More changes, more masks, pausing further openings - plus get back to the office.

I was quite Hmm at the idea of 5000 at the races on Saturday.

OP posts:

@Sandsnake

‘Hands, face, space... get a test’ is uncannily like how I would imagine a sexual encounter with Johnson to play out.
That's an image I didn't need. Envy
GreytExpectations · 31/07/2020 13:30

Arent* being enforced.

Aragog · 31/07/2020 13:30

but who would want to be in a pub environment during a pandemic

We've been to our local pub since it opened. We go there for food as a household.
We were sat either indoor or outdoor on the occasions, we were at least 2m away from everyone else, usually more. It was table service mainly too. They took names and numbers on arrival and everyone used hand gel on arrival too.

I assume when we go next we will most likely do what we've been doing when eating out on holiday. We will wear our mask to enter and take them off when sat at our table to eat.

Not all pubs are like busy city centre bars with no social distancing etc

GabsAlot · 31/07/2020 13:30

christ witty saying the opposite to bj its just a big joke isnt it

either we're going to open up or we're not cant have both

Polkadotties · 31/07/2020 13:30

Pubs are only being kept open due to the shit loads of money they bring in. I can go to the local pub with countless other people but not my sister own wedding reception

Polkadotties · 31/07/2020 13:31
  • but not my own sisters wedding reception

That should say

SengaStrawberry · 31/07/2020 13:31

@labyrinthloafer

Sad Chris Whitty didn't sound very jolly just then
Does he ever. He’s always a miserable git.
GabsAlot · 31/07/2020 13:35

i am glad about the sporting events though

how could think thousands at the races was ok

Babyroobs · 31/07/2020 13:35

@TheHobbitMum

What great news! I'm so glad to finish shielding today and so looking forward to going back to work in a supermarket on Monday Sad
My dh has received a letter that he is to shield for a further 2 weeks?
FrolickingLemon · 31/07/2020 13:38

Yep. T'was always going to end up like the Hokey Fucking Cokey.

Chris Whitty wants a knighthood for this.
He must go home every night and bash his head against a wall. Just shows Johnson up even more when he is standing next to a man who is professional and calm.

crosseyedMary · 31/07/2020 13:38

We are a country of selfish twats who don't care
I think we are a country of people who are struggling to cope with an impossible situation, and during this impossible situation the people who we elected to act as our leaders are obviously lying covering things up and giving confusing messages.

TheHobbitMum · 31/07/2020 13:39

Really? Is that an official NHS letter like before? I haven't received anything and haven't heard anyone else having one :(

crosseyedMary · 31/07/2020 13:39

Pubs are being kept open because the alcohol lobby wants to preserve its profits and has enough leverage to force the government's hand

TheHobbitMum · 31/07/2020 13:40

Stupid phone, sorry I was supposed to @Babyroobs in the above

Polkadotties · 31/07/2020 13:42

@crosseyedMary couldn’t agree more.
Everyone I know is fed up and can’t see the end.
We, as a nation, aren’t selfish. Everyone I know just wants to live their lives

RedToothBrush · 31/07/2020 13:45

The new summer dance like the Macarana is

Hands, Face, Space
Arse, Elbow, Space

Its sure to be a hit.

crosseyedMary · 31/07/2020 13:45

All the things that humans enjoy doing and want to do are also things which facilitate transmission of the virus
This is the problem
Our lives are structured in ways which also facilitate transmission of the virus.

StormzyinaTCup · 31/07/2020 13:46

www.travelweekly.co.uk/articles/282542/hospitalitys-contribution-to-uk-economy-outpacing-other-sectors

Hospitality is Britain’s fourth largest employer, accounting for 3.2 million direct jobs and a further 2.8 million indirect jobs, according to data from Ignite Economics commissioned by the British Hospitality Association

Hospitality and tourism brought £73 billion to the economy last year, or £161 billion including the indirect impact, including £15 billion in exports and £38 billion in direct tax receipts

it’s a real bugger and I do feel for people who have wedding plans etc thrown into disarray but the Travel and Tourism business is massive both in jobs and revenue. Jobs and revenue in travel are already going to be hit massively if you add in hospitality it will be a disaster.

People just need to stick to the advice of mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing and we should be able to keep Covid at bay and still retain some semblance of a functioning economy (I hope).

SleepingStandingUp · 31/07/2020 13:47

Oh I missed the new slogan was head shoulders knees and toes.

The "at the limit" stuff about if we want stuff opened other stuff will have to close, can they close the pubs so they can open the theatres then?

Fairybio · 31/07/2020 13:50

@terracottapot

It was masks in shops (which will be enforced by police and Priti Patel) PLUS galleries, museums, cinemas and places of worship.

TinyMetalBirds · 31/07/2020 13:53

Hands Face Space
Man Woman Person Camera TV

It's like the leaders of the Western world are building a surreal poem between them. What will the next line be?

MaxNormal · 31/07/2020 13:53

We are a country of selfish twats who don't care

We are no more or less selfish in the UK than any other country.
I am so sick of the blame for this pandemic being shoved back onto ordinary people, who have had their lives completely upended due to something completely outwith of our control.

TinyMetalBirds · 31/07/2020 13:54

Damn it I see half of Twitter already said that.

NaughtyLittleElf · 31/07/2020 13:55

I work for the NHS, my senior leadership team are all clinicians and we won't be returning to the office for at least another two months, regardless of what Boris says.

iVampire · 31/07/2020 13:55

@Sandsnake

‘Hands, face, space... get a test’ is uncannily like how I would imagine a sexual encounter with Johnson to play out.
Brilliant!!
