Why aren't there angry posts about Tim Matthews admitting he made up Dominic Cummings sighting?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8372911/Boris-puts-Dominic-Cummings-chance-one-witness-admits-sighting-aide.html

Tim Matthews has admitted he made up a sighting of Dominic Cummings at Barnard Castle for a joke. It wasn't a very funny joke. I haven't heard anyone laughing about and why has it taken until now to admit it was a lie?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2020 09:33

A baroness and an ex sec if state deliberately setting out to undermine the sitting PM is not important?

Being led by the nose by media hype is a trait anyone would accept?

Accepting one set of self serving lies whilst decrying another is fine?

Nope! At the very least acknowledge your own bias!

vdbfamily · 31/05/2020 09:34

Mockers...even that story has been distorted. He did indeed blog about the danger of a global pandemic last March and he linked to an article that mentioned Cironavirus specifically. This year, he copied the quote from the linked article directly onto his blog. So he was talking about it last year but yes, did add something this year. People need to fact check.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/05/2020 09:34

The guy who lied about Cummings REVISTING Durham should be charged with wasting police time...see how funny he finds it then

In answer to your garbled title, I’d imagine its cos

1 its fucking early!!

  1. Cummings is rule maker and advisor

3 loads of posts have been quite reasonable and haven’t said what curious just pointed out

4 lots of people thought the 2nd Durham trip didn’t make sense

5 people make stupid Unproven madeup comments On here all the time

Walkaround · 31/05/2020 09:36

Mockers - yes, his own obvious attempts at media manipulation have also done for him. I have little sympathy for a manipulative, ruthless man complaining about crack handed attempts by others to manipulate back. The truth is enough, there is absolutely no need for embellishment.

TheLastSaola · 31/05/2020 09:36

It's irrelevant OP because of Brexit.

This was and is only about Brexit.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2020 09:36

@Earnsomething it didn't. You just haven't grasped what actually was claimed.

Much like the people who sti believe the lie about his sister (I'd forgotten that one).

It's a case of refusing to believe the outer fringes or deception. Else you become a conspiracy theorist by accident!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/05/2020 09:37

Id honestly repost On a new thread Noteverything

You’re not going to get any debate if youve got the basic argument wrong, loads of people just reply to the OP

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 09:37

"If it was made up, how did it turn out to be correct"
It wasnt correct. It was a second trip he was making up, there was no second trip, therefore it was a made up lie. It gave the picture that hed been up and down to Durham a few times, and he hadnt.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 31/05/2020 09:37

@CuriousaboutSamphire
The voice of reason.

The Guardian newspaper made quite a lot of this further 'sighting' and many posters have quoted that DC went back to Durham on 2 more occasions, despite DC having denied it. Yet the sighting turns out to have been totally false and Tim Matthews has admitted he made it up as a joke.

I am inclined to believe DC's version of events.

I hope The Guardian will print an apology for this error and give it the same prominence for the same duration they printed it originally.

OP posts:
Walkaround · 31/05/2020 09:39

vdbfamily - I think the Rose Garden statement is enough to judge him by, and to conclude he should resign.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 31/05/2020 09:39

He did indeed blog about the danger of a global pandemic last March and he linked to an article that mentioned Cironavirus specifically.

He wrote about the risk of leaks from labs and the need to test their security with "Red Team" fake 'terrorists' attempting to break and enter and "Honey-Traps."

CherryPavlova · 31/05/2020 09:42

Maybe the level of dishonesty at every turn makes it more likely the DM isn’t being strictly accurate?
Cummings doesn’t have planning permission for his second home. Cummings doesn’t pay council tax on his second home.
His father has deliberately had his estate rated at band D for council tax rather than pay fairly for a quite valuable few properties.

Hancock and others profiting from racing, so racing restarts.
Dyson still profiting from a pipe dream.
Johnson also broke the rules numerous times.
Dido Harding’s appointment beggars belief.

