Would you have the vaccine...

Just curious. Yes or no is fine.

If the vaccine against Covid19 was offered to you would you have it?

I'm not an anti vaccinations at all ( though I don't take my dog for boosters and do a titre test to check his immunity) but I don't feel like there would be enough testing done on a rushed vaccine. It would be hard one in our little household as DH is totally for it and I'm totally against at moment! We're not in a vulnerable/shielding group, both early 40's with a teenager. Both keyworkers but not on frontline.

Yes absolutely, but agree with other posters re Oxford vaccine...which I think would be the safest option. Not sure I trust the Russians with a vaccine or the US.

ThatDamnScientist · 02/08/2020 16:05

Me - Yes
Dd1(18) hopefully would but ultimately her choice.
Dd2 (5) yes
DH - hope he would (pretty certain he will)

amylou8 · 02/08/2020 16:09

Probably not. Completely 100% pro vax, unfortunately not pro Boris and his cronies. Will be at the back of the queue anyway.

Baaaahhhhh · 02/08/2020 16:14

Yes.

Oxford Scientists are some of the best in their field, they are not influenced by the government, and are not in it for the fame or the money.

Without biomedical scientists, the NHS could not function. They would be treating patients with cold water and flannels (not quite, but you know what I mean), lets clap the scientists.

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 02/08/2020 16:25

I would have the Oxford vaccine. It's repurposed from a mers vaccine which was in stage 3 trials in the middle east.
They already know the "carrier" is safe it's just the covid bit which is being tested

MayFayre · 02/08/2020 16:26

Yes

I’ve volunteered for 3 trials

Klaudia14 · 02/08/2020 16:26

@Pacif1cDogwood

Yes.

Also, you are not anti-vaccine so why would you not give your dog a well proven, effective available vaccine against a recognised infectious disease? I don't get it, sorry.

We rehomed him at 16 weeks and he came without vaccine records. We were told he had them but did a titer test which showed he had no immunity at all. So he had his core puppy vaccinations and I have since done a blood test ( titer test) that showed he was fully immune a year after hence he didn't need a booster. His next blood test is due soon to check if he is still immune as he is now 4 years old. If he's not I will have the required vaccine. It's a personal choice that I made after lots of research.

Yes and for any unvaccinated people they should be banned from shops, restaurants etc. Hope workplaces make it mandatory.

OneFootintheRave · 02/08/2020 16:29

I agree with you totally OP. I am in no way an anti-vaxer but I would not be taking it. I do not take the regular flu jab either. How on earth can a vaccine developed and manufactured like a year to 18 months ago still be effective? I think it's mainly making some drug company a lot of cash. If I go abroad I have all the necessary jabs though.

Like you, I don't trust (our) government(s) not to cock it up, buy some placebo or worse from the developer with the best PR. I don't think Bill Gates is trying to inject mind control nanodes or anything just that it will be a useless waste of £££££. Cock up or conspiracy? It's always far more likely to be a cock up.

I would probably have the vaccine. However I strongly disagree with mandatory vaccinations.

Shops cannot ask why someone isn't wearing a mask - how would they know if someone has been vaccinated?

If workplaces made it mandatory what about these who cannot be vaccinated? And if the worst happened and someone had a severe reaction to the vaccine, is the workplace liable for enforcing their workers to have it?

That's a bit harsh! What about freedom of choice? I think as a human beings we should be allowed to make a choice as to what is injected into our bodies! No one should ever be forced into vaccinations!

No they would have to sign a can not be held responsible disclaimer.

Jussayingisall · 02/08/2020 16:37

It is for the greater good so we keep getting told on here repeatedly.

Tartan333 · 02/08/2020 16:41

yes, I really need for everything to get back to normal for my mental health, not dealing with it all very well. I just want my old life back for myself and my family. If the vaccine does that then I will have it.

userxx · 02/08/2020 16:42

@Jussayingisall 🤣🤣. Not going to happen.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 02/08/2020 16:47

Yes, definitely. It’s the only way of getting back to normality.

To those of you saying you don’t trust Johnson & his cronies, neither do I, but they have not developed the vaccines and are not the regulators. The MHRA, EMA and FDA are not yes-people.

The vaccines are also not being rushed: the development phases are overlapping and the vaccines are already in production, at risk of never being used if the trial results are not favourable. All the usual hurdles of making cases for funding and waiting for regulator time just don’t exist at the moment, hence the acceleration.

tigger1001 · 02/08/2020 16:48

@Jussayingisall

Then it cannot be mandatory. You cannot possibly expect people to sign a waiver to say that they won't sue the company if they end up very ill (or worse) from the vaccine. Side effects may be rare (and thankfully they are rare) but they still do exist. And often people don't know they will be the one to suffer the side effects until it's too late. It's why I strongly disagree with vaccines being mandatory. It needs to be informed consent, not done purely to keep your job.
Jussayingisall · 02/08/2020 16:48

Of course it won't happen. Too many people, especially on here loving lockdown and all it entails. People bleating on about the government, like Boris is making a vaccine himself. It being unsafe is just an excuse.

BatShite · 02/08/2020 16:49

Probably. I would be back of the queue though in reality, as I should be. The elderly, frontline staff and high risk first

annabel85 · 02/08/2020 16:52

Yes, i'd trust the scientists not to release it unless it's safe.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 02/08/2020 16:52

I've got concerns about it, about how safe it will be and that any long term effects won't be known. But, I'm in the shielding group and this isn't going anywhere so yes I would have it. I will be anxious about having it and not convinced that it's safe but what's the alternative?

raviolidreaming · 02/08/2020 16:59

I have only ever heard anti-vaxxers talk about checking titers.

a12345b · 02/08/2020 17:00

Ill wait for people at the government to have it first

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/08/2020 17:01

YES

Motorina · 02/08/2020 17:04

I would be at the front of the queue, pushing people out of the way with my elbows to get it.

In terms of mandatory vaccines, it is already mandatory for NHS frontline staff doing exposure-prone procedures to have a suite of vaccines, including Hep B, plus an HIV test when changing jobs. I don't see why this is any different. I would actively support it being mandatory for anyone in health and social care with direct patient contact.
