to have run out of sympathy for people who find masks 'uncomfortable'?

It might be because I'm out of tolerance for a lot of things at the moment but I've had enough of the 'but my face gets hot' and 'couldn't possibly wear one for 2 ours straight' brigade.

Barring medical exemptions, I think people just need to suck it up.

I wore an FFP3 mask at work day in day out for hours at a time for years. Yes, it's weird at first and it gives you spots and makes your eyes dry and sometimes your lips dry, but your body will adapt if you keep at it. (honestly, be glad it's not a rubber half mask or a powered respirator, both of which I've also had to wear all day for years and are grim/loud respectively)

If your glasses are fogging or it doesn't fit right try a different type - there are lots available. Mouldable nose strips really help with the specs.

You will need to speak very clearly when you talk so you can hear each other (I know it's shit if you have hearing loss - that is a situation I still have sympathy for).

Honestly, get one/a style that fits you properly, and get on with it, you'll get used to it. It really isn't that bad, and will save lives!

So... YANBU = people need to mask up and get over it
YABU = masks are the worst and comfort is more important

I hate them. I'm asthmatic and can confirm it makes absolutely no difference to my breathing (apart from if I need my inhaler).
I just hate it, but as long as I follow the rules, why does it matter what I think about it?
Apart from essential shopping, I won't go.
Amazon and eBay sellers are doing well from this though.

It seems high compliance with mask wearing where we are too, and most wearing them properly
Covering their mouth and nose as well.

It's only when they come outdoors I see people dropping their mask down, or removing it - both are perfectly fine to do so long as done carefully and without touching the front of the mask or your face, and using anti bac if not washing hands before too.

I would say 98% of people wearing masks when I have been out and about, so good compliance. I comply as well, but I hate them. Was in a queue at Hampton Court last week in 28c heat, had to leave and go outside as I was about to faint, OP, some people DO find it difficult, including me. Working in a air conditioned environment like a hospital or an office helps, winter will be a lot easier, but I admit I am really struggling in the heat.

As for anti-mask wearers being the same as anti-vaxxers. They are not comparable at all. Lots and lots of scientific peer reviewed studies over many years on effectiveness of vaccines, and very little to none about the effectiveness of mask wearing.

There are always people who can’t be vaccinated and rely on herd immunity.

Masks is similar.

But very few people understand re masks. I’ve been very aggressively challenged and it’s incredibly upsetting and dehumanising.

So it’s not good enough to simply wear the mask, you must like the mask too.

Right. We’re all ‘guidelined’ up to our eyeballs for the greater good at the moment, let’s leave the thoughts and feelings police please for at least a more interesting dystopia than this one.

I've never had any sympathy. The sheer amount of people pulling the "it's not comfortable" card need to toughen up. No it's not comfortable, but you have to do it to help keep yourself and others as safe as possible.

YABNU OP.
You would have thought people were being asked to donate a kidney not just wear a face mask.
If people find them weird they can practise wearing at home for a few minutes and then building up their time.
Anti maskers have a lot in common with anti vaxxers.

100% this.

I have CPTSD and maaaajor anxiety issues but I am still wearing a mask, and do it gladly.

YAB V U, sorry.

I am wearing a mask as required in places where it is mandatory. I have tried various styles and fabrics. I don't like any of them, and don't enjoy wearing any of them, and I will, like other posters, avoid any unnecessary places where masks are required (so it will be essential shopping only, no public transport if I can help it etc etc). But I am wearing a mask. I don't like it, but I get why we need to do it, so I'm doing it.

But why the actual fuck should I not be allowed to express the opinion that I find them uncomfortable?

I was in a supermarket earlier and a young girls, late teens/early twenties came and stood about one foot from me at the check out. She wasn't wearing a mask. I had words

N one would choose to wear them unless there was a reason eg a pandemic. A tv doctor said practise wearing them at home. Such an obvious sensible idea. Maybe combined with relaxation breathing. It won’t be hot forever. I think being motivated to be caring to other people will probably overcome most difficulties with wearing masks. That and empathy and gratitude to NHS workers!

Utterly irrelevant if people like them in my local community. Virtually nobody wears them at all where I live. Some have it round the chin in case someone makes them, but that rarely happens. Policing requires consent and people have not given it.

@Kezzywezzy I saw a suggestion that people get their kids used to it by making mask wearing a requirement for the duration of any screen time. I reckon that approach would work well for many adults!

How about - stop the moaning, accept other humans have faces or stay in.

Both DH and I find the wearing of masks difficult, as none seems to fit properly. I've spent about £200 on loads of different types!

I have finally managed to adapt some of the masks so that they fasten around the back of the head rather than with ear loops. I think the ear loop type just don't fit very well. Most are far too tight for DH and they're far too loose for me and make my glasses steam up!

Having to wear a mask all the time puts me off going anywhere, to be honest.

@countrygirl99 Grin thought police. That's like something my 7 year old comes out with. I'm not bothered that people moan about the masks, the masks suck and of course we're allowed to say so. I take issue with those who have spat their dummy out at every opportunity. Their rhetoric has been "I'm vulnerable but you're a big meanie for telling me to stay home. Now I'm free to go out but why should I experience any level of discomfort due to a mask. My right to do as I wish overrides any need for protection of others". Its downright pathetic and you can't call anyone on it or you're suddenly "ableist". Please.

Where on earth did you buy them from and how many have you bought ?! I've spent less than £20 on 6 washable ones [3 different types] and 10 disposable ones.

The people not wearing masks at all don't bother me too much as I assume (perhaps wrongly but I like to give the benefit of the doubt) that they have a valid reason for not doing so.

It's the ones who only cover their mouths and not their noses that piss me off. Do they somehow not breathe through their noses at all? Have their noses somehow become miraculously disconnected to the rest of their respiratory system?

Like if you're going to wear a mask (and if you can you should even if it is bloody uncomfortable) sodding do it properly or don't bother at all.

I've just come from a deep clean and wearing one of these.

I routinely wear masks for work and now have an indoor work mask and an outdoor fabric mask.

I'm sick of people whining, wearing basic masks incorrectly (the wire sits on the bridge of your nose and the mask must cover your nose) and throwing strops.

YADNBU.

YABU. People are 'sucking it up' by wearing masks. Doesn't mean it can't be uncomfortable though.

They make my glasses steam up -tried a few, makes no difference. Can't not wear glasses because I can't bloody see then.

My DH has an anti fog spray for his crash helmet visor. He put some on my glasses as I have to wear a mask at work and it really helps. Try Halfords or a motorbike shop Smile

YANBU. I've just commented on a thread where the poster was saying how fed up they are with masks.

This is an awful disease and I think mask wearing is a small price to pay.
