What planet is Johnson on?

If he thinks that most people are sticking to the guidelines? Does he not watch the news? Does he not go outside? None of my neighbours have stuck to the guidelines, nor have my family, my mum's neighbours, mum's friends. My neighbours have told me how busy it is in our small town and on the leisure paths and canal tow paths. I live on a street of less than 12 houses and the neighbours have to pass my house on their way in and out before anyone says about curtain twitching. I do gaze out a lot though as it beats looking at the walls all day.
Is he oblivious to the beaches, the beauty spots, the parties, the fines issued by police?

Technically I can now go out (shielded) but it's not safe for me to do so as there's no social distancing anywhere that I could go for a walk. I can't drive so can't go anywhere it might be quieter.

I'm just watching PMQ and I'm a little Confused at Johnson's claims.

I understand there's debate on the restrictions and I don't want to get into that but to completely ignore the breaching of them and pretend they aren't happening baffles me.

Fuck knows, but let's just hope he returns to it soon.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 12:24

Where I am, the people not sticking to the rules are a definite minority.

Lottapianos · 03/06/2020 12:25

He constructs his own reality, like a true narcissist. He says whatever benefits him the most in any given situation. Hes a total joke and has ZERO credibility

Scottishgirl85 · 03/06/2020 12:27

Where I am, people are sticking to the rules!

Aposterhasnoname · 03/06/2020 12:27

Because the papers, the news and your neighbours only talk about the ones breaking lock down. The pictures in the paper are angled to make it look far worse that it really is, if you see the same shot from another angle the vast majority are 2m apart in many cases.

In my town, which is a local beauty spot, the vast majority are following guidelines and. As with much of the country, the number of cases are dropping.

Redolent · 03/06/2020 12:33

He looks panicked, wild-eyed, blustering with faux-rage. A picture of incompetence and bloated privilege.

bumblingbovine49 · 03/06/2020 12:34

I loathe Johnson but to say no one is sticking to the rules because the people you know and those around you aren't isn't really accurate . The government will estimate social distance compliance based on numbers of people out, footfall in shops and using transport etc compared to usual

If you go out for a walk, you will undoubtably pass other people , even maybe a bit closer than 2 m away as they pass but you really are VERY unlikely to catch Covid from this sort of passing non-interaction. Going to each other's houses is different and though I am sure a sizeable minority are doing this, I don't think everyone is yet at all

SistemaAddict · 03/06/2020 12:40

I didn't say that no one was sticking to the guidelines. Many are. Many aren't. I don't live somewhere where it is possible for me to safely walk but my point is that he is ignoring all the reports of people breaking guidelines.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 12:45

I doubt he is ignoring them. People ignoring the guidelines will have been factored in to the modelling (they have behavioural scientists involved), but he can’t say ‘yes we accept some people aren’t doing it’ because that will encourage more people to ignore guidelines.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 03/06/2020 12:45

@Aposterhasnoname - "The pictures in the paper are angled to make it look far worse that it really is, if you see the same shot from another angle the vast majority are 2m apart in many cases."

Believe that if it gives you comfort. It's been mobbed here where I live (coast just north of Liverpool) for days on end. People travelling from all over (Birmingham/Wigan/Manchester as well as the city). Thank god for a bit of rain. People are not social distancing, it's impossible.

CendrillonSings · 03/06/2020 12:47

Bercows

Lol - of course your personal anecdata trumps the constant flow of scientific data on the effectiveness of the lockdown available to SAGE and thus to the Prime Minister! Grin

ITonyah · 03/06/2020 12:49

Everyone is sticking to rules near me. It's all very civilised.

B1rdbra1n · 03/06/2020 12:50

I can't speak for other areas but most people are complying round my way

MarshaBradyo · 03/06/2020 12:52

People still sticking to them here.

Some won’t but still majority here.

Hadenoughfornow · 03/06/2020 12:54

I don't really know anyone who's not sticking to guidelines.

I must mix in different circles..........

MadameMarie · 03/06/2020 12:56

People were sticking to the rules then Johnson decided to allow people to travel all over England with no restrictions and unlimited exercise/time outside every day. This coincides with a heatwave so of course outside is really busy.

Much of it is weather related. People flock to the parks and beaches when the sun is out and bbq's. When the sun is in people stay in.

Hingeandbracket · 03/06/2020 13:03

Dunno but I wish the cunt would fuck off back there

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 03/06/2020 13:05

Judging by PMQs, he's living in a world where what Kier Starmer says has more influence than what he does as PM.

TheOrigBrave · 03/06/2020 13:07

People are sticking to them in my village and in both towns I visit.

Perhaps you live around a bunch of anarchists.

Katinski · 03/06/2020 13:08

So, if 'everyone' is sticking to the rules, how come we have the highest rate of CV in Europe?Confused

feelingverylazytoday · 03/06/2020 13:10

People are still sticking to the rules where I live as well.
There are ways of measuring the level of compliance, instead of just relying on stories of what Mumsnet users friends and neighbours are doing, including busy beaches and other areas. They've also identified 'hotspots' for transmission of the virus, and it isn't people outside in the open air. If it really was an issue then these places could easily be closed off again.

Notejode · 03/06/2020 13:12

Everybody I know is sticking to the rules. Also, I do not know anybody who have had the virus or died from Covid 19.

Well, it still goes back to them being asleep at the wheel and being too slow to lockdown.

Then the fact that our lockdown was far less strict to begin with than most countries and then relaxed a lot more in time for bank holiday heatwaves.

The fact remains though a lot of people have either given up with lockdown since the Cummings fiasco, or think it's party time when the sun comes out.

What planet is Johnson on?

I don't know, I just wish he wasn't in our government.

No one has said everyone is keeping to the rules
