Until he has a Covid test. No tests available in Scotland currently! His temperature was 37.8.

Just keep trying the website. It refreshes with new options every so often. Which area of Scotland are you?

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 14:37

did they take his temperature?

Glitterandmud · 08/09/2020 14:38

Dd had a test in Scotland today, there are plenty available where we are and in the further away test centres it shows on the website. Could you get a home test?

Cakestandkitchen · 08/09/2020 14:38

Thank you. We are in Fife. Can’t get drive through or home test or walk in.

Will keep refreshing and hope something pops up. I am right in saying neither DH or I can go to work either?

OP posts:
Cakestandkitchen · 08/09/2020 14:39

They checked his temperature twice at school and both were raised.

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 08/09/2020 14:39

Assume you all have to self isolate

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 14:40

Have you taken his temperature just to double check?

Cakestandkitchen · 08/09/2020 14:45

Yes. My thermometer is showing 36.3. It’s school policy that kids aren’t allowed back unless they’ve been tested.

OP posts:
Cakestandkitchen · 08/09/2020 14:46

Glitter, would you be willing to pm me your area?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 14:53

mayne they have a dodgy thermometer or he had been running about before the test

chinateapot · 08/09/2020 14:54

Sorry. This is rubbish isn’t it? But yes you all need to self isolate until negative test back. Keep checking the website!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4017419-Just-back-to-school-Now-home-Not-tests-available

This thread has a lot of useful tips on how to get a test if you get past all the muppets who didn’t RTFT.

After a lot of refreshing I have managed to get a postal test but I’m in England. My DD can also not go to school until a negative test as she has a slight temperature. PITA.

ErinBrockovich · 08/09/2020 15:06

And yes, as a household we all have to isolate until the negative test result, which means that my younger child can’t go to nursery and no one can go to work.

Bumlooksbig · 08/09/2020 15:07

I am in Fife. There is a new testing facility in Dunfermline (Leys Car Park) opened this week and it is empty. Keep trying!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/09/2020 15:08

Hang on, I thought you needed more than just a slightly raised temp for a test?

I thought Jason Leitch said it had to be high temp - which I took to mean >38C?

We had an email from school last week saying "high temp" and "no need for test if runny nose".

m0therofdragons · 08/09/2020 15:11

Temp has to be above 38 for a test. Dd had one last week.

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 15:11

Its 37.8⁰C for the purposes of covid. But OP says his temperature is normal at home. Its all a bit shit really. Are they taking everyone's temperature?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/09/2020 15:14

If DC doesn't meet the criteria he doesn't need a test. I don't think that school are right, here. We were told kids have to stay off for 48 hours after any raised temp (Edinburgh) but to follow CMOs guidelines for tests.

This is going to be a problem, we won't have tests for people who do have covid symptoms.

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 15:17

is it a forehead type thermometer they used? Had he been running about beforehand? Take his temperature again and if its normal ring the school

EDSGFC · 08/09/2020 15:18

Temperature for purposes of Covid is 37.8 and above

MNOverinvestor · 08/09/2020 15:21

How close are you to St Andrews OP? This is a walk-in centre and apparently you don't need a referral...

LyraBelaqua · 08/09/2020 15:21

Definitely keep trying. I spent all morning trying to book a test and surprisingly Fife was offered to me in spite of living over 400 miles away. I got one locally eventually. Good luck.

MNOverinvestor · 08/09/2020 15:24

But calling it on 0300 303 2713 is probably advisable in case it hasn't opened - there's also this... www.gov.scot/news/increasing-capacity-and-accessibility-of-testing/

StatisticalSense · 08/09/2020 15:24

@dementedpixie
Yes, it's about time that non-contact forehead thermometers were banned as many of the readings that they are giving are pure nonsense. The two at work, that are located next to each other and the second being used if the reading from the first is too high, seems to alternate between saying everyone has hypothermia and saying just about everyone has a severe temperature (including on more than one occasion the same person coming out as 38.5 on one immediately followed by 34.2 on the other).

emmathedilemma · 08/09/2020 15:43

I read on a local facebook group (in Scotland but note Fife) that they upload new appointments at 9am and 5pm daily. Not sure how true it is but worth being online at 5 just in case!
