How many deaths do you know of?

I don’t know anyone personally who has died of this.
I know people who have tested positive. Both are nurses and both have had really mild symptoms.
I also think me and my partner had it close to lockdown starting. There are a couple of other people I know who ‘think’ they’ve had it too.
But I know no one who has died of it and don’t know anyone who knows anyone who has died of it!

I'm in Lancashire

I know of 3:
2 were very elderly men with serious health problems, who I think caught it, once already in hospital
1 man, who was 58, a very healthy police detective whose death came as a massive shock to our local community.

DominaShantotto · 06/06/2020 16:58

Two and only via a friend of a friend of a friend "did you hear what happened to Doris?"

Both incredibly early in the pandemic before lockdown.

Ilikefresias · 06/06/2020 16:59

Personally I know no one who has died from covid, I know a few people who have had it and recovered

DameHannahRelf · 06/06/2020 16:59

Non personally, no one I know does. I do know a women who tested positive though.

Megan2018 · 06/06/2020 17:01

I don’t know a single person in real life that has had it (confirmed or suspected) and no-one who has died.

BeltaneBride · 06/06/2020 17:02

None. In my early 50s Work in a school so know lots of people, have several hobbies, belong to a few larg-ish sports clubs, teenage children so their schools and friends' families, so again know lots of people as well as old friends on Facebook - nada.

BeltaneBride · 06/06/2020 17:03

And quite a few people I know, including me probably had it (many of the symptoms) in Feb/March. No-one hospitalised.

BeltaneBride · 06/06/2020 17:04

We are in London.
Where there are now about 20 cases a day in a city of 9 million.

Murinae · 06/06/2020 17:04

My MIL and have had notification that two people where I work have died of it but don’t know them personally

Four. My dads friend who had ms. My Indian neighbours cousin another Asian friends cousin and the brother of my friend who is Middle Eastern Jewish like me. There does definitely seem a higher incidence in BAME community.

NoraEphronsneck · 06/06/2020 17:09

I know of five people. 3 friends have lost a parent all in their late 70s/early 80s plus a lady who I used to attend fitness class with and a friend's best man, both of whom were early 50s.

Ipadipod · 06/06/2020 17:10

2 friends have died and one more has just tested positive.

CuppaZa · 06/06/2020 17:11
 1. One was in a care home and another went to hospital for something else and caught Covid19. Died relatively soon after
LAlady · 06/06/2020 17:13

Two - a work colleague and girl I went to school with. One 50, one 52. No underlying issues with work colleague as far as we are aware.

okiedokieme · 06/06/2020 17:14

I know of 4 but I work with old people to put it bluntly. All were likely to die in the next few months to put it into context. I know one younger person (a nurse) who got really sick on cpap, otherwise my brother was never hospitalised but was very unwell, but I was very mild, if it hadn't been for the publicity of lack of smell I wouldn't have realised

Khione · 06/06/2020 17:37
@Khione interesting point... my family seems disproportionately affected by cancer in that case.

A close relative died from it in their early 20s, My grandmother, me, my mum, my DH have all had cancer, all different kinds and in two cases extremely rare kinds.

I had always heard the stat that 1 in 2 people will have cancer and gone by that yardstick.
I think it is right that one in two get cancer of some sort but many are now curable - or at least long term remission.

I think my family has for some reason a far lower incidence of cancer than most. No idea why. And I do think some families are disproportionately affected.

But 170,000 deaths a year - every year in the UK - as opposed to 40,000 CV deaths. I suspect most people don't personally know too many people a year dying from cancer (unless in work capacity).

Welcome22 · 06/06/2020 17:46

I've lost three friends in two months from cov 19. If you don't know anyone close to you who's died you're very lucky, it's still happening and two of my friends didn't have health issues either. They were all in their 40s and we're all devestated. They were all from different areas of the UK

fessmess · 06/06/2020 17:55

3 from the virus and 2 suicides through being isolated.

Petal247 · 06/06/2020 17:56

My brothers best friend lives in Liverpool and she died over the wkd of cov 19. They were not the only ones admitted with it belive me it's everywhere. Her husband had it to. No health conditions.

Petal247 · 06/06/2020 17:59

You're very lucky and I hope it stays that way for you. My husband and I work in high risk jobs and know of 13 people between who have caught it. 3 of our friends have died to, two with it and one from it.

ifonly4 · 06/06/2020 18:28

One death. Three family members had symptoms but not tested.

One neighbour admitted to hospital eight weeks ago, discharged but struggling

Four work colleagues, three March, one May really ill with it

iamapixie · 06/06/2020 18:38

No one. I know a number who have had it mildly (tested as hcps).
A lot of people may feel they "know" someone who has died, either from it or with it, due to social media, but in terms of genuinely "knowing" someone who has died, it's pretty unlikely, as c40,000 deaths amounts to c0.06% of the 66,000,000 population.

FizzAfterSix · 06/06/2020 18:57

An 80 year old friend had it mildly but recovered quickly.
I'm more concerned about the side effects from lockdown - suspected cancer cases not being diagnosed, domestic violence, job losses etc.

TheCatsHouse · 06/06/2020 19:07

My husband's colleague has died. 50 and no prexisting conditions.

Also one of my colleagues has lost her Mum to this
