Would you have the vaccine...

Just curious. Yes or no is fine.

If the vaccine against Covid19 was offered to you would you have it?

I'm not an anti vaccinations at all ( though I don't take my dog for boosters and do a titre test to check his immunity) but I don't feel like there would be enough testing done on a rushed vaccine. It would be hard one in our little household as DH is totally for it and I'm totally against at moment! We're not in a vulnerable/shielding group, both early 40's with a teenager. Both keyworkers but not on frontline.

Yes i will be having it and so will my family. I am a frontline HCP in the NHS, dealing with COVID every day so i suspect we will be offered it first and we will definitely take it. My family are fully vaccinated including the flu injection every year. I have done plenty of research and i trust the scientists.

AdaFromYorkshire · 02/08/2020 19:15

Yes, but we know people involved in the Oxford research. It's nothing to do with the government, it's a team of very dedicated and respected scientists.

Luaa · 02/08/2020 19:22

Yes

G5000 · 02/08/2020 19:29

Yes, half my friends work for Big Pharma and will be the first lining up for it. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

It won't be compulsory, if your not convinced then don't have it.

Lots of unlicensed drugs are used in pregnancy. The fact they are not licensed for use in pregnancy doesn't necessarily mean they are unsafe but drug companies won't conduct trials of new drugs on pregnant women, it wouldn't be ethical. Over time it may become apparent that the benefit of a certain drug or vaccine outweighs the risk and so they will be prescribed. It's the case for quite a few antibiotics for example.

DC2 is only 15 months old and I took various drugs during my pregnancy with him so I had this chat with the GP quite a few times! [/quote]
I understand that. I've had off label drugs prescribed before but after having been told that's what was happening. I'm simply asking if pregnant women are being told that the whooping cough vaccine isn't licensed for use in pregnancy, if what you're saying is correct.

KitKatastrophe · 02/08/2020 19:32

Yes but I have young children and I wouldnt want them to have it at first.

OnItCarBonnet · 02/08/2020 19:33

No thanks

IcedPurple · 02/08/2020 19:33

I'll be rolling up my sleeve and rushing down to the GP's office the minute I can!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/08/2020 19:35

I'd be inclined to say no. I'm not anti vax but as a low risk individual I wouldn't get it if I had to pay for it. I never get the flu jab for example.

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/08/2020 19:37

I don't remember them specifically mentioning it but they didn't mention it when they prescribed any of the other drugs they gave me either. It's only if you look at the leaflet that comes with the drug that it will usually say not for use whilst pregnant or breastfeeding or something similar.

I know they've done very widespread studies on the whooping cough vaccine in pregnancy though and the results of that showed it to be safe.

My (basic!) understanding is that in general terms inactive vaccines are considered to be generally safe in pregnancy but live vaccines are not. You cannot have the MMR whilst pregnant for example.

I think it's unlikely that they will recommend the vaccine to pregnant women straight away although that's not to say that in years to come it won't become one of the standard pregnancy vaccines.

PuzzledObserver · 02/08/2020 19:38

This again?

Yes.

uglyface · 02/08/2020 19:47

Yes, but I’d want lots of information before letting my toddler have it.

BatShite · 02/08/2020 20:13

The fact they are not licensed for use in pregnancy doesn't necessarily mean they are unsafe but drug companies won't conduct trials of new drugs on pregnant women, it wouldn't be ethical.

Apparently this is similar to much childrens medication. A lot is technically 'off label' because not that many trials focus on kids for ethical reasons. At least thats what my doctor told me when DD had to have some drug that was apparently unlicensed and he was trying to explain it all to me!

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/08/2020 20:21

Also I tried to volunteer for the Oxford trial but they wouldn't take me because I'm still breastfeeding.

refusetobeasheep · 02/08/2020 20:32

yes, also signed up to trials here

Fosler · 02/08/2020 20:41

No. No way. I've never had the flu jab either.

Whatever health problems I have had were caused by bad lifestyle choices.

Fosler · 02/08/2020 20:42

I've not forgotten Thalidomide!

DebLou47 · 02/08/2020 20:52

Yep and signed up for the trials

SengaStrawberry · 02/08/2020 20:53

@Fosler

I've not forgotten Thalidomide!
What’s that got to do with anything?
MajesticWhine · 02/08/2020 21:09

Yes

palacegirl77 · 02/08/2020 21:13

Yup. Dogs vaccinated. Kids are vaccinated. Im vaccinated and have flu jab. Bring it on.

MrsStavrum · 02/08/2020 21:16

Yes, without a doubt

TheSunIsStillShining · 02/08/2020 21:26

We'll wait a few months. And check peer reviews and such if it's the chinese one that crosses the line first.
Then again, as we are not frontline workers I don't think will have an option.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 02/08/2020 21:45

No from me and DH.