Oakmaiden · 31/05/2020 09:43

Gosh, that is a confusingly written article. One would almost suspect it is deliberate. Your OP is also VERY inaccurate.

But reading it closely - the person who saw him at Barnard Castle was not lying, did see him there and DC has admitted to this. The paper complains that this person broke rules by collecting his daughter from university. Two responses to that - firstly I believe that was permitted (daughter was effectively moving house) and secondly he is a private citizen and his actions are of no concern to the public.

A second person - Tim Matthews - claimed to have seen DC in Durham on the 19th. This was a lie, and although the accusation was repeated by papers not much was made of it by most people as there was little evidence.

vdbfamily · 31/05/2020 09:44

what has most enraged me is the press and social media trying to make out he went on a jolly to see his parents for his mum's birthday. I cannot believe the lack of compassion. You are public enemy number one with a job that is 24/7. Your boss has just tested positive for Covid19 and you have been in continual close contact with him. The press are camped on your doorstep and your family are getting deaththteats. You have a special needs 4 year old and your wife has just rung in a panic to say she feels unwell. When people say it should not be one rule for us and one for them I agree, what it should be is that everyone does the best they can within the law/ current advice and individual circumstance. That is what he did. The press have reported irresponsibly and it is that and social media coverage that has caused the public to ignore advice. Absolutely nothing DC did, endangered anyone else, but if you report he is off to see his mum for her birthday then yes, people will do the same.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 31/05/2020 09:46

@Kittenlicker

"There’s one now."
Mine isn't an angry post. I'm just questioning why, there were lots of angry posts about DC's supposed 2nd visit to Durham, which he denied, yet when it is admitted the source made it up, posters aren't angry at that person.

I wonder how posters would feel if stories in the newspapers about them were partly true and partly false.

OP posts:
june2007 · 31/05/2020 09:48

The point is it doesn,t take away from Cummings wrong doing, The difference is Cummings position means he should be setting an example. The idiots who made upthe lies about Cummings or who were breaking rules themselves are not part of the government trying to impose the rules.

LangClegsInSpace · 31/05/2020 09:48

I haven't read any of the press stories about Cummings' trip to Durham and Barnard Castle.

I watched his press briefing and purely on the basis of what he himself said, he should be sacked.

Hoppinggreen · 31/05/2020 09:50

Even if we remove any accusations that DC himself doesn’t admit to himself are true he’s has behaved very badly and should have been sacked

Kittenlicker · 31/05/2020 09:51

@NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite most of the story is true and the fact he broke the law (his law). I don’t really see why everyone is debating it. He needs to resign.

JudyCoolibar · 31/05/2020 09:53

Were Cummings’ wife and little boy in his London house while the mob surrounded it?

No, because it didn't happen. Typically emotive language. It would be physically impossible to surround it.

Kittenlicker · 31/05/2020 09:53

DC also Lied. About many things. There a lot of lies.

Kittenlicker · 31/05/2020 09:54

*There’s

JudyCoolibar · 31/05/2020 09:55

His father has deliberately had his estate rated at band D for council tax rather than pay fairly for a quite valuable few properties.

And, according to reports today, didn't even have planning permission.

Growingboys · 31/05/2020 09:55

What rubbish @HeddaGarbled

What the Mail has said would be defamatory if untrue. I don't see the chemistry teacher saying he's going to sue.

Agree OP, but the left wing spend so much time on raging on social media while those on the right tend to get on and do things. It's appalling this man made it up, and had he made it up to discredit someone on the left, the left would be RAGING!

Livelovebehappy · 31/05/2020 09:57

Funny that early posts had posters denying they had been (in part) manipulated. But two people have been reported in the press today as lying and in fact breaking the rules themselves when putting forward their own accusations. Proves absolutely that we are manipulated via our friends in the media. Scarey how people can lie through their teeth to meet their own agendas, and their stories are printed with no questions asked.
