Will you be heading to the shops on 15th June?

I am at mid risk of complications due to Covid. Obese and BAME. So even with a mask I think I would be so anxious going to the shops. We also have a high death rate in our area. I'm not sure of the infection level.

Will you be returning to the shops? I worry about toilets and sanitary levels too.

@Celan I'm sure the average independent shop wouldn't want me and my dc cluttering up the shop anyway with their touchy feely ways. I do think children and their caregivers wellbeing are being sacrificed on the altar of the economy. It's not ok and I'm not validating the governments actions by spending like its Christmas so I can feel a warm martyrish glow.

pourmeanotherglass · 11/06/2020 21:53

Not rushing out on 15th, I'll give it a few weeks. I'm not high risk but can't be bothered with the queues and don't have a lot of free time as I work full time for the NHS. I don't really like buying clothes online because I like to try them on, but we won't be allowed to do that when they first open, so there isn't a big advantage to going.

Alex50 · 11/06/2020 22:06

Yes

ReceptionTA · 11/06/2020 22:11

No, because I'll be at work.

Anything I want/need apart from food I can get online.

Butterfly3105 · 11/06/2020 22:21

I will deffo be going - can't wait, just wondering should i go early to beat the queues, anyone else doing that?

@GruffyLove make sure you take a mask!

VioletCharlotte · 11/06/2020 22:27

As a person who works in a independent shop, this replies make me sad. If everyone switches to online the independent shops won't survive. I will be supporting local shops once they reopen.

There are very few independent shops where I live unfortunately. It's a rather soulless town! If there were then I would support them, they're always so much more interesting than the usual chains.

Haplap · 11/06/2020 22:34

Consumerism as we knew it is over. Then crumbles the economy.

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 11/06/2020 22:37

Only if need something that I can't get online. I don't enjoy shopping except food shopping which I really love??? I'm prob the minority.
And in general I wait till I have a big enough list and do in 1 hit.
I do however have to go to matalan tomorrow as asda and tesco locally have no underwear for dd.
So need to get her pants. Recently potty trained and needs new ones. But tbh ill prob buy 2 sizes and anything else I can think of when there.

WhiteChocTwix · 11/06/2020 22:38

I'll probably go for a potter mid week when it's quiet. You won't catch me near the shops on a weekend though.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 11/06/2020 22:45

No but I might go to a national trust garden

TeddyBeans · 11/06/2020 22:49

I have an appointment on the 20th to get my son's feet checked at Clarks but that's as far as my forward planning goes

HandsOffMyRights · 11/06/2020 23:00

No.

I usually like mooching, but going to a supermarket in the current climate would feel like a George A Romero film.

The independent non-food shops near me generally sell things I dont need. I've never shopped in most of them so why would I start now? I've shopped in the ones providing necessary items, the sensible ones provided a delivery service.

Concerned7777 · 11/06/2020 23:04

No but I was very much an online shopper beforehand and I hate queuing up outside the supermarket I'm not going to queue up for something that isnt essential that I can happily wait to get delivered in a few days.

TheSherbetTurbot · 11/06/2020 23:09

I won't go just for the sake of it. I don't need anything, and I've not really missed the shops. When I do, I probably will. No rush.

IcyApril · 11/06/2020 23:15

At some point next week, yes. I will probably pop to Next as I need clothes for all three children. I ordered from H&M and half didn’t fit. Managed to get a few pieces from Sainsburys, but I need more now. It’s difficult to find things in stock in baby sizes.

strugglingwithdeciding · 11/06/2020 23:26

Depends on size of que I've already visited the range and been to beach on a quiet day , so as long as not too busy I would go if needed something
But probably not next week as reckon will be too busy maybe in couple weeks when they may of quietened down a little , bit if higher risk and you cAn get s you need online or local I would prob stick to that

BeijingBikini · 12/06/2020 01:02

Absolutely, I will join the back of the queue for TK Maxx!

My life has been so fucking dull for 3 months, a morning spent browsing facemasks and house tat would be wonderful

PickAChew · 12/06/2020 01:08

Only to the M&S food hall as I usually do on a Monday. Could do to pop into superdrug, mind.

MrsJonesAndMe · 12/06/2020 07:33

No, always mostly been an online shopper so will stick to that.

hopsalong · 12/06/2020 07:43

Absolutely! Have bought three pairs of new school shoes online for my DS, now back in reception, none of which fit. I'll be picking him up after school in his trainers and going straight to Trotters. Also planning to go to various other shops.

wheresmymojo · 12/06/2020 07:45

No.

To me the only things that make shopping in person, rather than online, worthwhile wont be available:

  • Stopping for coffee and lunch
  • Relaxed mooching and browsing
  • Being able to touch the clothes to see how they feel
  • Trying on

Without those things shopping in person won't be worth it at all.

Lots of people on this thread are missing the fact that they won't be able to try anything on.

Also I really don't want to catch the virus because I'm really fat (and yes I'm trying to lose weight) and know several people who, while they didn't go to hospital, were very ill for 6-8 weeks.

KatherineJaneway · 12/06/2020 07:50

No I won't. I think it will be mad for a while with people going to the shops even if they don't really need anything. I'll wait for it to die down a bit.

NekoShiro · 12/06/2020 07:50

No, and I work in a large retail store. We've hired more security to stand on the door with one of those clickers they use at concerts to count people in and out, I work for a huge fashion chain known for being cheap and stuffed dull of different clothes, we've had to reduce our clothing stands to make 2ms possible so stores are probably gonna look a lot more empty now aswell, less people, less stuff, a lot less staff.

Snowdown24 · 12/06/2020 07:53

Even if there was no virus, who would go and que like that for endless shops!! No way!
