Im listening to LBC radio and they have just said there will be a live government announcement on LBC at 10.30 tonight that will affect households. I am confused why would this be on LBC at that time, if they know the announcement they are going to make, why not make it earlier?

@ineedaholidaynow

This is the sort of time they usually publish Schools guidance!
Only on Fridays or bank holiday weekends.

National lockdown 2 is on the way

lyralalala · 08/09/2020 23:00

@LoveNote During the main lockdown we had SIL's kids living here (she works in ICU and didn't see them during that time). We went from being a household of 9 to a household of 12.

One neighbour reported "an illegal gathering" five times when the kids were playing in the garden before he was told to pack it in.

He also complained a lot about me taking two walks a day - he soon stopped that moan when I took all of the kids out at once Grin

manicinsomniac · 08/09/2020 23:01

If you've been following the guidance this is a non story.

If you've been following the law then yeah, it's a bit of a shock.

PinkMacaron · 08/09/2020 23:01

Thanks but my post might have been slightly tongue in cheek.......

YummyJamDoughnut · 08/09/2020 23:01

Introducing this new rule is silly and totally unenforceable. Surely it doesn’t matter how many people catch covid? What matters is the amount of people being hospitalised with it or dying

I agree it's stupid and unenforceable and quite possibly pointless. But, the more people who catch it, the more people who might well end up hospitalised or dying. Quite simply, if the spread can be contained, so can the deaths.

I have not really been following the news much, but I think I saw something tonight saying that hospitals in Europe are beginning to see more cases now.

sussexman · 08/09/2020 23:02

Not many people, but people do have picnics, play sports (I think Parkrun was due to restart for eg) arrange fundraising events etc.

MrsTravers · 08/09/2020 23:02

Someone mentioned upthread that there was an exemption for households of 6+. Any idea how that works?

Because otherwise we can only see other people if one of us goes out (not sure if hiding in the bathroom is permissible...).

shinynewapple2020 · 08/09/2020 23:02

Are you being deliberately awkward or just plain stupid. A person is a person regardless of whether they are 100 hours or a 100 years old and whether they are your husband or you aunties, girlfriends, sisters, catsitter.
Sorry my previous post was to @StatisticalSense in response to this

Vinoonasunnyday · 08/09/2020 23:04

This won’t make any difference

People who are relaxed won’t care anyway

It’s non news

Most thought it was 6 anyway and still went over that number. Now people are working and in schools it’s a waste of time

I for one will continue to give kids free reign with their class mates as I’m sure most will.

There will 100% not be a full lockdown as people won’t comply - no way.

TwoFourSixOne · 08/09/2020 23:04

My daughter sent me a snapchat of the corridors at school today. Rammed like sardines, pushing and shoving each other, linked arms, packed stairwells

I had a phone call to tell me my son was involved in a “covid” incident because he was caught in a mass bundle on the field involving 10-15 boys all jumping on each other in a huge pile Hmm. He also played football at the weekend and spent 60 mins in close contact with 20 other boys all sweating/tackling/breathing all over each other.

Schools are a breeding ground, no getting around it

Wowthisisreal · 08/09/2020 23:04

@greengreengrass14 I agree with you. The fact a 'law' can just be passed like that at 10:30 at night is just shocking.

greengreengrass14 · 08/09/2020 23:05

yes lovely lovenote we KNOW.

DD year 11 of course we know that and are prepared for lockdown.
and home schooling (AGAIN

iVampire · 08/09/2020 23:05
**@BilberryBaggins* It doesn't count when your household is 6+, they are exempt from this rule.*

I know that. My point was about someone locally who just doesn't get it and has reported my household multiple times, and no doubt now will again.
DS has just moved in to a student house where there will be 7 of them living

I wonder how many time’s they’ll be reported if they all go out together?

And what form of proof they’ll need of cohabitation - I can just imagine the reaction from the police if they ask each for name and address - surely cops would think they were taking the puss and it could take ages to unscramble

@lyralalala what fun he sounds!!

honeygirlz · 08/09/2020 23:05

@SoManyActivities

This announcement has made me realise I had no idea what the rules were before! 😂
Me too!
Wolke · 08/09/2020 23:05

Well at least now they might see that schools, workplaces and restaurants really aren't magically protected from the virus.

LesLavandes · 08/09/2020 23:05

What do you suggest for containing the virus?

Polkasquare · 08/09/2020 23:06

@Viviennemary

It would be nice to know what last week's rules were. Never mind next week's. What a fiasco.
They have been on the government's website all along.
Yellowbutterfly1 · 08/09/2020 23:07

I commented on another thread earlier, about the article In the daily mail about the number of deaths reported today, and how it is the highest number since the end of June.
A lot more of people were commenting that the sudden rise was very convenient as it was right before a review of the coronavirus act.
All these comments were suddenly deleted.

A couple of responses said it was due to trolls from other countries, now I’m not so sure.

greengreengrass14 · 08/09/2020 23:07

VSD

What does this mean?with any regulartions?

Quote from you

@MrsTravers

It says the exemptions include a household or support bubble of more than six or a gathering for work or education. so will be interesting to see if that means we can meet with one other household or just means that we could go for a meal or to the park as a group of 9 as we are a household of 9.
sugarlakesville · 08/09/2020 23:07

It's not going to be a problem we are allowed to meet in any size group as long as it's in Barnard Castle.

MissPoldark · 08/09/2020 23:08

I’m not sure what’s changing in terms of private households.
Under the current guidance, only 2 households can meet indoors. 6 people can meet from different households outdoors.

Will 2 large families no longer be able to meet if there is more than 6 in total? It didn’t seem very clear whether they were still exempt. Guess full guidance is still to be published.

jewel1968 · 08/09/2020 23:08

Does anyone actually follow the rules (even if they understood them) anymore? I don't think there is much social distancing anymore. Mask wearing is pretty good because it is so visible if you don't wear one.

I was walking the streets today around the time kids were coming home from school and there were large groups (30 or so) getting off the bus and hanging about. Even if schools are doing what they can to encourage bubbles that all goes out the window on the way home from school.

The contradictory nature of the rules confuses and annoys people so they won't comply.

LesLavandes · 08/09/2020 23:08

Perhaps some sort of military state will ins-till the rules into people who ha e admitted on here, they don't know them. Then we can all be clear
