Still breaking so no exact detail on location yet but -

"Separate households will not be allowed to meet indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire from midnight, the government has announced.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said an "increasing rate of transmission" had been identified in those areas."

@Haffiana bit harsh. I'm Northern and I see them too. Can understand your frustrations but the North isn't entirely populated by backwards idiots you know. Plenty of people like that in the South as well sadly.

Agree with everyone else, there is absolutely no way this would be happening on Christmas Eve with this notice.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 09:29

Big Asian community in my town. More than happy to comply with new rules to help anyone. But there's an outside chance people don't go on fucking Twitter at night. We learned by word of mouth. There was even debate about whether our area constituted Greater Manchester.
Treating us like stupid pieces of shit that you accidentally step in is Not leadership.

BaldCrone · 31/07/2020 09:29

I live in Pendle. I have only left the house twice since February to go for a walk, luckily I live near a park. I have health probs and am in the vulnerable group so am being very careful. My DH still goes to work but his work have strict social distancing measures in place and he has to wear a visor all day. He also goes to Asda once a week with a mask and gloves on. I wash all the shopping down before using it. I have not ordered anything online or any takeaways. Even though Boris said it would all be back to normal by Christmas HmmI do not believe him and will continue shielding in effect. Have not seen anyone outside my household since February.

This virus has not gone away just because we opened up the economy again.

I don't suppose the new restrictions will make much difference to us because we are just carrying on the same, hoping for a vaccine. Smile

Tadpolesandfroglets · 31/07/2020 09:30

I agree the timing is shite. However we were also in lockdown over Easter, which wasn’t ideal but we coped. It is unfortunate but it needs to be done.

LangClegsInSpace · 31/07/2020 09:31

@bellinisurge

Blaming us for it is fucking vile. Two hours fucking notice is vile. Doing it just before Eid is vile without consulting relevant community leaders. They. Wouldn't . Dare. Do. It. Like. This. To. London/On Christmas Eve.

Useless fucking twats.
#whatwouldDomdo?

This.

I appreciate the need for local lockdowns but they won't work unless the government keeps the public on board.

Absolute shitshow.

cathyandclare · 31/07/2020 09:32

Living in Leeds, the city pretty much merges with Bradford, so we're lucky to avoid the restrictions. Looking at the cases in Leeds, the levels have snuck up this week. But the map shows much less blue than in Bradford and GM.

28-07-2020 24
27-07-2020 13
26-07-2020 7
25-07-2020 5
24-07-2020 3

But the figures have been up and down. They've hit the teens and twenties for the odd day before, so I assume they're keeping an eye on them.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 09:33

@Tadpolesandfroglets but treating us with contempt is disgusting.
No argument with "it must be done" but imagine if they'd done the masks in shops rule for England like this : "in two hours time you all have to wear masks in shops". Would you have been ok with being treated like that?

The rules apply to everyone Muslim or not. The idea is they stop people catching and spreading a disease that could potentially kill. The rate of infection is too high in some areas. Community leaders know that the only presentation is to stay apart from people and wash your hands. What can they say that’s any different?

What do you want government to do? If they ignore local outbreaks they would be accused of not looking after the BAME population in these areas or worse.

They didn't announce it on the Thursday night on Twitter though, did they, once people had already bought their roast lamb and travelled to visit family. You think if they had done that everybody would have merrily packed up and gone home without a grumble?
bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 09:35

"What do you want government to do?"
Give us more fucking notice. They wouldn't do this on Christmas Eve. So why do it like this.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/07/2020 09:35

The way they announced it was rubbish, but I can understand the need for it.

I also assume Christmas may not be great this year but hopefully would be more notice. However, I think once schools are back, particularly Secondary schools, it will become more obvious that young people mixing together is a nightmare when it comes to this virus.

IrmaFayLear · 31/07/2020 09:37

Those people demanding notice... how can this be achieved? An outbreak could become apparent quite suddenly. If I were informed that there was a big spike in my town two days before Christmas and we were locked down,so be it. I wouldn’t think it was personal . I’d be pissed off that some f**r had gone skiing and spread it around but I’d be quite prepared to stay at home in order to avoid contracting and spreading the virus.

In fact we should all get our heads around potential Christmas lockdowns. Should we demand notice of this right now?

BwanaMakubwa · 31/07/2020 09:40

red toothbrush
The Trafford map last week only showed >3 cases in Hale and Hale Barnes last week; definitely high income largely wbri areas.
This week it's practically everywhere, but the rise only started on 20 July so really recently.

I have no idea what has caused it, but it isn't a concentrated outbreak eg around a particular pub - which is more of a worry. Local info is that a full 50 percent of cases are in 17-23 year olds so I assume it is social gathering related.

TuckMyWin · 31/07/2020 09:40

I don't even know where to begin with this. You think the decision to lock down several million people was taken because of an outbreak that became suddenly apparent late yesterday evening?
bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 09:40

"Those people demanding notice... how can this be achieved?"
Are you seriously suggesting that the first time they worked out there was a problem was 8 pm on Thursday night?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 31/07/2020 09:41

I don’t mean that in an unkind way - just that they are in multiple high risk categories and not taking precautions (I’ve got a high BMI myself)

Mistlewoeandwhine · 31/07/2020 09:41

Comment directed to Tadpolesandfroglets

LangClegsInSpace · 31/07/2020 09:42

An outbreak could become apparent quite suddenly.

An outbreak large enough to require locking down such a wide area does not come about that suddenly. Not suddenly enough that the only option is to announce it on Twitter with a couple of hours notice.

Thesearmsofmine · 31/07/2020 09:44

Well it isn’t even 10am and my road is already full of cars full of families arriving to celebrate Eid with their relatives.

If this happened at Christmas people would be doing the exact same thing,

Leflic · 31/07/2020 09:46

@bellinisurge

"What do you want government to do?" Give us more fucking notice. They wouldn't do this on Christmas Eve. So why do it like this.
Honestly though if you live in these areas you must be worried already? Surely the thought that Eid would have to be done differently must have been discussed already?

We’re had no cases recently but still no one goes into each other’s houses anymore. Even if Christmas Eve was tomorrow I already know my elderly family wouldn’t be travelling down and I’d have a plan B in case any of my family fell ill.

If I lived in an area of high infection I’d be doing Christmas differently full stop, government advice or not.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 09:47

@Thesearmsofmine . #whatwouldDomdo?

There's an outside possibility that not everyone is on Twitter and not everyone thinks this short notice shit actually means stop family parties.

Cherryghost · 31/07/2020 09:48

Re Trafford increase, Dino falls the crazy golf was shut due to a outbreak. Could this be the reason for the increasing figures?
It's back open now but was shut.

Stellakent · 31/07/2020 09:49

I don't live in one of the affected areas but if I did I would be doing what has been asked to reduce the infection rate. We always knew that local lockdowns might happen. And if it was Christmas, yes we would cancel our plans if it meant protecting our families.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2020 09:50

@Leflic "these areas "😂😂😂
The most non compliance I've seen is from my ex-squadie non-Muslim neighbours and their non-stop partying with loads of guests. For several weeks.

Cherryghost · 31/07/2020 09:50

Wow fudge I'm not in support bubble with sister so technically not allowed but there is nothing to say whether families (just their own household) are allowed out of the area to stay at hotels or not
