Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

Anyway the genie is out the bag, teens do care and don't care like everyone else, some staff think it's pointless some wash hands and wear masks.sd is pretty much over, people do mostly wear masks in shops and gel.

"Ah bother, so a family of 5 can’t meet the grandparents (a couple) then?"

So does the 2 house holds only indoors still stand I presume?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:20

@Loonyloo87 because you are more likely to hug and get close to family and friends. Cinema, restaurant, pubs etc you are meant to SD. I assume if this doesn't work pubs will be the thing that goes next, or they will get stricter with pubs which are flouting the guidance and not adhering to SD.

PyongyangKipperbang · 08/09/2020 23:20

I think the reason that they are focussing on households is because there have been so many house parties/raves etc that have become outbreak central.

I think it is without a doubt that pubs will follow soon, but at the moment they are trying limit the damage that uni students (especially Freshers, lets face it) will do in the next month.

And I say this as the mother of a Fresher who is moving on Saturday.

SockYarn · 08/09/2020 23:20

Total waste of time.

Same as Scotland - although all of Glasgow is banned from having any social gatherings inside at all. The idiots who have hot tub parties, raves in rented houses or 250 people around for a party are going to just carry on doing what they're doing. Because they don't care what the law says, aren't scared of the police and don't mind the threat of a fine.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:21

@Jungfraujoch only if the 2 households don't mean more than 6 people in total, including children.

Loonyloo87 · 08/09/2020 23:21

It may be law now, but seriously how will it be enforced? I see a lot of people breaking it so surely it’s just too much for the police to cope with. Not to mention the fact that people can easily lie/say they’re all from the same household (6+ household)

primabloodydonna · 08/09/2020 23:22

I really couldn't care less if something is against the law, I've done plenty of things which are against the law.

VaggieMight · 08/09/2020 23:22

I'm surprised at how many comments talk about the rules and about abiding by them or not. From the beginning the government have been one step behind. I don't think that's going to change.

There's a global pandemic of a highly infectious disease. It might kill you. It might not. You might pass on to someone unknowingly. You might not. I don't understand why people aren't just trying to minimise the risk. Just minimise it.

Jungfraujoch · 08/09/2020 23:22

Ineedaholidaynow. Thank you.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:23

@primabloodydonna well aren't you great

cantkeepawayforever · 08/09/2020 23:23

Amen to that!

We have been discussing this tonight at work.

We can have 24 people, all booking seperately as a 6 person booking "oh only 2 households" and then congregating in the restaurant. What do we do?! We chuck them out, we lose our jobs as my boss has made clear. Illegal yes, but prove it. We cant.

Let them come in and try to stop them going to each others tables, come to the bar, gather in a mass outside to smoke? Then we call the police who dont come.....

Its another piece of "guidance" that has no back up for those of us on the front line in hospitality to use.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:24

@VaggieMight especially as it is not just about you, the more you mix the more likely you are to expose more people to a risk of infection

Surely you can have as many children at the meet up as you like as there is little evidence that they spread it?

How many inconsistencies?

cantkeepawayforever · 08/09/2020 23:25

I just think it is a really sad reflection on our society that we need a law to get us to do what should be common sense - and that so many people are saying that they will do whatever they want anyway, simply because they are bored of having to even vaguely consider what might be the sensible thing to do..

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 08/09/2020 23:25

I’m more appalled that the second poster didn’t know what LBC is than about the announcement at 22.30 (which, let’s face it, is just standard for this government now). What do you DO all day? I flick constantly between LBC and Radio 4, depending on how clever I’m feeling/how much I want to shout at cabbies from Essex ringing in with conspiracy theories.

FlamingoAndJohn · 08/09/2020 23:25

Why they were pushing the let's get back to the office is beyond me.

Because if you go to work in the office you are spending money on transport and lunch. Also your company are less likely to decide that you can work from home permanently and therefore stop renting the office.
It’s just to make money, nothing to do with health.

amieejust · 08/09/2020 23:28

This is a slippery slope to pubs and restaurants closing, schools going part time or closing, gyms closing...

Mental health crisis like no other is on its way, in fact it's already started.

ktp100 · 08/09/2020 23:28

No more than 30 people BUT it's perfectly safe for schools to be back and get your lazy butts back into the office. THEY are totally SAFE!!

Unbe-freakin-lievable.

Jungfraujoch · 08/09/2020 23:28

Ineedaholidaynow Just read in The Sun says the 2 household rule is ditched. Will just be 6 people max.

Yes, fancy people not knowing a London radio station.
ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:28

@FlamingoAndJohn offices should be COVID safe, but yes it is about money too.

No idea what LBC is but then I have been out at work all day.
