Personal wish list, not what’s best for the country nor what I think should actually be prioritised. Just my fingers crossed hopes:

Primary schools - at least part time
Playgrounds
Being able to sit on a bench/grass while exercising the kids, not having to keep moving at all times
Being able to drive further than a mile down the road without the police questioning you (yes this happened several times to people in my (pretty compliant) rural SE town.
Keeping support bubbles with single adult households

Also wouldn’t mind my UK holiday going ahead in 3 weeks time.

What do you think my chances are?

My two wishes are:

  1. Schools and universities to be opening and functioning well
  2. I can continue working from home due to savings, extra sleep and the sheer pointlessness of a 1 hour 20 minute commute when I will be on video calls all day with people in anywhere other than where I am working.

Schools
Healthcare

Swimming/gyms for exercise

Frivolous one for me is the cinema, music and theatre

ineedaholidaynow · 02/08/2020 10:53

I mentioned schools above but also NHS services across the country (seems quite ad hoc at the moment)

Come September my child won’t played with another child for 5 months”

💐It’s tough . Our youngest us 17, hasn’t seen another soul of his age since early March. He has asthma and we have very vulnerable household members so whilst he really needs to go back in September, it has got to be done safely with every possible precaution.
Such difficult decisions for so many families.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 02/08/2020 10:55

I don't have school aged children but I can totally see that for children's holistic wellbeing they need to be open. And I think if it takes a village to raise a child, the village needs to make the sacrifices for it to happen.

Most of my wants - unrestricted church, theatre, music - are still unrealistic. Swimming I'm looking forward to - our council pools open to adults a week tomorrow.

domesticslattern · 02/08/2020 10:56

Schools schools schools

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 02/08/2020 10:59

Schools, my 8 year old was acutely aware of the unfairness of not being in one of the 'chosen' year groups, and the school have been utterly and unforgivably rubbish.

Nhs, including dentists

Outdoor kids stuff including cubs and scouts.

FE colleges - my ASD 18 year old dc has regressed so much and now just wants to stay in his room all day, every day. He's meant to be transitioning to college in September but as he hasn't had any school or transitioning since March, he's already incredibly anxious about going. The long term repercussions on his mental health are already obvious, and if he can't get back into some kind of structure soon I'm worried for his future.

The ability to see another adult - I'm a lone parent and have forgotten what it's like to have an hour not talking to kids. I don't even have a bedroom to escape to, so being able to see family from a distance is the only thing keeping me sane (no exaggeration).

RhubarbTea · 02/08/2020 11:01

The ability to have my wisdom tooth out. It has been hurting and infected for 1 whole year and is doing my head in.

I also miss my choir - but recognise that's not going to be restarting for a long while yet, because of how singing spreads the virus and the proportion of older/retired people there are in choir. It's sad though. Sad

Camomila · 02/08/2020 11:02

Selfishly I'd like to keep indoor visits for the rest of August so DC can makes the most of grandparent time before school starts (and I can finish my dissertation while DS1 plays in my mums garden!)

I would also prefer part time well organized school to starting off with full time school and then a sudden close due to a local or national outbreak.

Lockdownseperation · 02/08/2020 11:03

@itsaratrap my DH is in the shielding group so it’s still all up in the air for us. At the moment DD1 is going to school in September but we will keep an idea on the number.

She is 4 and was asking when she was getting her injection for The virus and when we told her there wasn’t one yet and scientists are still making it she asked why I’m going to school then. It’s difficult to explain.

teta · 02/08/2020 11:04

Schools. My teenagers are becoming introverted. Dd1 has already been told uni lectures will be online. However she will still be expected to come in for practicals.
I really don't know how uni. for Freshers will work 🤯. Anyone any ideas?
Secondly dentists and thirdly outdoor sports/ athletics clubs.

polkadotpjs · 02/08/2020 11:06

School. Just school. My children are suffering

Lucindainthesky · 02/08/2020 11:07

Schools. I don't care about anything else as long as DD can go back to school.

Mumratheevergiving · 02/08/2020 11:07

Rhubarbtea I think you can have extractions especially for problematic teeth it’s aerosol work with drills and ultrasonic scalers that are limited. Dental pain is awful so I hope you get it sorted quickly.

Imaystillbedrunk · 02/08/2020 11:10

Schools and other childcare settings, oh, and my son to continue to play football. That's all. I'd sacrifice pretty much all my social interaction for that

OublietteBravo · 02/08/2020 11:10

Reading this, it's interesting how it differs to the government priorities. People value seeing their mothers or meeting up with friends even socially distanced outside, and the government values shops and pubs and workplaces.

In a government run by middle-aged men, activities enjoyed by middle-aged men seem to be prioritised. Why else would pubs open before schools? Or dry cleaners count as essential shops? (Unless NHS uniforms require dry cleaning of course. I’m betting that they don’t).

I want schools and sixth form colleges open. And NHS outpatient appointments to go ahead (DD has had her treatment paused since March, and it really, really needs to restart).

If I can have one other more frivolous thing, then I’d choose being allowed to form a bubble with one other household - irrespective of whether or not one of these households is a single adult household. If I had both those things, then I think I could cope with everything else being restricted for quite a long time.

HulaHoop31 · 02/08/2020 11:11

DD isn’t of school age yet, but I would love schools to be open. It’s so important.
I couldn’t care less about the pubs and restaurants for myself, but feel for the owners.
I want to be able to go to my mums/MILs for a cup of tea so they see their granddaughter.
The gym would be a nice to have but I’ve kind of got used to home exercise so could continue with that for the foreseeable

MrsCaplan · 02/08/2020 11:13

Schools and NHS services (including dentists).

1moreRep · 02/08/2020 11:13

schools, dentists and gyms- compete essentials imho
competitive contact sports
love to compete at brazilian juijitsu again

ineedaholidaynow · 02/08/2020 11:15

Unfortunately meeting up with families inside is the one of the riskiest things people can do in respect of virus transmission, that’s why it has been hugely restricted and why rates are going up because people are ignoring the rules.

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/08/2020 11:18

Nurseries, primary schools, secondary schools, non emergency but essential operations, GP surgery’s, dentists, opticians, playgrounds, Zoos, outside visits to old people’s homes in masks- may be cold for elderly though, but I’m sure they’d rather be cold than lonely!!! Other than that for now that would all make me happy... happy to add other things as I’ve probs forgotten something vital!

bigbluebus · 02/08/2020 11:20

The gym. I really won't find any pleasure in exercising outside in the winter months.

yomommasmomma · 02/08/2020 11:22

My basic wish list is - Schools need to be fully open. And we need to be able to see other people, fine with that just being outdoors and 2 meters away

alittleprivacy · 02/08/2020 11:34

I'm in Ireland where we have a few more things opened but my priority is being able to continue mixing households. As a single parent of a single child the thought of not being able to mix households throughout winter is very lonely.
