How many deaths do you know of?

I don’t know anyone personally who has died of this.
I know people who have tested positive. Both are nurses and both have had really mild symptoms.
I also think me and my partner had it close to lockdown starting. There are a couple of other people I know who ‘think’ they’ve had it too.
But I know no one who has died of it and don’t know anyone who knows anyone who has died of it!

Two in our families, one in a friend's.

User1055 · 06/06/2020 19:12

Yes, someone close and someone I know vaguely.

CMOTDibbler · 06/06/2020 19:18

My mum is one of the very many 'excess' deaths - COVID didn't go on her death certificate, but the day after she died her swab came back positive. No one can say if what presented as a massive downturn in her dementia causing her to stop eating and drinking was a direct result, but she was infected in the care home, and was only swabbed as she had a mild temperature one day.

ragged · 06/06/2020 19:21

I don't know any confirmed cases or (obvs) any deaths.
One person I slightly know self-isolated back in March bc she had compatible symptoms.

I know 2 people who know confirmed cases who died; the deceased were both elderly afaik.

I'm not surprised, either. I suppose I know... 2? people who have had cancer diagnoses in the last year. Nobody who had a heart attack or a T2DM diagnosis.

TheGinGenie · 06/06/2020 19:23

A relative of mine died right before lockdown and 3 people at work have had parents die of it (there's about 100 of us). I'm in HR so I guess I'd hear about all the examples of relatives whereas you might not in another role unless you knew the colleague

twinnywinny14 · 06/06/2020 19:28

I know 2 who tested positive for it, one was in hospital for a few days, and then sent home. She is still struggling now with breathing and energy etc. One other I know off was put into an induced coma a week after going in to hospital and is still in the coma nearly 7wks later

blueangel1 · 06/06/2020 20:00

I'm in the West Midlands. I know a work colleague who has died and an ex-colleagues mother. Also at least 6 people reported on my local Facebook group. However, there have been a lot of cases round here.

ShinyFootball · 06/06/2020 20:02

DH has had 3 people he knows from work die, he's TFL and they have been hit pretty hard.

I don't know anyone who has died.

Kazzyhoward · 06/06/2020 20:09

There are 67 million people in the UK, 40,000 have died. That’s 0.06% of the population.

It's only 40k BECAUSE of the restrictions and lockdown. It would probably be 4 million and rising fast if we'd not locked-down. That's what happens with exponential growth.

vinoandbrie · 06/06/2020 20:10

I know of no deaths from coronavirus.

ShinyFootball · 06/06/2020 20:14

Some occupations and groups are more affected then others though.

SRK16 · 06/06/2020 20:15

London based. Two deaths; one mid 30’s no ‘underlying’ health issues, one in sixties.
I know many people who seem to have had it, and a couple wth confirmed tests.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 06/06/2020 20:21

Statistically, the majority of the population won't know anyone who has died - because it's only 1 in 2000 people who have died, and the majority of these deaths have sadly been concentrated among certain groups - the elderly and especially care home residents, health care workers, socio-economically disadvantaged areas and BAME groups. Some people who live or work in these areas would be unfortunately likely to know proportiately more, and the the majority of the country less, quite likely 1 in 4000 or 5000.

Unless of course you look at the commenters on many MN thread, almost all of whom seem to have known at least one victim personally Hmm

Hedgehog44 · 06/06/2020 20:42

One positive test with no symptoms, no deaths. About seven thousand people who have sniffed once and reckon they have had it Grin

Pipandmum · 06/06/2020 20:46

None. It's not surprising, there are a lot of people living in this country and only a very small percentage has sadly died from this virus.

ragged · 06/06/2020 20:50

On this type of thread, almost no one knows mild cases. Mild cases are what... 80% of the symptomatic? That's weird.

CathyandHeathcliff · 06/06/2020 21:35

@ragged I know one mild case.

CathyandHeathcliff · 06/06/2020 21:36

@ragged my friend who is an NHS nurse tested positive. Her symptoms were a headache and loss of smell.

Yellredder · 06/06/2020 21:36

I know of three. All elderly, two with dementia and in care homes.

Crunchymum · 06/06/2020 21:57

1 anecdotally (friends partners aunt and not in UK!)

1 personally. Elderly relative who had a negative test upon release from hospital, died a few days later but had CV19 as cause of death on death certificate Shock

caringcarer · 06/06/2020 22:22

I don't even know a person in real life who has had it. I know Boris and some of the cabinet had it. None of DH or I family or friends or colleagues have had it.

LockdownLucie · 06/06/2020 22:37

I know two people who have died of it within. within the space of less than a week. Both males both elderly both had dementia one being my father and the other being a neighbours husband.

LockdownLucie · 06/06/2020 22:38

I know more than half a dozen who have had it excluding the two who have died.

Mrskeats · 06/06/2020 22:40

I know 2 people who have died

Deblou43 · 06/06/2020 23:30

@kazzyhoward the pandemic in 58 killed 80'000 without a lock down 4 million I don't think would have happened
