Will the scheme persuade you to go out?

@BubblyBarbara

It's the most stupid idea I've ever heard of. It's clearly aimed at middle class types and not who actually needs the help. I'd rather they fed all NHS staff for free for August instead.

We all know people who are addicted to coupons or getting a deal and they will all be out running around in August making the most of this silly offer increasing the spread of the virus even more. Sigh.

Know quite a few people who are going to go out with this offer

It will stop businesses going under

So let’s say a business shut

No business rates been paid
No insurance been paid
No wages been paid
No food wholesales been paid
No maintence been paid for the upkeep of the place

So it has a big knock on affect

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 17:48

It can be healthy food, why do people keep saying junk food? Our cafe nearby is lovely and healthy, lots of vegan options etc

Also we are on a low income, tax credits and if children's meals are half price too that's nearly the same as cooking at home...

stretchedmarks · 08/07/2020 17:53

Some fun suckers on this thread. It's almost as if they get genuine enjoyment out of being as miserable as possible.

And no one come at me with shielding/working etc excuses. Just because you aren't going out, you don't need to shit on it for everyone else.

covidmonkey · 08/07/2020 17:55

Yes, we are definitely eating out. We have a holiday then and the town we are staying has couple of good restaurants with outdoor area.

Chaosreigns123 · 08/07/2020 17:56

Of course I can be healthy food just might not be.

I think the government have done a great job of scaring us and now they want us to go out and spend.

I'm not scared to go out, but I still feel a bit 'guilty' about going for extra top up shops. I'm treated like a murderer by some people for sending my dc to school.

So when I think about doing something as non essential as eating out, all I can hear is "anyone can catch it, anyone can spread it".

It doesn't make me want to go out for dinner and I used to love eating out.

Zilla1 · 08/07/2020 17:57

I'd rather have had the £1000/£500 parachute money to spend in face to face retail and hospitality.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/07/2020 17:58

How is this catering to the middle class? I am working class, as are all my family and friends. Shocking as it may seem to some but we also go out for meals sometimes! 🙄

NaughtyLittleElf · 08/07/2020 17:58

orangeblossom78 According to this thread restaurants are either expensive, independent and closed Monday to Wednesday or sell junk food, there's nothing in between.

And only people who don't work and don't have children can eat out Monday to Wednesday anyway.

Heaven forbid anyone should pop out to a chain of restaurant for a mid week dinner after work, the horror.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 18:01

It's actually quite rude, the comments about junk food and only for the 'middle class' etc. Quite snobby.

colditz · 08/07/2020 18:02

@SockYarn

Give the Easter Eggs to nursing homes.

SockYarn · 08/07/2020 18:03

TBH @colditz, if they are still in date we'll sell them. We've lost about a third of a year's trading.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/07/2020 18:05

@Orangeblossom78 exactly. As if working class people are all too poor to go to restaurants.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/07/2020 18:07

Yes. We will.

colditz · 08/07/2020 18:07

@SockYarn, people will be delighted for the charity shops to open. Kids have grown, parents have got fat, EVEERYONE needs to both clear out and lots need to replace their work wardrobe Blush due to burgeoning muffin tops, so hopefully you will make back your trade.

RaininSummer · 08/07/2020 18:08

Nope. I don't eat out anyway much anyway as can't afford to and at present really wouldn't fancy it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2020 18:09

We won’t bother, dh is shielding & I’ve got him this far. I’m not screwing it all up now.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 18:10

Yes, seems MN is a bit out of touch at times

Weepinggreenwillow · 08/07/2020 18:10

sock I am not ungrateful, really, but I have been given 3 in the last week! It isnt helping me shift any of the lockdwon excess weight!!

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 18:10

For the people shielding it who'd be possible to get takeaway perhaps. Maybe they will make an exception

EggysMom · 08/07/2020 18:15

We'll be going out on a Tuesday in early August, so we will hopefully use this scheme.

We'd have been going out anyway, it's one of those rare nights when our disabled son will be at respite. You take those on any day you can!

Egghead68 · 08/07/2020 18:15

Shielding stops 1st August and the £10 scheme starts in August.

NotTerfNorCis · 08/07/2020 18:18

I think it will us. We always used to go out on a Wednesday anyway, and my OH is a sucker for any discounts.

georgedawes · 08/07/2020 18:18

Don't think we'd use it tbh, definitely would if it was for takeaway though. We don't eat out that often though so perhaps not the target market.

Aposterhasnoname · 08/07/2020 18:21

Yes I’ll be using it. A couple of my local restaurants have already said they’ll look into how to,participate and will open Monday-Wednesday specifically.

pourmeanotherglass · 08/07/2020 18:23

Yes if local independents join in, especially those with outside seating.
