Just heard this on breaking news.

From midnight tonight? Bad news for anyone who is there now and due to travel home. We were supposed to be going at the end of August and now I’m limbo about what to do!!!

OP posts:

Those of you saying how can be some people be thinking about travelling abroad whilst we’re in the middle of a pandemic I hope have stayed at home and only gone out for essentials. Not meeting with families or friends. , not going to the park for some exercise , def no going to drinks or thinking about a break day and also not going to any uk holiday. We’re in a pandemic at the end of the day

IrmaFayLear · 27/07/2020 16:01

I am not a Lockdown Fanatic, but I agree with Lucky2Be. At the moment you may be allowed to go on holiday to certain places, but common sense tells you that at the moment it really isn’t a wise move, unless you are prepared to take the hassle on the chin, which could involve two weeks without pay once you’re back home.

Just saw on Spectator email that France is being considered for quarantining too. Brittany cases are rising alarmingly.

mrpumblechook · 27/07/2020 16:02

10 months. And not sure what the problem is to be honest. Ive got an insurance that covers it and all my hotels in Japan can be cancelled til the last minute.

So you won't actually lose a lot of money if you don't go.

Well sure you can take this view of others but generally it’s OTT.

Booking now when FCO changes can make insurance invalid, flights don’t refund etc makes it more if a risk to book right now. Fine if others want to take it.

Yes this is me! I FOLLOWED goverment guidelines from the off!
MarshaBradyo · 27/07/2020 16:05

And if you can’t wfh then quarantine can stuff you up, as employers most likely won’t pay for extra two weeks.

Coffeeandteav · 27/07/2020 16:06
**@mrpumblechook have you ever booked a holiday outside of Europe on the last minute

I don't book them at the last minute but you don't have to book 8 months in advance to get a cheap ticket which is what you apparently did if you booked before we knew there was a pandemic..
Most people book summer hols in January that's really not unreasonable. You are being ridiculous

Thank you. Some people clearly don't have common sense. 🤷‍♀️

We are in Italy right now so the news about Spain is worrying but situation here is very different. However there is a certain complacency here that is very worrying. Lot of people that seem to think it's all finished.

KingFredsTache · 27/07/2020 16:22

They are in talks to possibly make the islands exempt from quarantine it looks like, positive news?

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2020 16:24

if anyone on here who is booked with VP wants to join me on a VP ranty thread I am happy to start one. That way we can rant into our own echo chamber!

Let me know!

KingFredsTache · 27/07/2020 16:24

Yes, and the government guidelines for the last few weeks have been that you can go abroad.

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2020 16:29

Also me lucky. My whole family, including my teenage DSs and my CV DH have been nowhere.

We never much wanted to go on our holiday sand now we won't be. It'd be good if the travel companies would have negotiated more with us to begin with as they would have found us rebooking for next year or 2022.

Am also another one who booked in (early) January.

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2020 16:32

mrpumblechook we paid full balance. You are NOT ENTITLED to an refund unless you do.

And , now, companies are trying not to refund people who have paid full balances.

Yes, we've done all that. Barely left our village since February. Certainly not done any socialising other than socially distanced chats with neighbours. Not gone in anyone else's houses at all, not even relatives. Only going out for daily walks. Not gone on any holiday, not gone in any pubs. We're in the midst of a pandemic after all and doing any of that increases risk to ourselves and others.
Freeekedout · 27/07/2020 17:04

The irony is that those of us who booked Spanish islands pre covid lose everything and the people who took a bit of a risk and booked during the pandemic get their refund if they're going to the mainland. We have tried to cancel but still hand had to pay the full amount whether we travel or not. To say it is unfair is an understatement 😡

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2020 17:11

I'm not getting my refund and yet am going to the mainland and booked months and months ago , just to try to make you feel a bit better Sad Envy

Hoppinggreen · 27/07/2020 17:13

I feel sorry for anyone who is losing money over this but things rapidly changing was always a possibility.
We are in a global pandemic, things have eased a bit and a lot of people seem to think it gave them the green light to a lot of things and yes it WAS permitted to go on holiday BUT it was a bad idea.
We have our own villa that is currently sitting empty and we could go but I don’t think it’s advisable and let’s not forget that FCO advice is and has been for some time essential travel only. Holidays are not essential

Freeekedout · 27/07/2020 17:14

It's so unfair isn't it, Piggy? 😢

Hope you get it sorted out 🤞

BarefootHippieChick · 27/07/2020 17:15

piggy I actually had a call from Villa plus earlier ! They confirmed we don't wish to travel and said we'll get a full refund within 14 days.

Freeekedout · 27/07/2020 17:15

Hoppinggreen Things changing rapidly wasn't a possibility when Piggy booked in January or when I booked in September!

Staplemaple · 27/07/2020 17:15

The irony is that those of us who booked Spanish islands pre covid lose everything and the people who took a bit of a risk and booked during the pandemic get their refund if they're going to the mainland

See that's wildly unfair, for anyone who booked before they should be able to have a full refund, it's scandalous.

Freeekedout · 27/07/2020 17:21

This is what's made me more angry than anything. We booked in good faith and would never have predicted this when we booked, not like the people who thought they'd have a holiday mid pandemic 😡

Chesneyhawkes1 · 27/07/2020 17:34

@Freeekedout if I cancel my mainland flights which are still going I get €9 per passenger back or towards a new flight. So that's not true.

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2020 17:38

Wow barefoot! That's good news for you!

They are still holding out on Ryanair and EasyJet packages.

hopping actually you are incorrect. FCO advice against travel was lifted a few weeks ago and has now been reimposed.
