What planet is Johnson on?

If he thinks that most people are sticking to the guidelines? Does he not watch the news? Does he not go outside? None of my neighbours have stuck to the guidelines, nor have my family, my mum's neighbours, mum's friends. My neighbours have told me how busy it is in our small town and on the leisure paths and canal tow paths. I live on a street of less than 12 houses and the neighbours have to pass my house on their way in and out before anyone says about curtain twitching. I do gaze out a lot though as it beats looking at the walls all day.
Is he oblivious to the beaches, the beauty spots, the parties, the fines issued by police?

Technically I can now go out (shielded) but it's not safe for me to do so as there's no social distancing anywhere that I could go for a walk. I can't drive so can't go anywhere it might be quieter.

I'm just watching PMQ and I'm a little Confused at Johnson's claims.

I understand there's debate on the restrictions and I don't want to get into that but to completely ignore the breaching of them and pretend they aren't happening baffles me.

The rules are quite lax? I can’t work, my children can’t go to school or play with their friends, or go to a playground, I can’t go to restaurants, cafes, theatres, the cinema or do my hobby, it is illegal to have visitors to my house... how is that ‘lax’?!

I think if you live in a seaside town (I do) then you probably have a different view to other places. I can stay on the edge of town where i live and generally it is pretty good (apart from everyone has been seeing grandchildren for weeks and the VE party on nextdoors drive wasn't great) but if I go a couple of miles into town and on the main beach it is pretty obvious that alot of people aren't keeping a distance. I'm expecting the rate in the south west to go up, hope I'm wrong.

iwantmysay · 03/06/2020 15:23

In terms of driving down our horrendous community infection rates, they are very lax and not enforced.

Alsohuman · 03/06/2020 15:33

Aww I see Johnson's fan club have turned up to defend him

That’s bollocks. Not a single person has defended him. Nor have any of the usual suspects - apart from Xenia - turned up. All that’s happened is that people have reported what they’re seeing where they live. Just like you, OP.

And no I don't live in anywhere like a slum hmmIt's a pretty, semi-rural middle class small town. It's just that with lots of people being furloughed or wfh there's a lot more foot traffic than normal. I used to walk miles and rarely see anyone but now it's totally different.

Sorry, there is simply no way then that you cannot walk without socially distancing, the population density is simply too low to make that reasonable, sometimes you or the people you meet might need to walk in the road, or step into a driveway whilst people pass. You've clearly got a mistaken judgement of how far you need to be away from people and that is clouding your viewpoint of what "everyone" is doing.

TheGreatWave · 03/06/2020 16:32

Maybe masses of people are, but not that I've seen. A few ranty FB posts, but those people are always ranty anyway.

A few kids maybe not, but meh, they were having fun and not causing trouble.

iwantmysay · 03/06/2020 22:23

Well, with community based 56,000 new infections each and every week, then its clear people are not socially distancing.

and despite people saying the R rate is high because of care home and hospital infections, the reality is these infections are not coming down, which indicates the community R rate is perhaps higher than they are admiting too.

Hadenoughfornow · 03/06/2020 22:38

I used to walk miles and rarely see anyone but now it's totally different.

You've said you have been shielding. And you can't go out because it's too busy.

But if that's the case how do you know?

I rememeber at the height of lockdown, a local FB group were moaning how the motorway was so busy that day and they could really hear it. I looked at the cameras. You've guessed it- a couple of trucks on the road and that was it.

I often seen comments locally, and what people are moaning about tends not to be the actual reality. And thankfully more and more people are questioning it.

Hadenoughfornow · 03/06/2020 22:40

And no I am not a usual suspect or fan of Johnson. He's handled it as well as i expected him too..............

FurForksSake · 03/06/2020 23:21

One reason they think it isn't coning down is that it is still circulating in care homes and then being seeded into society.

We seem to have lots of spare testing capacity so maybe we should be testing all front line staff and looking harder for asymptomstic cases.

pontypridd · 03/06/2020 23:46

Is it true that today in PM Questions he had an ear piece in and was being fed answers?

B1rdbra1n · 03/06/2020 23:50

Did he, is that normal?
if he does it then other people can do it too!

1forsorrow · 04/06/2020 14:51

@pontypridd Sounds like cheating. Wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure someone could disrupt the signal.............

1forsorrow · 04/06/2020 14:54

Did anyone see the care homes report on Newsnight last night. Heartbreaking stuff.

pigsDOfly · 04/06/2020 14:57

The majority are sticking to it where i live.

My DD lives in a very popular seaside town and over the weekend it really was absolutely bursting at the seams.

She doesn't go to the beach because keeping any sort of distance from other people is impossible, as it always is during warm weather, and it seems like the pandemic has made no difference to that.
