Would you have the vaccine...

Just curious. Yes or no is fine.

If the vaccine against Covid19 was offered to you would you have it?

I'm not an anti vaccinations at all ( though I don't take my dog for boosters and do a titre test to check his immunity) but I don't feel like there would be enough testing done on a rushed vaccine. It would be hard one in our little household as DH is totally for it and I'm totally against at moment! We're not in a vulnerable/shielding group, both early 40's with a teenager. Both keyworkers but not on frontline.

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras

To be fair, they never know whether a drug or vaccine will effect pregnant women or unborn babies unless they test them on pregnant women. It is for precisely that reason that so few drugs are actually licensed for use on pregnant women.

I suspect very strongly that it will not be recommend that pregnant women have the vaccine, at least not initially.

Either we let it burn through or we push forward with a vaccine in a short time frame. The reality is that people will not live their lives like this long term. They will just stop doing it. My guess is maybe six months more compliance with the current levels of restriction at the absolute max.@

SengaStrawberry · 02/08/2020 18:16

Yes I would and my kids will too. If my husband was against it they’d still be getting it.

Why wouldn’t it be properly tested? What stages are being missed out or rushed?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 02/08/2020 18:17

Is the flu vaccine or whooping cough vaccine being given off label to pregnant women then?

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/08/2020 18:19

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras

I believe it is, yes.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 02/08/2020 18:21

There won't have been even a full year of testing amongst humans even if it manages to be released by this time next year. As it stands they don't even know yet if it works. If it does work they won't know for how long it lasts. I've heard some scientists say that the proposal to run phase three trials with 30,000.subjects (so maybe 15,000 placebo/15,000 vaccine or 20,000vaccine/10,000 placebo) isn't a big enough study and that it really needs to be tested across all populations, which they don't have time to do.

Really? Are pregnant women being told that the whooping cough vaccine they are encouraged to have hasn't been tested on pregnant women and is being administered off label?

AgeLikeWine · 02/08/2020 18:26

Yes.

I'm in a vulnerable group due to asthma, so my life has been on hold since the middle of March. I have a flu jab every year with zero, so I’m confident the boffins know exactly what they are doing and I will be at the front of the queue for the covid vaccine.

It’s very likely that people who refuse to be vaccinated will face very serious restrictions on where they can go, what they can do and who they can meet, so once people understand this almost everyone will choose to get vaccinated.

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/08/2020 18:27

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras

It won't be compulsory, if your not convinced then don't have it.

Lots of unlicensed drugs are used in pregnancy. The fact they are not licensed for use in pregnancy doesn't necessarily mean they are unsafe but drug companies won't conduct trials of new drugs on pregnant women, it wouldn't be ethical. Over time it may become apparent that the benefit of a certain drug or vaccine outweighs the risk and so they will be prescribed. It's the case for quite a few antibiotics for example.

DC2 is only 15 months old and I took various drugs during my pregnancy with him so I had this chat with the GP quite a few times!

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/08/2020 18:27

You're not convinced!

mrshoho · 02/08/2020 18:32

100% yes and I'll get the flu one too for the first time ever.

tigger1001 · 02/08/2020 18:35

I get the flu vaccine each year, and I do that to protect myself as have asthma. If I didn't have that vulnerability I wouldn't get the vaccine. I do it to protect me.

We are responsible for our own health decisions. I may not make the same decision as other re flu but as long as they understand that by not having the vaccine they are more at risk of getting flu, then it's up to them.

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/08/2020 18:35

I’ll have it yes

But. I suspect that it will be compulsory by the black door
Example - company x won’t be insured if people refuse the vaccine Therefore they can’t/won’t employ you without it

This is already the case in dentistry
If I dont have the hep b and tetanus etc then my employers ( and my) indemnity/ insurance Is void and they can’t or won’t employ me - and yes they check up

Because it doesn’t just affect me - my colleagues and our patients would potentially be at risk
No jab- no job

Frazzled13 · 02/08/2020 18:35

As a generation we have benefitted from all sorts of vaccines like polio (which my father caught as a child), measles, mumps, rubella, tuberculosis, and I have been able to travel abroad to India and Africa and Asia because of vaccinations against some very nasty diseases like malaria, hepatitis and typhoid.

I agree with you generally and will have the vaccine (I volunteered for the trials), but, just being picky, there is no vaccine for malaria.

Littlemissdaredevil · 02/08/2020 18:36

Yes - however I’m not old or vunerable so I will be at the back of the queue. I’m worried that I would catch Covid 19 and give it to my elderly in laws

Watfrordmummy · 02/08/2020 18:36

Yes - I want to see my parents before Christmas

Allnamesaregone · 02/08/2020 18:37

I’ll have it if Boris and Nicola have theirs done live on TV, otherwise no.

Didyousaynutella · 02/08/2020 18:37

Yes for me. No for my kids.

Ethelfleda · 02/08/2020 18:38

I don’t know. I am 100% pro vaccinations but I simply do not trust our government at the moment not to cock this up

Do you think that the government is developing the vaccine itself?? Confused

Allnamesaregone · 02/08/2020 18:39

The new outbreak in Southeast Asia is a different strain, so not sure how long the vaccine will work for.
I would want to see data of what the response rate is and how long the immunity lasts for.

Othering · 02/08/2020 18:40

Not a chance. You'd have to hold me down first.

Zippy1510 · 02/08/2020 18:40

It’s gone through exactly the same testing as all other vaccines. They’ve just cleared the way so it doesn’t have to wait for anything. No waiting for your turn to present your ethics, no waiting for paperwork to be signed off, no getting in line till it’s your turn to trial. It’s not the testing steps that are being skipped!!!

SengaStrawberry · 02/08/2020 18:40

I think this too

Not compulsory in that people will be held down and injected against their will but access to many services, workplaces, travel will be restricted if people choose not to.

Here's an interesting piece on the different mutations of viruses and how the vaccines are effective

Difuser16 · 02/08/2020 18:55

Absolutely no chance I'm getting it or allowing my son to have it either!!!!

Happymama24 · 02/08/2020 19:04

Not a chance
