More changes, more masks, pausing further openings - plus get back to the office.

I was quite Hmm at the idea of 5000 at the races on Saturday.

Reporter: do you agree you need to be more clear about announcing quick changes to lockdown such as in the N.E to avoid confusion about new rules.

B.J Yes we need a nice clear slogan: Hands,Face, Space and get a test!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/07/2020 13:08

The completely fucked it when they supported Cummings

Agreed.

But Matt Hancock is still blaming the population for not "maintaining distance and following rules".

Those will be the rules that change every 20 minutes, will they Matt? The ones thatfaren't announced until the 11th hour, that have been reversed before the ink is dry on the paper they're written on.

The ones that don't apply to Scummings or to anyone who has to clean their Greek villa before their first holiday lets arrive (like Stanley Johnson has ever scrubbed his own toilet).

The rules that, when Scummings got off scot free, people tended to think "Well, it can't be that serious . . . "

Those rules, do you mean Matt, you great stammering gibbering pudding?

@ineedaholidaynow

Thanks Sad

Staplemaple · 31/07/2020 13:09

although I am sure some shielding people want to get out but they need to be safe..

But they've always been 'allowed' out, this is just a way of removing the support in place to allow them to do so, which is pretty grim considering.

labyrinthloafer · 31/07/2020 13:11

I don't know how frustrating it must be as a serious person to have to share a podium with him.

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 31/07/2020 13:12

Did Boris say someone was going to be giving advice about people coming out of shielding later this afternoon?

OldLace · 31/07/2020 13:13

@Twilbury

Hands Face Space

But no sodding Trace !

Wait for it, in a fortnight or so they will add:

knees, and toes or we all fall down....

why does this Govt seem so determined to infantilise us?

And why do some people seem determined not to use common sense and try to wiggle out of the rules any which way?

So, R rate rising, lots of local lockdowns at 3 hours notice, but its all back to school and the office folks? Ooof.

Did Chris Whitty look uncomfortable when Johnson first cut to him?

PhilCornwall1 · 31/07/2020 13:14

@HappyMealWithLegs

So, you don't have to wear a mask to pack into a crowded wetherspoons on a Friday night, but you have to wear a mask to look around a museum or go to church? Have I got it right?
A face covering in a pub wouldn't really work.
Sandsnake · 31/07/2020 13:16

‘Hands, face, space... get a test’ is uncannily like how I would imagine a sexual encounter with Johnson to play out.

labelsaccidentalbrewing · 31/07/2020 13:16

@MiniCoffee

HANDS FACE SPACE!!

its like he either just came up with it in that second and loves it or he got told earlier and forgot then suddenly remembered it, as he wont shut up about it now!

Hands Face Space?

So 2 fingers, hand hitting forehead, and 1 finger? Just to be sure how to get it across when socially distancing with the reluctant, or in case I meet Johnson any time soon.

I think yours is far better than mine which never got any further than this.

beguilingeyes · 31/07/2020 13:18

James O'Brien just tweeted that the slogan will be 'Heads, shoulders, knees and toes' by the end of the day and now the bloody thing is going round and round my head incessantly.

ifonly4 · 31/07/2020 13:19

I've been thinking for the last month, it'll be facemasks everywhere, even in schools and pubs, ie you'll have to be served at a table and have a mask in when walking around premises. Looks like we're moving closer.

pepperycinnamon · 31/07/2020 13:20

A face covering in a pub wouldn't really work.

On the contrary, it'd be perfect for the economy. You take it off for the first couple of pints and then forget and pour your pint down your front as the mask impedes drinking, therefore you buy more pints as they are going so quickly.

SockYarn · 31/07/2020 13:21

Hands Face Space is better than Nicola Sturgeon's FACTS acronym where F stands for facemasks, A is ....err can't remember... C is ... coverings? T is get a test.... S is err... social distance? No idea.

crosseyedMary · 31/07/2020 13:23

A face covering in a pub wouldn't work
but who would want to be in a pub environment during a pandemic, surely you'd have to be pretty dumb to think it was a good idea?

As he walked off he said - do you think I said that enough?

So, yep, was told to say it and forgot it till halfway through....

terracottapot · 31/07/2020 13:26
@terracottapot it is from 8/8 I think he said.
Fron what I saw it was in certain enclosed spaces, I could be wrong, but I don't believe that shops were included in the list.

Valleydad99 · 31/07/2020 13:26

@Polkadotties

It’s a total joke. I’m fed up of the whole bloody thing. A virus which fatally affects a minuscule proportion of the population is holding everyone to ransom. Yes, some people, again a very small proportion, have some ongoing issues but that happened pre covid with other virus’s and infections, it just wasn’t published constantly in the media.
I absolutely agree. It was orignally "flatten the curve" and "job retention". Now it's "elimination or bust" and "we can't protect every job". Absolute shit show & come winter we are utterly utterly buggered.

Thank you for making me ROFL, I will never be able to unsee this now.
eddiemairswife · 31/07/2020 13:26

Matt Hancock, "Yes, it is absolutely clear that, er, um, I will get back to you on that one." Really! Is this the best person in the Government to be Health Minister? Perhaps they need to borrow someone more intelligent from the Labour, Liberal or Green parties.

Alsohuman · 31/07/2020 13:26

Tell that to the people ramming the pubs.
BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 31/07/2020 13:29

I must admit I'm a bit worried about schools being able to reopen in September now😔
They've halted weddings which is only up to 30 people but there are over 1000 kids at DC school. DD will be in year 13 and can't afford to lose anymore learning time.

GreytExpectations · 31/07/2020 13:29

I feel like people on Mumsnet don't comprehend how much the country will crumble if our economy collapses. They had to open more businesses up to keep the country surviving. If the economy crashes where do you think money for education and hospitals comes from? It's not about not caring about schools, it's much bigger than that.

Yes, masks need to be mandatory is more places and actually enforced. Social distancing needs to also be strict with limited numbers allowed in at a time. I saw this coming because the rules in place are being enforced and we are a country of selfish twats who don't care. Look at all the uproar on here about having to wear a mask. If we want to get out of this shit show people needs to get a fucking grip

RandomStupidName · 31/07/2020 13:29

You can't keep schools closed any longer. Our DC's education and MH is too important plus if the DC are off school, people can't work and furlough will have to be extended. It is just not feasible.

I think the only solution is work/school - home and not mix outside of this.
