what we thought it was originally or it at least seems to be getting a lot weaker.

You must know more than the scientists who say they’re not certain about why the virus doesn’t seem to be making as many people severely ill. Could be due to mask wearing. Could social distancing. Could be because it’s mainly younger people. These are some ideas but they don’t seem to fully understand what’s going on yet. There’s no evidence that the actual virus is weaker.

Does sitting a couple of metres apart qualify as "covid safe" or has someone to check the air conditioning / ventilation?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:31

@primabloodydonna do you never go to the shops? No children?

Didkdt · 08/09/2020 23:32

I think schools should have a split day, almost a lecture on line and face to face tutorial session.

Wowthisisreal · 08/09/2020 23:33

@iVampire I know that Hmm

But the fact we are still living in a world where this can be done, when the infection rate is 'only' under 3000 per day and the law can be changed so easily, is still disappointing/shocking to me.

primabloodydonna · 08/09/2020 23:33

do you never go to the shops?

The majority of my shopping is delivered and if I ever go in for a top up I wear a mask, sanitise, and stay 2 metres away from others.

My DD is at home with us.

I'm not prepared to not see my family. I did it for four months and I'm not doing any more, end of conversation.

SallySeven · 08/09/2020 23:33

Young people as a rule don't get as ill. It may also be that we are all more resistant to a bad case in the summer.
The virus is not necessarily any weaker.

Gothamgirl1970 · 08/09/2020 23:33

Apparently COVID can identify friends hanging out so keep them safer by controlling numbers.

Workers needed to help revive the economy being packed on tubes and office buildings with up to hundreds of people all over each other are expendable. And announce it at 10:30pm so lots of people miss it.

Quite.

@LesLavandes

Who regularly has 30 people in their house?
Exactly. I don't really have to try too hard to not have mass parties every bloody pissing night.
VaggieMight · 08/09/2020 23:34

@ineedaholidaynow
I completely agree with you. The point I was making, probably not very clearly, is that people shouldn't follow the rules set out by the government blindly and should instead think about how they can minimise risk given we're in a global pandemic.

Wowthisisreal · 08/09/2020 23:34

@ineedaholidaynow where is the 10+ rule from? Confused

Rosehip10 · 08/09/2020 23:35

@primabloodydonna Selfish. Hope you get arrested and fined.

primabloodydonna · 08/09/2020 23:35

Won't happen, but if it does they can have the measly hundred quid. 👍

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:36

A child aged over 10 has criminal responsibility, so I assume a group of over 10s could get fined

Jungfraujoch · 08/09/2020 23:36

Those of you saying you’re just going to carry on ignoring the guidelines/rules are selfish, self-absorbed and disrespectful of everyone else.

Get it in your tiny minds that the best way to lessen the virus currently is to minimise contact - yes education is vital as is keeping the economy going but if everyone did their bit with social distancing/hand washing/mask wearing/not bending the rules to suit themselves - we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Carycy · 08/09/2020 23:36

So under the new rules we basically can’t meet anyone as we are a family of 5. So can only meet one other person. Is that right??!?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:37

@Carycy yes, if you meet up all together

primabloodydonna · 08/09/2020 23:37

But I can go to work, teach in a school, go to a pub and go to a wedding, yes? Righto.

primabloodydonna · 08/09/2020 23:38

Those of up who grew up in countries where the government tells you when you can and can't blow your nose value our freedom more than anything else.

ChicCroissant · 08/09/2020 23:38

Would probably take at least 7 people to block the Government's current plans to break international law Grin

If the enforcement isn't going to start until Monday, why announce it at 10.30pm on a Tuesday night? It would be nice to have a Government who managed to look statesmanlike while making the difficult decisions rather than a three-ring circus that doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow, FFS!

Let me have your address. I need a "measly" hundred quid.

And I havent seen my parents closer than about 5 metres since March, not even on my mothers 70th. And am probably going to lose my job when the pubs close again.

So yeah, chuck a measly £100 my way please.

MiddlesexGirl · 08/09/2020 23:40

Young people.
