Why aren't there angry posts about Tim Matthews admitting he made up Dominic Cummings sighting?

Tim Matthews has admitted he made up a sighting of Dominic Cummings at Barnard Castle for a joke. It wasn't a very funny joke. I haven't heard anyone laughing about and why has it taken until now to admit it was a lie?

OP posts:
FliesandPies · 01/06/2020 14:43

You may say that doesn't alter the picture but I know what I would do with a sick child and its exactly what Dominic did.

The new 'evidence' doesn't alter the picture because it is Cummings own account that has caused the fury. Also, as has been pointed out, the child wasn't sick at the time of the journey to Durham.

Five day hearing set for December..why so long??

Mumratheevergiving · 01/06/2020 16:53

Well isn't he just the man of the moment! The Government must be delighted by his antics.

FliesandPies - they need to allow him plenty of time to come up with some more corkers along the lines of the eyesight test?

Hopefully the inquiry about his conduct during the pandemic will be scheduled before then. Running the country and all this on top, no wonder he works 16hour days!

FliesandPies · 01/06/2020 16:56

If it takes 6 months for a tribunal hearing it's going to be much longer for any enquiry Mumra, remember they haven't even published that Russia doc yet so i'm sure they can find excuses to delay an enquiry til the end of (their) time.

JamieLeeCurtains · 01/06/2020 16:57

How about, I took Ms Khan's personal phone off her to test my eyesight?

FliesandPies · 01/06/2020 16:59

From that Guardian article -
At the time of Khan’s dismissal last September, the terms of employment for special advisers made it clear that it was only the prime minister who had the power to sack them. This was then changed after Khan left, giving Cummings ultimate “responsibility for disciplinary matters”.

FliesandPies · 01/06/2020 17:00

So he would have to sack himself??

Alsohuman · 01/06/2020 17:52

@FliesandPies

So he would have to sack himself??
I think Johnson might allow himself to do that.
merrymouse · 01/06/2020 18:55

Can't help thinking that a competent Machiavellian genius would have managed to remove a junior member of staff without losing a Chancellor and going through a tribunal.

PerkingFaintly · 02/06/2020 13:43

Dunno, Curious, would you say Shapps' comment was a lie? Yes, in hindsight it was one of those back to the wal fingers crossed, shou;dn't have said it, stupid fucker lies!

(And did you believe it?) No!

Wow. That's interesting.

You saw Shapps say that Cummings "didn’t then move around from there” when he got to the Cummings farm – and your reaction was that Shapps was lying?

So your immediate thought was that Dominic Cummings would indeed have moved around, while up north, and broken the rules even further?

That's quite the condemnation of Cummings' character.

BTW I did believe Shapps' when he spoke. Why wouldn't I? It wouldn't have occurred to me that Cummings was so entitled that it was a given he would waltz around the countryside in flagrant disregard of the rules he helped set for the rest of us.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/06/2020 14:12

Yeah! That's what I said!

Enjoy!

PerkingFaintly · 02/06/2020 19:00

So your question above was: whether people felt anything about having believed the lies about Cummings.

Yes, I do feel something about having believed Shapps' lie (or untruth) about Cummings.

I feel it's all part of a piece with the contempt they've shown us, the public.

I feel I won't believe a word any of Johnson's ministers say, when it comes to personal advantage for one of their little gang of elite, and I won't be giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Either Shapps was knowingly lying; or he hadn't bothered to ask Cummings what he'd been up to; or Cummings refused to answer a minister of the Crown, even when that minister was putting himself on the line for Cummings.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 11:47

Why are you answering about another minister?

What about those by "us, the public" ?

Which is the question I actually asked!

Mrhodgeymaheg · 03/06/2020 13:45

He admitted that he did it. People aren't angry because DC did something wrong and someone else doing something wrong doesn't change that.

Nice try.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 13:50

Ah! You too may be assuming I am a DC apologist.

Never mind. You've illustrated the point I was trying to make!

FliesandPies · 03/06/2020 14:49

Ah! You too may be assuming I am a DC apologist.
Seems a very logical conclusion

Never mind. You've illustrated the point I was trying to make!
Stuff people say when they can't make their point properly..

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 14:52

Yeah! And that ^^ is a result of you making assumptions and not reading all I have written on this thread.

FliesandPies · 03/06/2020 14:58

More stuff people say instead of making a point..

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 15:00

Did your record get stuck?

Waspnest · 03/06/2020 15:00

Stuff people say when they can't make their point properly..

I don't think that's fair. I think DC clearly broke lockdown and should have been sacked for the damage he has done and BJ is a fool to support him. I think Tim Matthews is a fucking twat and has clearly (for god knows what reasons) contributed to the massive fake news problem in the world. ('Just a joke' my arse.) Strangely I manage to hold both views at the same time.

FliesandPies · 03/06/2020 15:13

I think DC clearly broke lockdown and should have been sacked for the damage he has done and BJ is a fool to support him. I think Tim Matthews is a fucking twat

That is perfectly clear point, unlike Samphire's distractions

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 15:23

Grin You really should stop digging.

You have misunderstood me. That's all!

Waspnest · 03/06/2020 15:37

What I take from Samphire's posts (I may be wrong) is that yes DC did break the rules but why did Tim Matthews come up with this lie fake story? (Discounting the puerile joke reason given) was he pure and simple trying to make DC look even worse or was he (conspiracy alert) trying to make it look like some people are so desperate to get rid of DC that it is all a witch hunt hoping to inspire other members of the public to actually start feeling sorry for DC?

That's what fake news does, it muddies the waters.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2020 15:49

You are right. I have been increasingly irritated by disinformation, as well as all the usual misinformation.
