Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

@manicinsomniac

If you've been following the guidance this is a non story.

If you've been following the law then yeah, it's a bit of a shock.

But it isn’t quite the same- you can currently have more than 6 people if you are in 2 households so my household of 4 people have been meeting my Dad’s household of 4 people. We can no longer do that.
cantkeepawayforever · 08/09/2020 23:10

@Viviennemary

It would be nice to know what last week's rules were. Never mind next week's. What a fiasco.
The rules on how many people you can meet inside and outside has been the same for a long time, and is regularly published on the BBC and elsewhere.

I have heard 'Oh, I don't know what is allowed' frequently from people who don't WANT to know, and claim ignorance as an excuse for doing whatever they want... I haven't heard it from anyone who has the slightest interest in following the guidance....

MissPoldark · 08/09/2020 23:10

This announcement has made me realise I had no idea what the rules were before! 😂

hilariousHmm you must be proud of your ignorance

Loonyloo87 · 08/09/2020 23:10

I just don’t understand why we have to contain the virus at all? If the death rate is truly as low as they say it is (even lower than seasonal flu) then why all this? Honest question- not being argumentative :-)

I get that there’s the whole “you could spread it to someone vulnerable who could be seriously ill with it” but you could say the same for ANY illness even the common cold. People’s livelihoods (including mine so that’s why I’m a little bitter) have been wrecked and there’s a thread on here with so many posters talking about how they’ve lost people to other conditions which weren’t getting medical attention due to covid restrictions.

It sounds awful awful awful to say but for the sake of a virus which has killed 10 people last week....why is it worth destroying lives and the economy?

Vinoonasunnyday · 08/09/2020 23:10

Green grass

Not sure what u meant but I mean that my kids have been meeting their friends outside all summer, are now in school all day with them etc so I will absolutely not be limiting them outside regardless or any rule

Not happening

No way

iVampire · 08/09/2020 23:11
@greengreengrass14 I agree with you. The fact a 'law' can just be passed like that at 10:30 at night is just shocking.
??

The law was passed back in March

MJMG2015 · 08/09/2020 23:11

@primabloodydonna

I won't be paying attention to it.
What do you think makes you so special?
JellyBabiesSaveLives · 08/09/2020 23:11

Ah bother, so a family of 5 can’t meet the grandparents (a couple) then?

And I hope “out of school settings” are exempt - Scouts have been working towards the guidelines of 15 in a group.

lyralalala · 08/09/2020 23:12

@iVampire And what form of proof they’ll need of cohabitation - I can just imagine the reaction from the police if they ask each for name and address - surely cops would think they were taking the puss and it could take ages to unscramble

Before he decided to come home DS and his housemates were carrying a photo of their tenancy agreement, with all their names on, on their phones just in case.

@LoveNote It was highly amusing. He had a hi-vis vest and a clipboard and was stood by the park all day monitoring how often people were coming out and for how long... Right up until the point the community bobby pointed out that he wasn't exercising or food shopping (what he was telling people they were "allowed" to do) so should he really be there Grin

janetmendoza · 08/09/2020 23:13

So only 6 people together unless you are a household of more than 6. In which case you can meet as a household and go out as a household, but not with anyone else unless the household is bubbling with one other single person. So a household of 6 could bubble with elderly Mum.

sugarlakesville · 08/09/2020 23:13

Bring it on.

sussexman · 08/09/2020 23:14

@Loonyloo87

It's what happens next that is the concern. This is the death rate by date of death (not announcement date) since the Bank Holiday. We've seen cases rising significantly for about 6 weeks, we must be concerned about what happens next.

@TheSeedsOfADream

Here is a blow dried mango stone that looks like Boris. I'm sending it to London to run the country. Is that OK with everyone?
Perfect. Thanks for thinking of us.
ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 23:15

@Vinoonasunnyday if they are aged over 10 they would be breaking the law if there are more than 6 of them.

MyPersona · 08/09/2020 23:15

I saw Matt Hancock had come out to say that groups of 20/30 year olds socialising is the reason that the numbers had risen. Nothing to do with your fucking useless governments eat out to help out scheme then, no? Infuriating.

Well no because if you eat out you should be sticking to the rules. I’ve been out tonight and all the staff were masked, the tables were well spaced out with Perspex screens between them and all the doors were open. We had to book and because we are responsible we gave correct contact details. Should the worse happen and we get contacted, we will comply with whatever testing and quarantine measures are required. None of this is in any way comparable to a large group of 20s cramming into a bar and getting pissed up together with no SD in place.

Howslifenow · 08/09/2020 23:15

Thank God schools are kept opened. Luckily there are no gatherings of parents, kids and staff in school.

Splendidseptember · 08/09/2020 23:16

'' October half term coach trips, to Barnard Castle '' 99£ special each way, to test eye sight... Aka the only holidays allowed in October.

Schools and colleges cannot social distance.
They are in '' bubbles '' of hundreds.
Teachers are totally exposed, we're clinging to the idea of bubbles as a saviour from covid but it's ridiculous. How can the bubble save you from 30 pupils breathing at you and each other from all over and each one from a different household!!

30 and more different households meeting

turnthebiglightoff · 08/09/2020 23:16

None of this bodes well for Christmas. What a giant shit show it really all has been. Can we crowdfund for a reward of £10mil to whoever comes up with a vaccine?

Bettyboop89 · 08/09/2020 23:16

Oh that means our playgroup we were hoping would go ahead won’t be able to now. We were getting the risk assessment sorted too Sad

cantkeepawayforever · 08/09/2020 23:17

@Howslifenow

Thank God schools are kept opened. Luckily there are no gatherings of parents, kids and staff in school.
That's the point. That is a HUGE dent in our risk budget as a society. If we are not to 'go overdrawn' - and return to the vuirus being out of control, with the r already well above 1 - we HAVE to keep risks as small as we can elsewhere.
greengreengrass14 · 08/09/2020 23:17

tomorrow morning I will check out liberty the human rights organisation plus clear news on fact check sites

At the mo I'm trying to sleep and got Western blessed power distribution blasting through the window with floodlights. So can't really.

Not thinking straight. So sorry if not posting lucidly will checkin tomoz. ggg

Loonyloo87 · 08/09/2020 23:17

Don't meet up with more than 6 people, unless its for work. Or school. Or a wedding. Or the house bubble is more than 6. Cinema is fine and pubs and restaurants are fine. You can go abroad and sit on a plane with 200 odd people too. But you must not sit in the garden with more than 5 other family/friends!!

turnthebiglightoff · 08/09/2020 23:17

It's only 15p each ish if everyone put in.

SebastianTheCrab · 08/09/2020 23:18

@Lockdownseperation

I’m predicting no socialising inside unless it’s Pret, a restaurant or a pub. Groups of 100 allowed to meet in Pret.

I laughed out loud Grin

Vinoonasunnyday · 08/09/2020 23:18

Ineedaholiday

I get that but the kids near me mix in groups of 20-30 on a daily basis - all outside

I haven’t seen a police officer in my town for literally months, they’ve fined about 30 people in England since lockdown began

They really don’t care
