Makes "safe to open" look a bit silly.

The thing is, every time someone points out a flaw in your argument about X you say, "but I wasn't talking about X, it was really Y I was talking about. Don't you think that is just a little bit daft?

picklemewalnuts · 26/08/2020 11:20

There doesn't need to be much of it about for it to get into schools. It's the opposite of a bubble. It's a place where people mix in close contact for extended periods of time, regardless of where they live who they know or where they work. They are truly intersectional and truly exchange hotbeds.
If there is a CV case in the area, it will go through the school. Only people who see noone have no connection to schools.

Must be great to be so superior and tell other people theyre daft. Not my kind of person. Happy to debate but if people have different opinions and try to force them on other people using insults it just makes them look silly in the end. By all means ask and I will try and clarify. I am very clear in what im saying and have been. I trust my school. I trust my kids to be sensible. Infection rates are greatly reduced and low in community. There will be closures but with advanced treatments, lower viral load etc (hopefully) the effect of these on any outbreaks will help and less people will become seriously ill. If that isnt clear Im happy to discuss it but please leave the insults out, I can do without them.

"tell other people theyre daft"

No one said you were daft - it was about your deflection of points.

Some of the points you have made are that.

Pub workers and supermarket workers should be entitled to the protections that teachers are getting but you must know that in those scenarios everyone has to wear masks and or social distancing neither of which teachers get for most of the day.

That teachers are more likely to get covid at the supermarket than school. I'm not sure what this is based on.

Kids don't transmit the virus. The risk go disagrees with you.

No one at an outbreak gas died so it doesn't matter. It is well established that it can take a month for someone to die of covid and the odds are low for most people of working age so statistically that is unlikely to happen in an outbreak of 22 people. However if people keep getting infected is only a matter of time until someone does or if they are vulnerable. According to you people in this category should don't resign.

We have to wait for the virus to mutate to a safer form. This is only one step up from trump's " the virus will disappear" comments.

It is hard not to conclude your aim is to antagonise people worried for the safety of their colleagues or vulnerable family members!

So "Oh dont be daft" wasnt calling me daft? OK whatever. I will stick to the positive thread where people look at the facts and stats and try and find positives. Leaving the toxicity right here. There should be a "negatives about Covid" and the doom mongers could just post on that. "We're all doooooomed". Have a nice day.

Not much of a debate was it? And if you are sticking to the facts thread I am amazed that you keep coming up with so many inaccurate and patently false statements.

EducatingArti · 26/08/2020 13:37

Palace. I'm sorry for saying 'Oh don't be daft'. It has obviously upset you. I said it in the same spirit I might have said "oh do give over" to someone.
I apologise. It is your method of deflecting points that I found frustrating and rather ridiculous.

Walksen, I think that the poster is not referring to the 'data' thread, but to the 'only look at the positive news' thread, which gives a much more partial view.

I read the data thread, schools threads and the positive thread, just to get a range of world views.........

walksen · 26/08/2020 14:42

Ah I see. I've always found the data thread the most useful. Lots of useful discussions and knowledgeable posters ( from both sides) with none of the drama of the others

TaxTheRatFarms · 26/08/2020 16:06

I know everyone else has wandered off to seethe elsewhere so I’m probably talking to myself. However! At this point, it’s kind of academic how deadly this virus is.

The government guidance in schools is for bubbles to isolate if there are a certain number of cases. Not deaths or serious illnesses, just infections.

Which means even if the virus is not “deadly” it is a pain in the arse as it causes potential school closures.

If it does seem to be becoming weaker that’s great news - however right now it still means we’re stuck in the cycle of infections = closures = disruption for students and parents.

The sensible thing would seem to be to do everything possible to keep the number of infections low within a school, so it doesn’t trigger closures. It’s not necessarily about deaths and severe illness, is it. It’s about controlling the disruption that the virus can cause under the current guidance.

"Schools Can Reopen, Germany Finds, but Expect a ‘Roller Coaster’

With nations determined to return to in-person learning, many will have trouble matching Germany’s formula: fast and free testing, robust contact tracing and low community spread."
