Will you be heading to the shops on 15th June?

I am at mid risk of complications due to Covid. Obese and BAME. So even with a mask I think I would be so anxious going to the shops. We also have a high death rate in our area. I'm not sure of the infection level.

Will you be returning to the shops? I worry about toilets and sanitary levels too.

How on earth is that usual hell on earth experience the trip to Clark’s for school shoes going to work?

woodhill · 11/06/2020 20:05

How can you pick your size if you can't touch the clothes?

Parker231 · 11/06/2020 20:06

No because I’ve always been an online shopper.

OldLace · 11/06/2020 20:06

No.
I only enjoy mooching around bookshops and charity shops anyway.
And I don't suppose many will be open for a good while.

Needtobepositive · 11/06/2020 20:08

Only to get school uniform. Other things can wait / be ordered online but really unsure if sizing for secondary school.

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/06/2020 20:09

No, not because I’m anxious at all about Covid, but because it’ll be a miserable experience. As long as social distancing is in place and masks are encouraged I’ll stick to online shopping. There’s nothing I’ve needed that I haven’t been able to get online over the past 3 months anyway.

TimeForLunch · 11/06/2020 20:10

I'm planning on going to Bluewater on Monday! This thread is encouraging as it sounds like many will not be so hopefully the queues won't be too bad. If it's hellish I'll just come straight back home but it's a novelty and I want something different to do.

LondonJax · 11/06/2020 20:15

No. If I can't try things on and have to queue I may as well sit in my own home, order, try on and return things.

I can't imagine the queuing for supermarket, then queue for shoes or clothes, then queuing....argh!

Food I can't live without. The rest can wait.

tempestterra · 11/06/2020 20:17

Yes. Can't wait to nose in a book shop, and then have a decent cup of coffee!

VicSynix · 11/06/2020 20:21

I will go to my local, independent bookshop, as I really want to support them and I've run out of books, so very happy to queue - if necessary - and splurge a bit. I want them to survive!

teenagetantrums · 11/06/2020 20:21

No...l really dislike shopping. I do most of mine online.
I would go if l really wanted something l suppose.
The only ships l like are charity shops so if the reopen will go to them

southeastdweller · 11/06/2020 20:21

Why would you think that? Waterstones and Oxfam have confirmed they're reopening on Monday.

OldLace · 11/06/2020 20:24

@southeastdweller

I am very rural. The only (mostly independent) charity shops where I am are staffed by volunteers who tend to be aged 65+. I want to support them, but not to put anyone at risk. My nearest bookshop is 25miles.

Lindy2 · 11/06/2020 20:27

No. I like browsing and going for lunch when I do a shopping trip. That's not how it's going to be anymore.

I've been mostly shopping online for food, and stuff like birthday presents and kids clothes. I'll carry on doing that.

Since lockdown I've ventured into a garden centre and Home Bargains once. It felt more like doing an SAS raid than a pleasant shopping experience.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/06/2020 20:39

No. I hate shopping anyway without having to queue to get in, and if I have to wear a mask then I'll avoid shops permanently!

rookiemere · 11/06/2020 20:40

No - because I'm in Scotland and our shops won't be open yet. I have however paid a few visits to garden centres - just because I can - and spent a bit of time mooching round an unexpectedly open M&S clothes section.

I'd like to support the shops particularly the smaller personally owned ones and the charity shops, but if you can't try things on its easier to buy online as at least you can then return through post office without having to go back there.

But I will be first in the queue for cinemas, restaurants, theatre, gym and anywhere I can get a plane too.Not pubs as I don't really like them.

emmavictoria89 · 11/06/2020 20:46

I won't be going for a week or two at least. I'm pregnant and want to look at prams and car seats and buy some baby bits, but I just don't trust people to socially distance. It's bad enough in the supermarket no one respects each other's personal space.

The only thing I really miss is going shopping with a friend or my sister or my mum, that would be lovely. But then I really just miss seeing them full stop!

I can't see social distancing working in stores. Not enough people care to respect it and next week will be worse than Christmas with crowds flocking to the shops as soon as they can open.

Etopp · 11/06/2020 20:46

Yes, and I am very glad if lots of people are staying at home as it will mean fewer stupid queues.

I am not in the slightest bit interested in Covid.

I have no money thanks to losing my job due to lockdown, but will enjoy having a browse.

namechangenumber2 · 11/06/2020 20:47

Nope. It's not that I'm scared, I just don't think it's sensible to do anything currently that doesn't need to be done. At some point I'll need to go in and get some new summer bits, but until I'm desperate I'll not bother.

I also can't be bothered to queue!

Zzzexhaustedzzz · 11/06/2020 20:50

I have realised that I don’t need shops as much as they need me. I don’t need them at all. I can order clothes etc online.
I will support local retailers though for food shopping.

formerbabe · 11/06/2020 20:52

Despite what everyone is saying on here, I predict huge numbers of people will go shopping on Monday. I think it will be crazy

Immigrantsong · 11/06/2020 20:53

Hard no. Online shopping all the way.

GarlicSoup · 11/06/2020 20:53

No definitely not.

covidmonkey · 11/06/2020 20:55

Yes straight away. I need passport photos. I might also go to Debenhams if there isn't a queue.

isabellerossignol · 11/06/2020 20:56

I'll go if I need something, wouldn't give it a second thought. But I won't be going out just to wander round the shops for entertainment.
