How many deaths do you know of?

I don’t know anyone personally who has died of this.
I know people who have tested positive. Both are nurses and both have had really mild symptoms.
I also think me and my partner had it close to lockdown starting. There are a couple of other people I know who ‘think’ they’ve had it too.
But I know no one who has died of it and don’t know anyone who knows anyone who has died of it!

Two of my colleagues died from it. One was 38 they other was 41. Both female. Neither of them had any medical history. Heartbreaking as they both had families. Husband of one tried to commit suicide. Sad.

My dad and my aunt

A close friend. He was 38, married with two DC under 5. No underlying health conditions. Was fine on the Wednesday morning, had a sore throat by the evening. Taken to hospital on the Friday and straight to intensive care 50 miles away because there were no beds locally. He was unconscious and on a ventilator for 6 weeks before he died. His wife and family didn't see him from the moment the ambulance took him away.

Don't know a single person who has died from it but know a few who who have it and recovered perfectly fine within a week or two.

I know someone who killed herself due to lockdown though.....

Bananaman123 · 07/06/2020 14:22

So sorry to all those who have lost people or dealing with it right now. My uncle passed a few weeks ago and in my job i have personally had to deal with hundres of bereavements over the last few months, a lot who were in care. Quite a few families where husband and wife passed within days of each other, which is normally rare, just awful

knittingaddict · 07/06/2020 18:10

My husband worked in the same office as someone who had it. He was in an induced coma on a ventilator and left hospital 8 weeks later. It was on the news when he finally left hospital. Very emotional.

This was quite early on before lockdown. The day they found out was the last day my husband went to the office. They were sent home and he hasn't been back since.

Someone else in the office had it too and was in hospital, although not as ill.

My sil knows someone who died from it too.

It's not made up.

knittingaddict · 07/06/2020 18:12

Also, none of them were elderly. They were all middle aged.

frenchfancy81 · 07/06/2020 18:13

2, friend's parents.

countrygirl99 · 07/06/2020 18:16

I don't even know anyone who has tested positive. And I live in one of the worst areas.

Whatnametomorrow10 · 07/06/2020 18:25

I personally don’t know anyone - but aware 2 friends have lost a Grandparent each. We lost a work associate but he had underlying health issues.

But I have also had 2 friends who have relatives have died due to cancer - both found at the beginning of lockdown and sadly one did get covid and it was decided not to treat due to very advance cancer found. One died 6 weeks after diagnosis- not sure if he would have had longer if he could fully access the treatment but who knows :(

My nana died with Covid last month. Her death certificate doesn't mention it though. She was in her early 90s and the document says fragility of age. She had two negative tests when first in hospital and then two positive tests after being in their 2.5 weeks, and just before she died.^^

Needtobepositive · 26/06/2020 19:19

I don’t know anyone who’s had it, let alone died from it but I’d be interested to know what underlying health conditions people who have died, had.

Pomegranatepompom · 26/06/2020 22:47

2 both @ work (nhs).
Plus several people very unwell requiring intubation.

milveycrohn · 26/06/2020 22:51

I don't know anyone who has had the virus. So obviously don't know anyone who has died of it.

Echobelly · 26/06/2020 22:54

The dad of someone we know from synagogue and a friend of my parents' has died.

An number of older members of our synagogue died at the peak - you could tell something was up because normally you might get 1 or 2 bereavement notices from the congregation per week (it's a very large one), but at the beginning-mid April there was a fortnight when it was 1 or 2 per day. One man my husband's age (mid 40s) was incredibly ill, in a coma for weeks and only returned home about a fortnight ago after falling ill in April.

Realitea · 26/06/2020 22:59

I know 6 people. I’m in Gloucestershire

gluteustothemaximus · 26/06/2020 22:59

Friend's husband has died. Guy at work his Aunt died. Guy at work his Dad died. Student at DS's school his grandad died.

Friend at work, brother had it really bad, but his boss had it worse and had just come out of intensive care.

Know through work quite a few who have had it (tested positive).

I guess the more people you know, it figures you'll know more people that have had it/died.

Greysparkles · 26/06/2020 23:02

Does it matter how many you know personally??

I know probably over 100. As I've transported their bodies to the morgue in the hospital I work at.

Just because you don't know of anyone, doesn't mean it isn't happening

wildone84 · 26/06/2020 23:06

Three deaths. 2 friends' uncles, and my dad's friend's fiancee who was only in her late 30s.

Bramblebear92 · 26/06/2020 23:12

I know ^^three people who've had it (confirmed, all survived). A friend/acquintance's father died of it, but I'm not sure I'd class myself as knowning him really (this person had a longstanding health condition and was at least in his 70s, not saying this makes it acceptable, but just for context. He'd been supported with care 15+ years).

CaraDune · 26/06/2020 23:12

A close friend lost both her parents in a single weekend. Also my next door neighbour has lost her BIL. Neighbour the other side will probably end up as one of the cases of collateral damage - secondary cancer in her lymph nodes, now about 3cm across. When she finally got to see her consultant in person, he said he'd have picked it up and operated when it was still tiny if it hadn't been for lockdown. Sad

womaninatightspot · 26/06/2020 23:22

I know people who suspected they had it at the beginning still really run down but no one who died. To be fair though death rate is less than 1 in a thousand. I'm sure I'm not alone in not knowing thousands of people. Comes in clusters so some will know of a few but lots of won't know any.

emmathedilemma · 26/06/2020 23:36

None and not an friend's of friends sort out acquaintances or relatives either. I know 3 people who think they've had it, but none hospitalised so didn't get tested. All had it quite early on.
